  1. Thanks for the reply. VH-Rock, I understand fully. The artwork of yours is a pleasure to see moving about my monitor screen.:pilotfly: Thanks again for your contributions to our addiction.:music_whistling:
  2. Yes power supply is important. One can calculate the minimum requirement and go with the basic minimum to get the job done. But if you're looking down the road, buying a bit more than you need currently is probably a good investment.
  3. VH-Rock, Hope this doesn't come across as a complaint as I really like the Angels Playmate skin. Is it possible for you to add some gun smoke residue to the wings behind the gun ports. I'm flying that skin and every time I look at those wings, that flat, unblemished surface just jumps out at me. If not, I understand and still appreciate all you skinner's talent. I personally wouldn't have a clue how to do such work.
  4. Oh it's is a thing of beauty for sure and I am fully prepared to have it blow me away, as have many of the videos Wags has shown us. Onward and upward:thumbup:
  5. What settings? Yes I saw his system specs, but what I don't think he posted was whether or not he had all in game settings to "Max". DCSW2.0 may not even have such settings although I think such would be required for those with less than optimum systems. I have everything on my current system set to "Max", even "Bird Count" and it is great being able to take the sim to it's current ultimate. What ED gave us is simply amazing and like most, I believe 2.0 is going to be every bit as good if not better in all aspects. Again, until we all get to install 2.0 on OUR systems, none of us yet know how it's going to meet OUR desires/wishes.:music_whistling:
  6. Gladman, You are right about waiting for 2.0. Although you have a capable system, those of us who want to ring the most we can out of these sims are continuously looking at potential improvements via the upgrade route. I was running 2 GTX780s in SLI and was getting very high frame rates (often over 100FPS) with everything on "High". I changed those two cards out for a single NVIDIA GTX TitanX. I haven't noticed much of an improvement over the SLI setup, but I am more than satisfied with the change as at the same time I went to a 4K monitor with G-Sync (ACER XB280HK) and using G-Sync I pay little attention to actual FPS as it runs very smooth in all situations. I pulled the trigger on these upgrades as I anticipate that 2.0 and those changes in the future WILL require reasonably cutting edge systems. Call it "future-proofing" if you wish but also be aware that no one really knows what 2.0 is going to be like on the diverse amount of individual systems out there, not even ED. We ALL will simply have to wait and see and respond accordingly. I sense much will change as DCSW 2.0 goes through it's alpha release and beta phases. We'll see.
  7. Thanks After finally moving to the Leatherneck Forum I was able to find a working link that Cobra847 had posted in a thread regarding this issue. With that I was able to get the issue resolved, but at the expense of two activations.
  8. Cobra847, I have just started having the issue with the MIG-21bis key. It took me awhile to find this thread on your section of the forums. In the process of getting the issue corrected I used up two activations. Any possibility I can get those restored?
  9. Tried. Tried your fix on the link you posted but I cannot open the link you gave for removing the Mig-21bis from the registry, get "Error 404". Any other thoughts? Thanks.
  10. Not working Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't work for me. I get the "404 Cannot open page" message. Any other thoughts as this is identical to what you had. Thanks.
  11. I suppose I am resurrecting an old thread, but I just experienced the same problem as Alkaline in the opening post to this thread. Not sure what is causing this but it cost me a Mig-21 activation. No change in hardware for several months and have played most all the modules after I upgraded my graphics card and not a problem one. So does ED have any response to these issues and what may be the underlying cause? Would truly be a big disappointment to not be able to activate all my modules when EDGE and NTTR are released.
  12. NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan X
  13. Will do! As it stands now the wife and I will be doing the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike come next October:music_whistling:. In the mean time a lot of local mountain hikes to get us prepared:smilewink:.
  14. Yep! Still at it. I've been into flight sims since the mid-90's. Still have the original Microprose Falcon-4 binder/CD. Did all the Jane's stuff and Longbow 2. Stayed pretty much with Falcon4 as it went through all it's iterations. Then I discovered DCSW and the A-10C. I had tried SU-27 Flanker but just could not get the hang of it what with the Russian script and all:helpsmilie:. But with DCSW I got back in big time:pilotfly:. Got myself a Thrustmaster Warthog setup and put Falcon 4 and my Thrustmaster Cougar away for safe keeping. Eagle Dynamics has been great for me. The variety of offerings and the quality and complexity keep me at the PC, probably too much. The wife says learning all the different systems helps keep my mind sharp so she fully endorses my favorite pastime. One still cannot stop the clock so eyesight and hand-eye coordination continue to diminish with age. One of the beauties of PC flight sims, is if you make an error (and I make plenty), you simply do it again and again until you get better at it:joystick:. You don't end up pushing up daisies for one wrong judgment call. I have several of the modules, mainly to support ED (the only waterhole in the desert for hardcore flight simmers:smilewink:) but mostly stay with aircraft from my actual era, the F-86 (actually worked on FJ-4 Furys in USMC)and Mustang. I do fly the A-10C a lot and have a pretty good understanding of all the systems, but prefer to fly single player and stay within my limitations. I'll probably die with a flight stick in my hand at the PC:music_whistling:.
