  1. That's pretty funny! Glad you're enjoying the Reverb.
  2. I ran into many a cacti at Davis Monthan! :D I'm sure the weather was beautiful. Welcome back!
  3. There's defending, bitching, and pontificating on forums - that costs you nothing but your time - and shelling out money for products. And in that case, I always say follow the money. EA seems pretty successful judging by their stock recovery. This reminds me of the DRM that DCS used (Starlock, or something like that). How many people complained about it, but yet still paid for DCS products? ED got rid of it in lieu of licensing, but it's not like they went bankrupt because no one purchased the product with that DRM. My guess would be that there would be a net positive for ED if they pulled the trigger. But I agree that arcade level products are needed to pull the occasional players. And I'll say it again. It's mostly here today a al pre-purchase plans.
  4. I think he means keeping a copy of it elsewhere. I suppose you can change the attribute to be read-only, but DCS will probably throw an error?
  5. I tested this between SSD and M.2 NVMe. I posted the times on this forum a while back. There was no appreciable difference between using SSD and NVMe.
  6. When it doesn't show up, it's due to a typo. Which you have, two missing commas and a misplaced bracket. _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('CameraOnescreenother'); Description = 'Center screen and RWR on right' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 2560; height = 1080; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 2.37037037; }, /* removed a bracket from here and added it at the bottom */ RWR_SCREEN = { x = screen.width 2570; y = screen.height 0; width = 610; height = 610; }, }
  7. Why not just set it to AUTO and give it a shot?
  8. Plunking down $5 to try out FA18 for a month may hook someone who otherwise wouldn't have. Today you have to pay for the entire module just to try it.
  9. Corsair for me. Others have mentioned it, but i want it so I can play the Bah Bah Blacksheep theme song every time I take it out for a spin! :) The siren, the snare drum, love it!
  10. Where you served is *very* different than "who you served with" Saying you were at Bragg may be "ok" but saying that you were with The Unit, Ranger batt, or SF is no different than stolen valor. I remember in my IOBC class, a classmate had all these awards sown onto the ....er.... his bag. Let's leave it at that in this rabid PC culture. :D And I said "dude, are you insane? You're walking around Benning with all those badges on your ...[beep]...bag?" And he says, "I have to rip it all out, but I have to wait until my fiance leaves. She did it for me as a gift." And I told him go to the PX, get another [beep]bag and keep the other in the trunk. And swap it out when you go back to your BOQ. Problem solved.
  11. It's funny how many "ex Army" guys are SF, Ranger, and Delta. I was coming out of the range to pay when the guy behind the counter said "nice shooting, where'd you learn?" I said "I was in the Army" and of course the guy says "really? I was a Ranger" [since he already failed the first test I decided to have a little fun] So I did my standard test. "Oh really, which Batt were you with?" And the guy says "2nd Battalion" And I say "Or right, you guys were in Hunter right?" And he says "yeah, we were..." BUSTED. The thing about the military is that it is *SO* full of jargon that unless you've served, you will *not* get it right. There is no document that tells you all the little things that just becomes part of you. And that's just in the Infantry. And I remember when we had CAS class and the FACs (now called JTACs) were talking to F16 pilots. It was like they were talking in a foreign language. So I would agree with Infiltrator. You can spot a fake just by the way they say Hooah wrong. Or "high speed" or not knowing what "PMCS" is or saying "over an out" So don't be a fake. Also, if someone says they are ex-Army, and they are riding shotgun in your car, and they don't say "clear right" as you're making a left turn, they are a fake :D My other litmus test for the Army is "what was that, you know, 1st general order? Do you remember?" LOL
  12. FWIW, there has been a huge jump in releases in the last two years. It seems like we were waiting forever for FA18, F14, and not we have super carrier, new maps, F16s etc. With Hind and Cobra, and OH58 on the horizon. Good time to be a DCS player.
