How is that even possible? Isn't that like saying Ford's about to release a new truck that will put John Deere out of business? It's entirely different market and genre, no? I think of it as more of a civilian version DCS. Also, I think people are overlooking the expansive map, weather, clouds etc. It's not a flop by any means. Having said that, I'll only take it for a spin when VR comes out.

In Settings (where you assign controls to planes), there is one for UI Layer In there, you'll be able to bind a key (stick or keyboard) for VR Recenter.

3090! Going big time Don!!! :D BTW, I EVGA's Z490 was sold out for a while so I went with MSI. It's OK, but I really really prefer EVGA. Me: Wait for the reviews to come out before you buy anything Me: Casually going to EVGA to see if it's on sale! LOL

With SSD/M.2, I don't see how RAID helps you except RAID5. Back in the days, mirroring was a cheap way to protect your data from a drive failure. And striping (raid 0) made sense if performance was your top concern - even at the risk of one drive failing causing loss of both/all drives. But with SSD, performance isn't a bottleneck for games. You can still go with RAID5 since it will protect you from one drive (need three at a minimum) failure. Remember, when SSD's go bad, there's no warning, it just goes bad. But with faster Internet connections, it really doesn't take that long to rebuild things from scratch. Faster if you back up your drives.

I think you'll be good to go with 1TB/2TB setup. Also, check out RockitCool's Direct-to-Die AIO cooling solution. Not a lot of money but it really helps. Even the regular delid'ing helps quite a bit.

Hmmm, my order number is only 8 digits.

LOL. What a genius he was! :D

I don't think it's all that alternative. I *enjoy* the hell out of DCS. But i don't *live* for DCS. Sometimes, I take an A10 out just to do touch and go's. Never did that until VR became a thing. I'm pretty sure there are many like us! :)

How to determine if my system is CPU or GPU bound?
hansangb replied to DutchCoolHand's topic in Virtual Reality
I have it, but spent maybe 15 minutes in it. Just to fly around LGA and see my condo. That's about it. When they release the VR update (timed with Reverb G2, they say) then I'll give another go. It is very cool though, that they model the real weather in real time. -
Status of A-10C after A-10C II comes?
hansangb replied to Terzi's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
But it's a silly argument. The A10C isn't going away. What you're saying is something like "car companies can't come out with new engines because people invested countless hours on after market upgrades" IF ED was taking away A10C, sure I'd be with you. But *NOTHING* is changing for the owners of current product. However, at some point, companies *HAVE* to abandon old software. The regression testing will take longer and longer if you have to keep old software around. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy that ED came out new textures for a 10 year old product. But I don't expect them to do that. I'm not sure why ED audience expects perpetual support. It's just not tenable financially. And if you're building a pit full scale, you do have to take the risk into consideration. For example, the "DRM check online" is the one thing that does concern me. Because what if ED folds up shop? I don't think they are obligated to remove the licensing checking. In which case none of us would be able to play. As for BS upgrade, it's not an allegation. It was an inconvenience that ED decided to remove. But maybe you were talking about a different issue? Sounds like it was related to a sanity check for multiplayers. I'm always curious why a certain segment of DCS players (not referring to you) seem to think the worse of ED. Very odd. PS: This is a new Windows install. And I just realized that Firefox defaulted to adding double lines. And it looks like that's happening to you too? If you use ABOUT:CONFIG, then look for editor.use_div_for_default_newlines you can toggle it to FALSE. I just saw my own post and it reminded me to fix it. -
Status of A-10C after A-10C II comes?
hansangb replied to Terzi's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
guess you weren't here for the Great HeatBlur's "when is Spring of 2019" exactly? Astronomical? Gregorian? Calendar year? Meteorlogical? You'd think I'm kidding but I'm not! :D Also, ED has done this with BlackShark already. There's precedent on how stuff like this was handled. Hell they even listened and allowed people who purchased DVD version of BS1, then bought the upgrade to *not* have to install BS1 during the "upgrade" -
These days, it's very very very hard to mess anything up. VMWare used to give free licenses for VM Workstation (they still may). There's VirtualBox from, well I guess Oracle. VirtualBox even comes with a few MSDOS flavors. And recent windows 10 upgrade gave the same capability as previously posted. Good luck!

I'm all for better performance. But honestly, my Reverb runs just fine for me. I haven't tried it with my new cpu/MB, but I didn't have any issues running it. And I don't really use it for anything other than DCS so I don't know. I have MS2020 so I guess I'll find out!

What if it's like refried beans? It tastes just as good fried as opposed to refried and we've been wasting our time? Tribute to: Mitch Hedberg! :) But we don't know if it'll perform any worse at 10GB. Doesn't DCS just take whatever it can, because it can? It'll be interesting to see the benchmarks come out..

You can go here: http://www.connection.com/IPA/Reporting/OrderTrackingRequest Put in your order # etc, and it will tell you what status your order is in.

So ED is supposed to lift the middle finger to the "other camp"? Also, another problem is that you're hitching your wagon to a vendor who may or may not make wholesale changes. And if that happens, then what? Or what if the Red team's gear takes off and becomes the dominant vendor. ED has to retool to support that? Before you say "that'll never happen" there was a time when WordPerfect and Lotus 123 ruled the world. Sticking with an open standard that everyone supports is the wiser strategy. The onus is on Nvidia to make the adoption as easy as possible. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see all the fancy new things nvda comes out with in DCS. But I completely understand ED's position as well.

I see. It's probably more function of age and not so much 32 vs 64 bit. Older programs were allowed to make all kinds of direct calls to the hardware, for example. So the older it its, the less likelihood of success. And there isn't a good solution since the market for running very old software is, well, almost non-existent. Apple on the other hand will have to go through another round of architecture change a la emulators. PowerPC to Intel, and now Intel to Apple Silicon in a year or two. I feel so bad for the devs. Yikes.

DCS 2020 and Beyond PC Build!
hansangb replied to Peter97's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That was hilarious!!!! But if the 2080Ti does drop to $400-$500, it would be a good buy for the bargain hunters. Especially for DCS where DLSS and RTX is a moot point. -
That's going to suck if it turns out to be true. Grrrrrrr.
-
Oh, I see. Well that kind of sucks. I haven't had a chance to fire up DCS after the MB upgrade. I'll give it a whirl this weekend and report back.

You have to make sure you enable Speech options in SETTINGs. I don't have a the link anymore, but when I googled it, it had step by step instructions. Make sure you speech is enabled in Windows.

Yes, because no matter what DCS does, someone will get pissed about this that or the other. I can't blame them from holding the cards close to the vest.