  15. It's okay I'm okay with the resolution I've settled on (2560X1440). Having a monitor capable of more than that could be frustrating but I see it as a future capability. I'm 72 and would challenge some of the "younger eyes" out there who have little trouble seeing the very small font sized script at very high resolutions to try it with my eyes:smilewink:. That's one of the challenges out there for sim producers, the end users are as diverse and varied as are the computers they use. I doubt they will ever be able to make everyone happy.
  16. I'm personally using an ACER XB380HK which is 4K with G-Sync. I cannot use the 4K resolution for the very reasons you have stated. I am currently using 2560X1440 both for my computer screen resolution and the DCS in-game resolution. I did the resize of communications fonts and that helped quite a lot with that aspect of the sim. But alas, I think we with the higher resolution monitors are strapped with the sizing issue until such time as 2.0 is released. Perhaps then we will see some sort of resolution to this particular issue. Until then it is simply do the best you can. Even with my current OS (Win7) I have to use resizing of fonts and zoom to be able to read most printed material. Of course that is of little use within DCSW.
  17. Well said! Not sure it will have the least impact on the debates taking place around the different performance aspects of many of ED's modules, but I do think you very well explained the "why" of many of those differences. Even individual aircraft that came off the same assembly line were frequently as different as the people who flew them.
  18. What a remarkable airframe. Can you imagine if they had put a bubble canopy on that airframe. Mercy!!
  19. Got myself the Mig-15bis and the Bf-109K. Don't have a clue when I'll find the time to become familiar and capable in either of these two aircraft as I am STILL trying to get my head around all the strengths and weaknesses of the F-86F, P-51D, and of course the voluminous amount of knowledge one must have to operate ALL the systems in the A-10C. But I will keep acquiring these modules because as I told my wife, Eagle Dynamics (DCSW) is the ONLY waterhole in the desert for those of us who want reasonably accurate flight simming, so I will support them financially even if I may not avail myself of each of their offerings. Thanks ED!!
  20. When I did my CPU/MB upgrade, I studied this issue to death. Since pretty much ALL I use my gaming computer for is DCSW, I settled on the i5 4690K vs the i7. As has been said, it provides pretty much everything DCS needs currently and of course the price is easier to take. As Jaypee said however, if one is using their PC for things other than DCS certainly the i7 price point and performance may very well be worth it.
  21. Bit, As far as I can tell, there is no light on the ACER monitor that indicates G-Sync on or off. I think the red light is applicable to the ROG Swift. That being the case I have not a clue how to determine the dynamic range you are referring to.
  22. Bit, At 4K with G-Sync working I was getting in the low 40's in the P-51 inside the pit and in the 60's outside. It was really difficult to tell as the script in the FPS display was so small I could barely make it out. When I went to the current resolution, primarily so I could read the script, it went up into the 60max inside the pit and in the high 90's + outside. I have a whole mess of mods running including all those you mentioned., plus running ALL the settings in game at max including civil traffic. I am quite happy with this setup as it really is smooth in spite of those times the FPS drops, and I attribute that to the G-Sync. Again, it is worlds better than my previous setup which was two GTX 780's in SLI on that UHD TV at 32". Can really see the distant a/c what with the pixel density and all. Easier to pick them up at distance. All this seems to match up to those that have been down this road before me so I guess that is the "bar" at the moment. Will have to wait and see what DCS 2.0 brings.
  23. Weeeeeell! I now have my ACER XB280HK monitor and my NVIDIA GTX Titan X video card up and running. Here's my initial impression: Of course graphics are stunning at 4K.:D GSync works as advertised.:) Good luck trying to read the fonts on screen in-game.:( With these old eyes, I have changed my resolution to 2560X1440:thumbup: Still looks great and of course improved FPS and I can actually read the script on screen.:) Appreciate that I was on a 32" JVC HDTV so the change is remarkable:smilewink: So far, it is very graphically beautiful but with the price. Perhaps 4K in a MUCH larger screen format, ie. 40 + incher. I have tried all the Windows scaling features but the best res for me currently is way down from 4K. Perhaps when ED releases DCSW 2.0 many things may change, so will simply accept that I have much more than works for me at the moment and will await the future.:pilotfly:
  24. Decibel dB, According to Tom's hardware, that card you have beats the NVIDIA Titan X in most of the games they used for their testing. I think you are still running the strongest card at the moment EXCEPT for DCS. As you have indicated DCS simply does not like AMD cards as compared to Nividia's offerings, hence my choice of the Titan X. I suggest you be patient and see what DCS 2.0 does for you. I think you will be more than pleased.
  25. SHHHH! If the wife finds out that I keep chasing this "cutting edge" stuff, she will have my head on a platter:music_whistling:. If I sat down and tried to calculate all the $$$$$$$$ I've spent just to stay around the highest FPS in my sims, I could probably have bought myself a private plane and gotten a pilots license;) Been at this since the mid-90's. Currently have ASUS GTX-780's running in SLI and some reviews have indicated that would be sufficient for the new ACER monitor. Can't take that chance so went with the latest "Beast".
