Increased Aliasing since last Patch
BTTW-DratsaB replied to BTTW-DratsaB's topic in Bugs and Problems
Sorry, forgot to mention my card, I use a gtx295. I don't really want to solve it by using some thing like Super Sampling (as you say this will cripple performance), thanks for the suggestion though. It may be worth trying temporarily to see what difference it makes. I'm wondering what was changed in the patch. I recall a setting in a racing sim called Live For Speed that was called MipMap Bias. When it was set toward a more extreme setting it would cause the kind of effect I'm seeing. If that makes any sense. I'm not really sure what mip map bias does, it seems like anisotropic filtering but some what different. -
I think I saw some mention of this problem in a thread after the .6 patch, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Basically, I feel I am seeing more shimmering or aliasing on the edges of objects etc since the last patch. I haven't change my settings I normally use. These are: AAx2 - set in game and AFx16 set through the driver. I would take some screen shots to illustrate, but I don't think that would help as firstly I cant take any screen shots of how it use to look and secondly, it is most noticeable when the view is in motion. I can see it quite well, for example on the edges of the UFC and HUD frame. Also, an increased Moire effect on MFCDs, especially the TAD (those range circles really show up the Moire effect more than they used to I'm convinced) It is visible every where, its almost like I am on 1xAA now or some thing. Hard to explain Anyone else have any similar results or ideas on this?

Very nice pics, congrats. There is something almost surreal about the first two. Maybe just cause I'm so used to seeing A10 in game.

freakin' awesome news! This will add a lot to the immersion factor. I too wonder about what the performance impact will be. If its like I hope it is, it will just mean my SLI setup will get to do some more work.

Good thread, thanks. Lots of the questions that where buzzing around my head while reading the news articles are in here.

SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
BTTW-DratsaB replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You would do that in the DCS GUI. "HOTAS Mic Switch Aft", "HOTAS Mic Switch Forward" etc. -
No, it's not up to date Yes it is horrible low res (90's Vid rip so what can you do) Yes, the music may make your hair bigger:punk: But...it is old school 80s documentary! So kick back and enjoy the funky tunes :music_walkman: and cool footage. :gun_smilie: Rockets & Missiles Parts 1 - 10: http://www.youtube.com/user/icdsinc#p/u/9/PmittGQljos Modern Missiles Part 1 - 8 http://www.youtube.com/user/ballisticafatallica#p/u/27/t-akbhcsjmg ^ The guy who has the above channel also has two other documentaries I must check out that look good. Eagles in the Sky and Fly Low, Hit hard. I don't know about you guys, but I much prefer this way of presenting these kind of documentaries than the useless, ever repetitive, assuming your audience has the brain capacity of a 5 year old, type documentaries like Future Weapons. Synths > Mac :D

Nice Stereo Pics Cheers Swift, I have Nvidia 3D vision so I just change the extension on those double pics to .jps and they work perfect in my 3D pic viewer. They look great!

What headset you guys use ?
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Succellus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have no experience with those particular Headsets. I use these myself (work fine with TrackClipPro) They are very comfortable, the mic is detachable, build quality is good, slightly more expensive than similar headphones but they feel like it. The sound quality is superb. Importantly, I play games/sims with lots of noise that usually kill headsets. Like racing sims with constant, loud engine sounds. Also (obviously) flight sims too, so far I have yet to hear any disortion or speaker damage at loud or low frequency sounds. Just ignore the horrendous 1337 gamer marketing, these are seriously good mid range headphones. -
SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
BTTW-DratsaB replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for update Thanks jack, some nice additions there, like NVG on mouse wheel. I kept meaning to check for free keys to reassign the speed brake. Are keys B and N free and unassigned? One thing I noticed looking at your diagram that I cant believe I never realised before is that "Function", "Start/Stop" and "Reset" are usable buttons! :doh:I have had this stick for about 5 years :megalol: Though, they don't seem to appear in the Profiler as assignable buttons (this is my excuse for never noticing I could use them :P) an idea about that? I know it doesn't matter for A10, but it would be nice for other games that I exclusively use profiling for. Anyway, thanks again for making the best X52 profile for DCSA10 even better. This should be included with the sim imo. -
Saw this before when it was Youtube, Best aviation documentary series I have ever seen. Wish I could watch them all again for the first time :) Loved the one about Caspian Sea Monster! :holloween:

Better Rain Effect Can we please steal the Rain effect that Rise of Flight has? :) It's time we saw water droplets streaking across our canopy! The inclusion of this effect in RoF had zero impact on performance too. The current precipitation effects in DCS really arnt doing it for me any more, especially after a session of RoF. :)

Did my first flight with the new patch. I wasn't really expecting much difference, but I am loving the new sound adjustments. The canopy sounds are really cool. The Gun sounds as though it has been tweaked too, it seem a bit less harsh on the high end. Also, the external view sound of the GAU is mental, nearly tore my headphones a "new one". Engines and APU sound tweaked too. Thanks again.

