  1. In an ideal world. But one drive will work just fine. I keep OS and DCS on the NVMe. One extra SSD for all Steam/Blizzard/Pubg stuff.
  2. Yeah, it's entirely possible that your carrier is rate limiting Torrent to a point that it breaks. When I downloaded the update a few days ago, I noticed the Torrent was pretty slow. Like 1.7 MBytes/sec. So I just hit cancel and used HTTP download and it was 8 to 10 times faster. At the time, it could have been because there weren't enough torrent peers to take advantage of.
  3. I just remembered something. Our peripheral vision is trash. We think we see the world in perfect clarity but outside of narrow front view, we really can't distinguish much. Probably why pilots strain their necks to check six like in the picture below (after he dropped his load). There was a NatGeo Brain Games episode a few years back that showed how bad the peripheral vision really is. It was a test of looking a person and trying to determine who was standing to the left and right of that person. They weren't even close to the limit of the peripheral vision. In that test, I couldn't tell if it was a man, a woman, what clothes they were wearing. Pretty eye opening - pun intended. So if you need any kind of visual clarity, you're still going to have to put the object (that you want to see) in the front of your eyes. I still want larger FoV for routine things like flipping a switch though.
  4. In Windows Settings, Sound Settings, is you input and output mapped properly to Plantronics? I don't know if that's the case, but it's easy to rule out/check.
  5. It was a joke. Gazelle is fine if you just create a deadened profile. Otherwise, it's like a rabid monkey and very hard to control. I for one will buy the OH58 on day one.
  6. We shouldn't be hot and bothered by lack of licensing. That a licensing agreement from the manufacturer of the aircraft is required in all cases. It may be for ED, but for independent producers, it may not be. That's I read. Oh and that Blackhawk is imminent from these guys. That's what I read and that's what I choose to believe. :D
  7. That's a good deal for sure. I just went with family O365 plan. 5 PCs, and 5 mobile/tablet installs and all five PC users get 1TB each of OneDrive storage. All for $95 a year. If you have a student in the family, it can be much cheaper. $8 a month is far more expensive that the 5€ but when you throw in the 5TBs of storage, it's not too bad.
  8. I think that qualifies as particular! :D:thumbup: But I wholeheartedly agree that sound helps with gameplay and immersion. Every time I see a movie with sound (like from PRC77 radio) I get nostalgic. The memories come flooding back triggered by the sound effects. If I ever get a room dedicated, I'll have to try out what you're doing. Thanks for posting it in detail.
  9. I think you're spot on about everything. That's one of the reasons I liked the Pimax5K+. The added FoV. But for me, clarity of Reverb made me not miss the wider FoV. So it's a choice one can make. When more VR optimization and better hardware is available in the next year or two, the wider FoV at much higher resolution would make this problem a moot point. But using logical tricks like snapviews and over rotation would make us air sick quickly. The distortion of snapviews will be nauseating for most of us, I believe.
  10. I had to rotate my pedals at a higher angle so that it would be easier to press down on the brakes. And because I'm on a hardwood floor too far away from the wall, I mounted it on a piece of scrap lumber. I too am glad I purchased them. As you mentioned, for rotary aircraft, a good rudder is mandatory!
  11. EVGA Z370 Classified and uses Gen3 speeds.
  12. I would go with 1TB SSD. I did some testing running DCS on SSD and NVMe. There was zero difference. All the load times, etc varied by a second one way or the other. I typed up the timing for various aircraft and mission load times in the ED Forums » English » Reality » PC Hardware and Related Software forum. Found it: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3740017&postcount=17
  13. I guess you must have a vsync monitor since you should be getting WAY better performance with your rig. If you don't have vsync monitor (or gsync), something is SERIOUSLY hosed with your system. You should be in the 100s of FPS. Having said that, I see zero benefit between 60 and 100 FPS in DCS. It makes no difference to me visually. It's not like we're playing first person shooter where faster refresh can make a difference lining up a shot. Finally, people have reported that having vsync enabled causes VR issues, but I'm sure you've checked that already.
  14. Yeah, I don't see why not. In the early days, if DCS didn't detect Rift, it just played it out in the HMD as a flat screen (2d) game. But it's not a great experience because it doesn't fill your HMD with just DCS. It's a screen on a wall where DCS plays. So you will see the "rest of the VR room" and DCS playing on a "tv" hanging on a wall. And I know there are programs to fill up the screen within VR HMD (BigWall, was it/) but I think the processing over head would kill performance. Finally, until Reverb came out, resolution wasn't good enough. So the visual clarity of the 2D screen in HMD would be horrible.
  15. Search for post from SkateZilla. He went into detail about the differences, benefits, etc.
  16. Wow, that's quite a career! I've always thought the F-111 was a cool looking plane. Something about the lines of it. Also, I'll Private Message you. When you log in next time, it'll let you know that you have a private message. It has to do with the MFDs.
  17. BTW, those are 8" monitors which are slightly bigger than what fits for the MFDs. So I just covered up the excess monitor with a plastic "Wanted" signs that you can buy from Home Depot (any hardware store) And I just painted it matte black. 7" is JUST slightly too small, and 8" is a little bigger but a better fit. What hardware PC do you have? Also, I noticed you flew in the Air Force? What did you fly, if you don't mind my asking?
  18. It's ridiculously easy to setup even with external monitors. Also, you don't *have* to set it up in some aircraft if you only want the TM MFD's, it just works out of the box. What planes are you interested in? And yes, when you physically push a button, it'll be like you're pushing the in-game button using the mouse. This is what it looks like when I had the 3 monitors + 2 8 inch monitors for the MFCDs.
  19. It could be that they are curious though. What I *dont't* get is people saying it's not ready for prime time, never having played in VR. That, I just don't get. How do you put down something you've never tried? Very odd to me.
  20. If you have a base station, you'll have spot on tracking which is better than inside-out-tracking. You also can play even if it's dark or have no discernible patterns on the wall which can confuse inside out units. For example, when I had the Vive, I could throw the controller in the air and catch it with my HMD on. Because it was *that* accurate. Vive Pro does not have the best resolution. Today, that's HP Reverb. But that comes with inside out tracking. Would it be good enough for FPS? Probably unless you are a competitive player. I would *think* that aiming w/o a weapon replica would make it uncomfortable for me.
  21. Sure, but it'll be a week (traveling for work tomorrow)
  22. Yes. But many people who don't use VR like to export the MFD in game to a monitor that you can attach to MFD. 8" USB or VGA to maximize the experience. Basically, Thrustmaster MFD is a USB button box. It's no different other than there is native support for A10 and FA18 out of the box. Although in FA18, the button number was different so you had to manually reassign it. Not a big deal in the big scheme of things.
  23. I wonder what it is about VR vs 2D monitors that make these debates rage on. It's the same as Linux vs BSD back in the days, to Windows vs Mac, or Linux vs EveryOtherOS debates. I guess it's just tribal "my baby is cuter than your baby since I spent a lot of discretionary funds on it"? Maybe. But it has ben raging on these forums since DK1.
  24. I'm getting 59-64 FPS when looking forward, left and right on the FA18 Instant Action, Ready on the Ramp in Persian map. Which is different than before because I only showed 45 or 90. So I guess at some point, ASW like function was turned off. EDIT: I forgot to add that I installed ProcessLasso (set it to GAME mode). I didn't do extensive testing with it on or off, but I'm not have any issues with smoothness so I just left it on. CPU is at 5.1 GHz, and GPU is using 1185 MHz setting. and DCS setting
