You should tell us which plane/terrain and mission. It does factor in quite a bit.

Oculus ASW vs Steam equivalent @ Sep 2020
hansangb replied to jason_peters's topic in Virtual Reality
So two things. Even w/o ASW, it shouldn't feel bad when you move around. Not for Odyssey and your spec. But the artifact for props is a well known thing. It's very personal, meaning some people hate it, some don't seem to mind etc. I'm in the latter camp so I don't know the status of the fix. I thought it was addressed at one point, but I could be way off base. -
You got the trolling baptism under fire over and done with! :) Have fun!

3080 performance with different CPU'S
hansangb replied to Bearskin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well aware, hence the "ironically" The industry norm for 4K is what i wrote. -
My guess would be that the game intercepts the keyboard interrupts. Where as DCS leaves alt-tab alone because it has been used historically to switch apps. Back in the day, INT13 was what was raised for keyboard, but I have no idea if Windows depends on that anymore.

You don't know what the hell you're saying, what's WRONG with you! :D:D Now that we got that out of the way, welcome aboard to DCS train with VR. In case you don't know there is an INPUT/OUTPUT thread with VR sub-thread. Just in case you weren't aware. The cookie trail for it is: ED Forums » English » DCS World Topics » Input and Output » Virtual Reality And +1 on VR FPS utility.

3080 performance with different CPU'S
hansangb replied to Bearskin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For VR, tests seem to indicate it does make a difference. There was a YT video of side by side game play with different RAM speeds. But I can't seem to find it now. -

But it's not, ironically, "4K". Reverb G1 or G2 is 2160x2160. Industry norm for 4K is 3840 × 2160 for TVs and monitors. -
CPU overclock - is it truely worth it for DCS?
hansangb replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It would be very very hard to nail this down I think. I guess one way to test is to turn boost on and off to see if makes any difference? But jumping around could cause latency issues, so again, I don't know anyone here who would be able to know *for sure*. -
I got you. The most immediate problem is that that there is no standard. So unless the industry adopts one (which they won't, I don't think) we're SOL on that front. Maybe when true haptic feedback gloves are mainstream and you can't tell whether you're holding a real HOTAS or not, then maybe the industry will standardize.

Oculus ASW vs Steam equivalent @ Sep 2020
hansangb replied to jason_peters's topic in Virtual Reality
From HW spec, you should be pretty good for Odyssey. But you need to tells you in game settings, PD settings, SteamVR setting, WRM setting etc. And what mission on what map. It matters. For example, Persian gulf is way better than Normandy, for example. -
Missed devices after formatting Windows
hansangb replied to Ala12Rv-Tundra's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just to be clear, you deleted the SAVED games folder *before* reinstalling, is that right? -
But you can choose to do that. Why would you want to deny others (vast majority would be my guess) who want to play with it and learn as new features are released?
-
For TMWH, I thought that the spring mod of removing the main spring helped greatly and was mandatory for Huey. And it doesn't cost anything. Or adding extension to WH. That makes a world of difference as well.

ED should equip a 3080 streamer with DCS
hansangb replied to Motomouse's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Something seems off. You should be getting a much better experience. Make sure you're not SS in SteamVR *and* increasing PD in game. As a start. -
Well aware. I thought that was well established. But I guess I should have made it clearer. Platinum is what I buy.
-
It would help if you told use what PD /SS you are using. In the VR thread, someone was having a horrible time with VR only to find out that they were SS and PD'ing (is that a word?) Also, the good news is that if you were to pick up Reverb, you don't have to SS/PD and you'll have no issues reading the cockpit. As G2 reverb comes out, I imagine you'll be able to pickup G1 at a cheap price.

Yes, I had a much better experience from 1080Ti to 2080Ti. At the time, I was on 8700K running at 5.1GHz (delid so temp was pretty low). My 1080Ti was AIO so I boosted the speed just a tiny bit, nothing to write home about. And 2080Ti was till better.

Yup. Fair is fair. Palmer's Rift was a generational game changer. I can't think of anything that made *that* much of a difference in the past. It truly was a revolutionary change to gaming. I still have the DK1 DK2 in the hard cases it came in. Don't have the heart to throw it out! :) And as much as we want more performance out of ED for DCS, I will *never* forget the first time I tried DCS in DK1. Mind was blown.

I have the VR-lens-lab one. It sits a little too close to the eye so I added a little bit of foam to separate it from my eyes. But I've had it for a while. I'm not a fan of HMD specific inserts because it's of no use if you change it. I've used the vr-lens-lab goggles with CV1, Pimax, Odyssey, and not Reverb. To me, that's the way to go.

One argument for "more powerful PSU" is that a good power supply can last 10 years. So that means it can be reused with 3 or 4 generation of upgrades. So if one component could benefit from future-proofing, it would be the power supply.

CPU overclock - is it truely worth it for DCS?

But remember, the turbo boost doesn't work on all cores, right? Whereas the OC'ing does boost all cores. -

I yanked my 8700K because I had it delid'ed and ran just fine at 5.1GHz. The temp was lower with 5.1GHz than default after delid'ing it. So it was "free" upgrade save for the delid kit ($40 I think). Also, for VR players, EVERY FPS matters so we're like junkies in wanting the eek out every fps we can. :) A while back, I got Process Lasso and it made VR better. It could have been placebo effect, but it hasn't hurt. So there's yet another variable to consider.