I don't know why it only just dawned on me (I have played BS after all!) But it was only the other day, when I went to see where my old Lockon A10 hunting ground around Sevastopol and Simperofol was that I realised that a large portion of the LockOn map is missing, I of course appreciate that we have a lot more map now then we did then. http://lockon.co.uk/modern_air_combat/?PAGEN_2=2#573 It does seem a shame that we can't use that old Crimean section of the map in the DCS universe. I did find this old thread discussing the reasons behind its exclusion: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33917&highlight=lockon+terrain Now we have 64bit is it possible to add this to the current map? Would it not be worth even making a second map out it if it is too big to combine the two? I know we are getting Nevada, but the more terrain's the better. That's my opinion anyway. Perhaps people would even pay some money to have it included if it meant a lot of work to bring it up to DCS standard? PS. I was in the process of writing this before JB made his thread :P , must be some thing n the air.

Thank you Thanks to ED for getting us a patch out so quickly.

hmm so far I'm not seeing any of the Battlefield I know. Lots of CoD however.....

Quick Mission Generator Yeah its pretty good. It's pretty much all I have been flying with the Beta and now release. I have found the AI to be a bit more responsive and more like a battle now in the release than in the Beta. There are some quirks though. If you generate a mission close to the sea it can end up putting units in the water. Also, the weather settings are not the best really. I mainly fly "Cloudy". I would like to fly over cast with rain or just over cast. But the only option that gives weather some-what like this is "Precipitation" but this settings has overcast clouds at about 700m and fog all the way to the ground...it looks pretty crappy, I would have called this setting "heavy bad weather with Fog". I guess I can just change it in the editor before flight, but it seems like a pretty extreme weather setting for "Precipitation". I would like to know this too. Perhaps the skill of enemy units ? I have not noticed an option to add a JTAC yet, that would be great. Where do you set this?

Still present in Release Unfortunately it seems this bug is still in there now we have release. Does this mean we have to wait for nvidia to make a profile to fix it? Did some testing of FPS and flicker, may as well post it here. Used replay: "JTAC Demo Mission" Waited for turn on of TGP and acquisition of first target (APC). Res. Of CockpitDisplays FPS Flicker? 256, 41 FPS, Yes 512, 38 FPS, Yes 512 EveryFrame, 33 FPS, No 1024, 37 FPS, Yes 1024 EveryFrame, 30, No As I said before, Wags has a 295 and flys with 256 setting. I guess he has SLI disabled? Its a damn shame I cant run 1024 setting, hope this can be fixed soon.

Great compilation thanks!

Track IR-users: ATTENTION
BTTW-DratsaB replied to bmbpdk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use the track Clip pro and the worst thing I have that sets it off is the bottom of a beer can, when I lift it to my mouth to take a gulp :drink:. Sends the TrackIR haywire :D No IR there either -
It looks like hot things really stick out way more on real IR mav's sensor than in the Sim. I had a feeling the same was true for the FLIR on the TGP. Hot things just don't seem to stand out as much to me as I expected them to, Compared to real life footage. Nice videos, thanks

Nice find. Hope we can share some more settings between users. I too prefer the Beta Post Processing, although I think it could benefit from having some things like the blur/bloom turned down very slightly. I found the retail Post effects too dark and not soft enough.

Using Targeting Pod SPI for Mav Targeting- Bug?
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Related to Mav usage: In the Beta I used to use the the TGP to assign a target (say the first tank in group of three) and when I switched to Mavs and slaved the Mav seeker to the TGP and fire, it would always hit the Tank I had designated with the TGP. In the Release, in almost every Mav usage so far, the missile has hit a different target other than the one I had assigned with the TGP, in the group of targets. My guess as to why this is happening is because when I Slave the Mav to the TGP and then press TMS up short to lock the target, it is jumping off the TGP target and locking an adjacent one. I have to have a proper look to make sure this is the case next time, but that is what seems like is happening . I find seeing targets with Mav Seeker very hard. Why is this happening now in the Retail, is it more realistic? Before I use to have the TGP and MAV on each MFCD and specify each individual target with the TGP then slave the mav to it and engage. I would then switch back to TGP and assign the next target in the group and engage...repeat. However, with the MAVs not hitting what I have assigned with the TGP, I may have to give up this practise. -
Same here, thanks for the fix!

Its a sand box type game. Over time they have added "things to do" etc, like time trials around various maps. I get most enjoyment out of it by just playing with the physics. Eg. seeing if I can use a big crane to put some concrete blocks onto a trailer, then hook it up to a truck and transport it across some mountainous terrain and unload it onto a boat. Or some such :)...or just attaching a car to a crane and spinning it around as fast a possible to see what kind of a mess it makes when you release it :D
