  1. It reads like it's doing garbage collection for you. I didn't investigate too hard, but that's what it sounds like it's doing. There's nothing wrong with it, it's been working for ages in computers.
  2. Ahhhh I was thinking of a different reviewer. Also Pimax has a right to protect themselves with NDA. For example a reviewer may have it setup incorrectly causing a negative review. Not everything belongs in the X-Files category of conspiracy.
  3. Wait, I though he went to work for PiMax? Or is it a different company (or person, LOL) that I'm thinking of?
  4. Don't sweat it. I'm not so sure why people when CSI on you.
  5. Lot of back and forth. But I think I saw 4GB page file. Did you change that to auto/system managed? I'll post my settings tomorrow. We have almost the same settings except for the 3200MHz DDR vs 3000. And I'm at 5.1GHz on the CPU (should be negligible). BTW, did you actually VERIFY that it's running at 5.0 GHz with CPUID CPU-Z or similar?
  6. I guess it's statements like this that make people react to you the way they do. How can a subjective experience like smoothness/vision be objective. I have SUPER SMOOTH experience in VR with Reverb. But it's 100% subjective. Also it's smooth to me because I suffered through the early days of judder fest. I mean I get that you don't like VR, or don't think it's ready for prime time or that there are rabid fanbases who overlook every downside (which there are plenty -FoV for one. And you can't FACTUALLY prove anything unless you've sat in front of every computer. I mean there must be a 1,000 posts on here with same/similar setups having all kinds of issues, and another 1,000 that don't. We get it. You're not a fan. Move on. You *are* a prima donna because you conflate opinion to facts. And it's simply not possible given the subjective nature and the myriad of hardware/software combinations. You wouldn't have enough time in the day nor the budget to recreate every single permutation. Factual? You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means.
  7. wow, looks really nice!
  8. Unless you're into VR. A "little bit" could mean rock solid 45FPS or not. It's a pretty big deal for VR users.
  9. You don't have to use them. It's in Google's EULA. If you don't want Google to read your email to generate ads, there are alternative email platforms. I didn't follow the AVAST thing too closely, but I *believe* the issue is that no one knew? I'm not an AVAST user so I've never looked at the EULA.
  10. FoV is certainly nice. But resolution is king. I found that out firsthand when I ditched the 5K+ for Reverb.
  11. You should do both. The diff file gets created only if you change something or add something in terms of binding. I have a backup job that I run periodically (and before updates) to make sure I don't have to start from scratch.
  12. Just as a sanity check, follow the concepts that I wrote about here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2616874&postcount=799 How you define windows monitor setup makes a big difference. Also, there are optimization techniques like stretching it more to right that putting it below like I did. But I never had an issue when I used to fly with this setup.
  13. People are running it with 1080Ti, albeit with 9900K processor. The native resolution being high and not requiring SS/PD increase does make a difference, I think.
  14. Are you sure you have PD set to 1.0 in DCS? Or maybe you jacked up SS in SteamVR too high?
  15. With Reverb's 2160x2160 resolution per eye, I'd say we're there. It's pretty nice.
  16. If you look at my spec, you'll see that I still have a generation or two behind CPU. But's it's overclocked to 5.1GHz. And that matters for DCS. And i have terrific experience in HP Reverb's glorious high resolution! :) For $4,500 you can get a great rig from many of the boutique gaming PC sites like Falcon Northwest and others. I would shoot for the highest clock speed (5GHz) 3200MHz 32GB memory. Speed matters in VR. Not so much if you're just doing monitor gaming. 2080Ti 1TB SSD. You can splurge on NVMe, but it won't make any difference in DCS. A very beefy power supply. Most gaming rigs come with decent power supplies (800W or better) Most highend gaming rigs will come with All-in-one (AIO) water coolers for the CPU. So keep an eye on that. Some will have it for the GPU as well. But I have the 3 fan 2080Ti and it's not really getting too hot. But it's a must for my OC'ed CPU.
  17. If you have to squint and it's clearer, you need glasses :D Also, make sure you took the plastic cover off of the lenses. Seems to be a common mistake.
  18. There was an FA18 aviator checking six. And it was pretty exaggerated. I remember that sticking out. Although it could have been a Viper driver. But there's a reason why fighters have handle bars to grab as you turn. In VR setting, we could *all* use something like that. As I often reach out to grab the bars that I see in the game. :D
  19. Yeah, I had the Pimax 5K+ and Rift at the same time. I gave away the Rift, and sold the P5K+. When I went back to Rift, I finally understood what people meant when they said "looking through a scuba mask" But when I got the Reverb, the added clarity overcame the smaller FOV. I wish I could have both, but I can't so I chose resolution over FoV. Can the 8K finally deliver both? Maybe. But the software on 5K+ was finicky. Usable to a VR veteran, but newcomers may find it too daunting.
  20. The resolution would hold me back. Once you have Reverb clarity, it's hard, really hard, to go back.
  21. Hmm, could be. I haven't kept up following up on other HMD details since I got the Rift! :D
  22. The dark room doesn't matter if you're flying VR. You'll be looking at a bright screen inches from your face anyway. I like using physical buttons etc. So I use the gap in the bridge of the nose to look out at the "real world" There are no pass through cameras that I know of that has high enough resolution to do what you want to do. There is also a VR mod that let you type things, but I think you said you don't like the electronic version. So I'm thinking a real kneepad may work for you using my sneak-a-peak method. Reverb does have the best resolution. And it's incredibly clear. But I'm not sure if 1080 will drive it. Maybe ask in the HP Reverb thread. Someone there might be running it. Finally, inside out tracking does require something for the camera to look at. So all black walls may not work so well. But a few led bulbs stuck on a wall will take care of it *if* tracking with a passive camera (inside-out-tracking) doesn't pan out. If you must have the darkened room painted black and inside out tracking doesn't work, you can use Vive lighthouse based solutions like Pimax, Vive, Vive Pro and maybe others? lighthouse uses lasers and it doesn't matter how dark the room is. While the original Rift used IR (I think) emitters, I can't recommend Rift at this point. And I don't know enough about Rift S to chime in.
  23. I said the same thing about PUBG. "it's the only game that does it, it must be PUBG" But you're getting BSOD, where I was getting power off. How many memory sticks do you have? I'd start taking them out (in pairs or singly depending on your layout) to isolate a bad memory chip. Running MEMTEST for 24 hours didn't catch it in my case. grr.
  24. I had a similar problem. But it died w/in minutes of playing PUBG. And only PUBG. But since software can't turn off HW, I suspected my power supply. But it took me a long time to get there because I did all the stress tests out there. Cinebench, memtest, you name it. After I replaced my PSU all my problems magically disappeared. Also, there was another instance where one of my four memory sticks went bad. That was more hit and miss, but I was finally able to nail it down to won specific memory bank. So I would try using a different cable for the power to your GPU. Make sure it's seated and the contacts are cleaned. Check for bios updates. Make sure you're no OC'ing the CPU or GPU as a start. And check what speed the memory is set to in BIOS. Finally, use GPU-Z or MSIs of the world to check for thermal issues on the CPU/GPU or even memory.
  25. Pimax5K+ is the only HMD that has wider than 110+ field of view. I think Reverb is 114, or something like that. So yes, you do have turn your head more than in real life. But not *that* much more, I don't think. But Reverb is much smoother and clearer than Pimax 5K. The 8K might be the answer, but the 5K software wasn't great. It was OK, and I used it. But it's only because I'm so used to VR that little judder doesn't bother me *that* much.