  13. The incentive is to keep building and adding on to keep the customer base growing and have recurring revenue to invest more into the core of the product. In a way, we sorta kinda have it already. If you take F16, F/A18, and F14 from prerlease, it's a lot of money. That would probably add up to a few years worth of monthly subscription. With new "releases" like radar, weapons etc. being added. So I know the knee-jerk reaction is to say "Hell no!" in reality, we almost have it as a service. You just pay a lump sum ahead of time while getting incremental updates. And I do have every module DCS has (except MiGs) and my reasoning is that I'm able to support them and DLC makers. Small contribution to a hobby that I really enjoy. EDIT: I was just reading the "thank you Nick Grey" and I said "who's that?" And coincidentally, what I wrote above is pretty much what the ED founder wrote https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4045236&postcount=4 I wonder why they wouldn't post something like that here.
  14. I would think it's the MILSPEC 33558 font.
  15. I don't know. Reverb works incredibly well for me. I was going to make an through the lens video last weekend and realized that my GoPro only goes to 1440 resolution. Too low of a resolution to capture the 2160 vertical resolution. I love my Reverb. love it.
  16. The concept of ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) would tell you that's not true. The fact that you bought a product with a perpetual license is more of a reason for them *not* innovate. After all, they already "got" your money. While this has been hashed before, I would happily pay for a subscription. They could keep the free tier, or have 3, 5, 10, all you can eat plane model. Basically a tiered service. And they could even let you check in and out different models on a monthly rotation. You couldn't do it every day, but on a monthly basis, let you try something new.
  17. I wouldn't bet against it. It was only 7 years ago that I got my DK1 and said "wow, but I wish I could see more clearly" And here we are with the likes of Reverb. Also, in terms of cost, I've been flight sim'ing since the 80's. And the computer I always wanted was *always* $3,000 or more. When it was 8088, I wanted a 286. Then the 20MHz (lol) version of it. Then hard drives (again, lol), Then 386, 486, Pentium, etc.etc. And every time, the rig I priced out but could never afford was over $3,000. I don't think that will ever change. But VR in 5 years will be event more incredible. That, I'm sure.
  18. Much better. 256GB makes no sense these days. You'll love the load times. Have fun! And remember, you can just copy the entire folder and fire it up. Just make sure you edit the shortcut to point to the new SSD.
  19. Can you post a picture of your monitor configuration in the game? The setup menu where you can specify resolution, etc. I think something is wrong. Also, if you play in Window'ed mode, it slows down the game quite a bit. You want to check "maximize DCS" (or something close to it) in the setup menu. Also, it looks like you're running into this. So have a look at this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4177085&postcount=1
  20. I had the 5K+. From a build quality, Reverb much better. FoV, no question Pimax wins hands down. But the software of Pimax is *nowhere* near other competitors. Oculus is the best in terms of software quality, then WMR devices. Pimax (as of 6 months ago) were still very much work in progress. If you are a tinkerer or have some computer knowledge, it's not a problem. But if you're new to computers, it could pose a challenge. Finally, the smoothness of Pimax (again, 6 months ago, because I sold it then) was far from perfect. It was good enough for me, but I'm quite used to VR. There were times when I had to close my eyes because I knew I was going to hit judder. But at the time, DCS itself was going through a lot of changes. So things could have changed quite a bit. I know my Reverb become glassy smooth (smoother) recently. To sum up, if you are the type that needs polished, commercial grade equipment, Pimax will probably disappoint. If you don't mind tinkering a bit, you'll like Pimax. My dream HMD would be Pimax's FoV with Reverbs clarity, headphones, and comfort. Maybe 8K will fit that bill.
  21. Have a look at this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=218861 Or you can use the mouse, that works well for lot of people. You can also assign left and right mouse buttons to a controller, joystick/button boxes. I don't have the S, but most devices have enough gap in the nose so that you can peak through the bridge of your nose. Some people say it breaks immersion, but for me it doesn't.
  22. I don't know of any. But if they are a modder, I'm guessing they already have one? If anyone fits the description, feel free to email me.
  23. If you haven't already, check out Bunyap's Down the Range series on YouTube. Go to the playlist and you'll see the A10C specific tutorials. They are excellent. Also, if you haven't tried VR, it'll change your DCS life.
  24. If you're suffering, I'm guessing you have a CPU bottleneck. 2080Ti will handle Reverb just fine. I did zero tweaking. Well, I do have Process Lasso but that's about it.
