CPU overclock - is it truely worth it for DCS?
hansangb replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Or..Or, when you're discussing performance, it stops the endless "what HW do you have, what ram? what speed, hdd sdd?, etc.etc.etc. What kind of dolt would "show off" via something so trivial like what the computer spec is? You'd have to be a very shallow person to think you're showing off and a very envious person to covet someone else's. As for cars and watches, maybe they can afford it and just enjoy it. Who wouldn't want a Ferrari or Lambo in their garage if they coudl afford it? -
Most of us have hardware specs not to show off, but so people can see how a situation ("barely playable") relates to a particular set of hardware. 2100MHz is slow by today's standards and VR really does benefit from faster RAM. And you're good on 9900K running at 5GHz. What VR HMD do you have? Is it Pimax by any chance? Also, what settings in WMR/SteamVR/DCS is in play? For example, recently there was a person who was having a horrible experience. But he was supersampling in SteamVR, and also in DCS via Pixel Density option.

Remember, that's what it's asking for. Whether it uses that much or not, doesn't show with GPU-Z's of the world. It's just allocated memory (wishful thinking by the app)

It was from a 1080, he mentioned that he hadn't updated his .sig IIRC. But the point stands.

Dual monitor or maybe triple in future
hansangb replied to emc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have a look at my 3 monitor setup (Dell monitors, no less). I was able to drive it with 4790K and 980Ti if memory serves. Two monitor is OK, but it would be odd to stretch the cockpit. Probably better to display the MFDs? https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2616874&postcount=799 -
Missed devices after formatting Windows
hansangb replied to Ala12Rv-Tundra's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Couple of things. I would remove the diff.lua files (set them aside safely) and repair DCS. Then put the DIFF lua files back in there. However, that my not be the problem. The problem could be that your USB devices GUID (globally unique ID) is different. Better thing would have been to backup the controller setup and not just the diff lua files. I'm away from the computer with DCS, but when I get there, I'll show you where to find the GUID in the registry. -
Looks like it's time to update your .sig! Enjoy your 3090

I guess the one variable is how many people do they have working on projects. I haven't a clue. I think Belsimtek did a great job as well with the Huey (despite the ongoing drama of multi-mode). But in general, I give a lot of slack to ED and 3rd party because this is a small community and there isn't much to be made in terms of profits. I don't want them to go the way of MicroProse or Spectrum Holobyte. As for profits, compared to the likes of FPS it's pennies on the dollar. Keep in mind that Epic made a BILLION dollars selling fake clothes to gamers in Fortnite. So whatever ED/3rd party is making, it's not even close, that I'm sure.

So I guess it wasn't a paper launch. on Gamer's nexus they talked to SIs who said they had a fair amount of inventory. It just sold out. When NewEgg, Nvidia and EVGA see record setting traffic, what can you do? Were there scalpers? Of course. But i don't know how you can go and stop that. I guess better CAPTCHA but that's just a cat and mouse game.

I remember dragging all of my computer (an Austin 16MHz 80268 with a 10MB HardCARD - and CopyIIPC of course), my monitor and null modem to my friend's house. We finally finished the mission and was coming back. That's when I tried the "I, we, were inverted" Top Gun. I saw my Intruder on his monitor and tried the inverted move. He wanted to land and get the credit, and I said "it'll be fine" When we crashed, he was so pissed!!!! :D:D:D Great times!

When I saw the "Update on Your HP Reverb G2 Pre-order" subject line, my heart skipped a beat. LOL.

I Need Help Wit my pimax 5K PLus Pretty Please

Tucsonan! Went to U of A and lived by Pima College West near gates pass. Beautiful! I miss it, but not the damn cholla's. I can't tell you how many I had in my system after running into them during Army ROTC field training. -
But the price point *IS* a considerable factor. Otherwise, we'd all be going for RTX8000's! :D

Yeah, this was on chit-chat but it's one of the most well done walk-arounds.

Yes. But REVERB.. Not Rift. But you probably knew that already. The second generation is going to ship soon that has a larger sweeter spot and better lens per MRTV reviews. Also, the wider FoV on Pimax was great. Everything else, not so much. So I got the Reverb instead. -
Or, or, or....PointCTRL system made by a DCS'er. It's in the main INPUT/OUTPUT thread. Check it out.

Ouch. That had to *HURT*. My condolences.

I'm an odd exception. I won't fly monitor based DCS anymore because of VR. Honestly, I'd just rather not do it if VR wasn't an option. However, I just love my physical switches and MFCDs. I can look through the camera in some cases or just peek to see the MFDs. The problem is that Lilliput USB monitors use DisplayLink drivers. And VR and DisplayLink never worked. I'll see if DCS gets confused when trying to export MFDs and using VR (most likely). But at the very least, I can test it on a 2D monitor.

Make sure you took the plastic off the lens. Might as well as rule it out. 5KPlus was way clearer for me. But Pitools immaturity led me to ditch it in favor of HP's Rift (which was yet another step up from 5K+). Remove the PD. So set it to 0 in DCS. You don't need it since you're doing it in SteamVR. But the SS value seems way way way too high. 5K+'s native resolution is 2560 × 1440 and you're setting it to 9220x4364!! On my 8700K/2080Ti setup I used the settings below. If you google for "hansangb pimax through the lens" you'll find the video that I did. I'm pretty sure I went over the settings in that video. Also, I use Process Lasso. There is a free version so you might want to give that a go. -
IIRC, it's more of a jump from 1080Ti to 2080 so it seems line. And the more there is a GPU bottleneck, 3080 seems to pull ahead. Also, 20% increase could make a huge difference for us VR users. I can't wait to see some DCS specific tests. Maybe MRTV will have something soon.

Fight for Honor - A Folds of Honor Charity Event
hansangb replied to M0ltar's topic in Tournaments & Events
I said to myself "What possible drama could have erupted about a charity event based on a flight game?" Yes, I know we like to think DCS is a simulation and not a game, but come on people, it's a game. It's a GREAT game with details lacking in any other, but it's still a game. Because no one will every die playing this game. This happens when people play paintball/laser tag too. People think they can be part of CAG or DEVGRU with awesome shots during a game. It's mind boggling how people can get wrapped around an axle about nothing. Also, for those of you that want to support this, you can still go to the website (in Mover's description) and donate w/o having to sign up for the tournament. Have fun everyone! -
Yeah, I enjoyed it. It was a good series read. Maybe a little formulaic, but what book isn't! Also, free if you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber.

You betcha! I'll email you.

Now you're making gimbal replacements for Thrusmaster? Or new angled stick? Did you trademark "MilesMaster" yet? :)
