Some of the multiplayer servers seem to be hosted online through a service provider. After searching the threads, it seems that help in setting up a server is applied for say if I set up my 3rd computer as a host in my house. I am curious though, how would one set up a server through an online provider? Like servers being hosted for say Arma, BF4, etc etc. I have all the modules but I dare say, all I would need to do is install dcs world onto an online hosting server. Is this at all possible or is a 3rd computer here in my house the only possible option

F-15E pilot recommended A-10 for this fight
Winfield_Gold replied to leafer's topic in Military and Aviation
A-10's have proved successful against 1960's technology. Russia has indeed sold quite a bit of equipment since the 1960's to many countries around the world. If there is a war between 2 countries, chances are a majority of the weapons used would be both American engineered and Russian Engineered. Let's see how is fares against technology developed in the last 20 years. Russia has come along away since the early 90's. Like any good business, you never sell off your assets with the latest technology. Hence, the A-10 has proven itself against old inferior weapons. In Iraq (1st Gulf War) the tanks it destroyed were mostly abandoned, once the bombs started falling, the Iraqi's didn't bother shooting back, they surrendered themselves to the first nato forces they came across. Yes the A-10 proved itself in the 1st gulf war with out a doubt if you read the hype and how many mechanized vehicles it blew to bits. Due to the sanctions placed on Iraq, they had very few weapons left, especially in the way of armour. By the time the 2nd Iraq conflict came about, there were very few tanks for it to kill other than the odd ZSU and what not. Yes it proved itself in the 2nd Iraq war (or so you are lead to believe) In Afghanistan however, how many tanks have you seen the a-10 blowing up? how many mechanized vehicles have you seen the a-10 blowing to bits? Most common SAM's are unguided RPG's, Afghanistan rebels can't afford the decent Russian weapons with latest technology. If Russia went to war with the west, and considering Russia's technology in this day and age, the A-10 would be useless as troops would not be as close together fighting on the ground as they were against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Russian fighter jets and missiles would not allow the A-10 to get any where near close enough to be useful. So what is a 30mm Cannnon with 1150 rounds good for in a battle where both super powers are evenly matched? -

I agree, not much point spending millions on a human controlled cas plane when 2 or 3 drones at 1\8 the cost could do the same tasks. -

Just because the A-10 can fly slower and stay on station longer, does not mean it is a better cas asset when troops are under fire. For example, you would actually be surprised how many cas missions were cancelled in Afghanistan using Apache's. Mainly because they either were not able to determine the enemy from the friendly troops or because firing on the enemy meant that friendly troops could also be compromised from air attacks. Most of the time, the choppers where used as a deterrent in the hope the enemy would break off contact. This is an aircraft that can hover and has basically the same thermal imaging vision that the A-10C has. -

Thanks nebuluski, That's what I thought

Is it possible to set a depth for the submarines in the mission editor? I'm unable to find a post other than the ASW script for this. I want Kilo class to stay under the water, follow 2 waypoints and surface in a port, is this possible or are surface only vessels in the sim

Anyone had a look at it since 1.2.8? looks awesome. maybe combined arms could be getting an upgrade in the near future with some revamped models. EDIT: Ground and sky also look sweet
-
What you have posted but I have found about 160 knots is bang on the money. full Airbrake extended EDIT, Depending on the overall weight of the aircraft, fuel load, weapons etc

After watching this video and considering Australia is also set to receive delivery of the F-35 by 2017. The F-22 and F-35 should be scrapped. Well over budget and the superhornet was found to be useless in air to air combat. Hornet should only be used as a replacement for CAS only missions, obviously no good in air to air or dog fights. US are adament they have the best military planes in the world, however in a combat scenario, I would much rather be in a Russian fighter. EDIT: i'll add that the B2 Spirit is probably just as useless considering it shares the same technology and stealth technology with it's JSF cousins

OCB guys use to run missions where you flew to an outer marker beacon. It would beep when you were close to it. Once on the marker it would beep continuously. Missions where mainly CAS type but after the mission was completed, you had to fly to another beacon and circle there until the next task came up. This is before their server went awol. Probably not morse code and it was set up with zones, I think this is still related to the topic though.
-
beacons yes, as a messaging system no it would work well for pilots such as ILS or hold pattern beacon but not to transmit actual messages. In this day and age with locked frequency's and coded radios, it's mainly only used between ships or ammatuer radio enthusiasts.

I'd ask if it could have countermeasures fitted to it

I love the shadow effects, especially the one with the vehicles. Even the side mirror casts a shadow over the bonnet.

Thought EDGE was upgrading to DX10 from DX9, didn't think it was supporting DX11 -
Bloody awesome, hopefully down the track this will be implemented on AI aircraft such as the UH-60 and CH-47, Would be good to have large helo's sling load arty guns, hummers and the like :)

As hcf said, I also have the TGP on left MFD and mav on right. i left that out. keyboard shortcut to automatically slew mav to tgp is to hold "v" with the mav mfd set as SOI. I don't use keyboard keys to slew anything, it's set up on my stick so I don't use keyboard much at all. when it comes to guided munitions, you will need to change the tgp to target a point not STP. Otherwise you will only end up dropping bombs on the waypoint markers that might be worded wrong but you will know you are on a win when the hud lower left says TGP not STP
-
interesting. on the TGP press Right ALT + left arrow key once on the keyboard which will change the thermal settings from white hot to black. Targets will usually be much easier to find as they show up white on black background. then press use ; . , / to find a target with the TGP, once you found a tank use right control + up arrow for about 3 seconds which will change the spi to tgp, this changes the TGP from steerpoint to the target you are looking at. bring up the MAV MFD and set it as SOI. hold "v" on the keyboard and it will slew the maverick to the target that you are looking at with the TGP, if you just press "V" once it will zoom the maverick mdf closer to the target, press it again and it zooms out. on the maverick MFD you will see SLEW on the right side and it's default to 5, press 8 on the front centre console and then press on the mfd button next to the 5 for the maverick, it slows the slew rate for the maverick down and makes it easier to manually slew the maverick to targets closer to the TGP target. 1 last thing, when you slew the maverick to the TGP you will have the crosshairs focused on the target, you need to manually move the maverick slew just a touch to get it to lock on if it does not lock on. Just 1 touch of either the , / ; . when the maverick is set as SOI is usually enough and if you are in range. Not sure what joystick you have, so I added the keyboard functions.

Old as this thread, but still no solution has been updated. Only way I managed to get it working in 1.2.7

Let's not bag out a 3rd party dev that meets deadlines and has released modules. I completely object to seeing BST bagged out or put in the same context as other 3rd party devs who have said release dates and not been able to meet them.
