Decision time - Index v Pimax 5k+ (or wait 8kX)
hansangb replied to DavidE's topic in Virtual Reality
I'd take a serious look at HP's Reverb. I had the Pimax5K+ and sold it on ebay. The wider FoV was great, but HP's resolution won over. They iterated the PiTools software often, so I'm sure they are making progress. But WMR and Reverb is very polished now. Also, you'll be fine with one base station. I used it and got compete 6DOF in DCS. Unless you are going to be doing room scale stuff, you certainly don't need two base stations for DCS. The laser lightning stuff leads the pack in tracking. -
I would go a step further by de-lidding the CPU's heat shield. See: https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/collections/complete-delid-relid-kit-for-i7-8700k On my system, there was a significant temp drop by replacing the thermal paste the comes with the cpu. That is, if the OP is worried about heat.

When you play DCS, do you do see a little SteamVR title on the deskopt? You should see the "hamburger" setup (three horizontal lines) in the title. You can get to setup from there. Or, click on the Start menu and just type "steam" and you should see SteamVR.

Yeah, there was a YT video of FPS in VR. And the testing showed that for 2D, memory speed made no difference (nothing that mattered) but it did in VR. I wish I could find it :(

So giant fire extinguisher duct taped to the back isn't it? :D Also, (maybe this was already discussed) but the RIO of tic tac videos also came forward.

Four days ago, I got to start up DCS for the first time in months. And I had to give the Viper a try as well as the new Warthog cockpit updates. And I couldn't believe how smooth Reverb was in the Viper/PG map. I left after as default and didn't tweak a thing. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to make a through the lens video like I did with my pimax5K this weekend. PS: It's so weird seeing the joystick on the right, very odd!

Enjoy!!

Also, look at Voice Attack (or the DCS specific companion Vaicomm that's built on top of VoiceAttack. May help when flying in your Pimax.

If Chernobyl is any example, I doubt any info will be forthcoming.

Why couldn't it like how we treat bacteria? Or ants. How much time do you think about stepping or not stepping on an ant? There are people who have ant farm toys, people who study insects, but as a general rule, no one *cares* about the ants, right? And no, I think the Prime Directive is just a nice plot from Star Trek.

The "until the stigma is removed..." part is spot on. Until that happens, it's too easy to deflect by invoking the little green men.

A letter from several Chinese DCS palyers - 19 August 2019

Isn't that like equating breaking the speed limit as a same level of crime as a robbery? Sure both are against the law, but there are shades of "crime" -
And in terms of speed for DCS, there is no user palpable difference between SSD and NVMe.

Not shipping until Sept. Even for the reviewers because they didn't want to give a preproduction units to the reviewers. And they won't sell it separately yet, but it may change in the future.

I loved that show, coast to coast AM. He had a way of making the nutjobs that called in seem like normal. :D

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
hansangb replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
It's easier if you line up the displays in Windows because DCS uses X and Y coordinates that start from the top left corner. You can keep your setting as is, so long as you specify the correct Y axis for your middle monitor. This has the step by step instructions I wrote a while ago. If you still need help, just post the LUA file that you are using. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2616874&postcount=799 -
I chose the goggle style from VR-LENS. This way, I don't have to keep buying inserts as I change HMDs.

1TB Dedicated SSD Enough
hansangb replied to iKyrThraad993i's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I hear you. The first SSD was 128GB for me :) And why I have a 512GB NVMe and 1GB SSD. I'm guessing the 1TB NVMe's have come down quite a bit. -
The picture seemed like it was an extension for the throttle. I guess we'll find out next week.

Empirical evidence would suggest otherwise. Pilgrims left Europe and took on the Atlantic knowing that they will most likely die and not come back. Today, it's a 7 hour flight with no fanfare. In a matter of 600 years, what was a life risking journey became a ho-hum flight. If a civilization can master interstellar travel, I don't think they would worry about the stuff you noted.
-
Let's not bring race into this discussion. i keed...i keed! :D Can you imagine what it would be like if we could talk to another civilization that mastered interstellar travel? It'd be like us talking to people of during the Egypt's pyramid building days.

1TB Dedicated SSD Enough
hansangb replied to iKyrThraad993i's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
250GB? How you live Bit? :D I keep my two 4GB magnetic HDs just to do backups of my SSD. But I could never use mag HDs for anything other than that! These large drives sure make us lazy doesn't it? Every once in a while I break out WinDirStat to get rid of large redundant files (of which there are many!)
