Scorch You might want to try setting up a new custom snap view thats gets you closer, then use the zoom. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216344 You will then need to also bind this snap view button as seen here.

When there is no massive war going on etc. You don't max load up the jet for carrier ops. The f14 would only take up 2 x 54 etc. Not 6 and drop them for landing. For the sim, sure drop them like they would have to if you cannot keep min fuel needed.

Making DCS more accessible to new players.
David OC replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
You can find all Cap's videos in the Guides section for each aircraft. I play on a hard core server and , not by the book. We do teach in other voice channels, but will not help people that wont help themselves at all. Your blowing this out of perspective I think. ED knows there is a gap here, the ones that just want to blow things up and not learn what vor/tacan navigation is. and that's called MAC. I made a , even simpler than Cap's vids do. For those who are thinking about trying it out, but think DCS is to hard to setup or there PC is not good enough. The videos are to get the ones that then understand what there really getting into. -
Make sure your mapping the F-18 (SIM) controls. If that's what you are binding. There are two different controls, sim and game etc.

Making DCS more accessible to new players.

and that's why they should learn to fly and play around with the FREE TF-51 etc. Not many do........., then come online and ask (Hard core server:music_whistling:) How do I shoot X, or how do it start X. Many that buy the cool F/A-18, F-16 etc just want to be good at it, get frustrated. Nothing we can do a about that, the community has 1000s of helpful content online for X aircraft, we cannot help some that doesn't understand this will take some time and learning (repetition) to nail things down for X aircraft. Many also buy more then they can chew and want to be good at them all in a week. -
No need to "Save" it will auto save once set. When you save, you can save each column. Highlight column "throttle" and save as Warthog throttle. Highlight stick column and save as Warthog stick. The only time I do this type of save, is to import them to the FC3 aircraft. They are all very much the same. Setup one aircraft then import each control column section to the rest of them. Most just take a full save of the Save game folder. C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Saved Games\DCS beta etc Make sure you are setting up the F/A-18 sim and not game. unless using game. If switching you will need to setup both. Or list YOUR game setup and what exactly what you are doing. Not seeing this happening on the forum from anyone else.

Making DCS more accessible to new players.
David OC replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
There is no correct answer here, it takes time and many (especially these days) want instant satisfaction. They get frustrated that it's not like other AAA titles. Some cannot comprehend it takes a long time to really master. Especially online, we do help new guy's. But we also get how do you start the 25T quite a bit online and that's why you also get RTFM. It's also why I did a few videos on that also shows me setting up the controls. What more can we do to spoon feed, when many just want to be real good in a very hard and dynamic sim in a week or month lol. So for me that's how you make it easier. Explain to them that this will take some time to be half proficient, yes you will need to RTFM. Basic flight, Systems, weapons, weapon systems, tactics, team work online etc. LOTS to learn sorry about that. -
Your pc is a very good mid range pc and good for very mild VR. It would run all the vr games on the rift store for sure. DCS and fight sims in general are all the way at the other end of that scale and takes balancing out the system vs eye candy. Even with a 9900K and 2080ti, reverb etc. You should always ask. We have a hardware section here and many will say what to expect with X pc. The RTX 2060 Super 8GB is more geared towards 1080P / 1440p gaming and light VR. Flight sims you generally always want to overclock to gain some FPS. Lower your settings and in the VR tab increase the pixel density (PD) until you can read the gauges. I run the old rift at 1.5, the new one is better. Not sure what new S should run that at. Ask in the VR section perhaps.

UGRADE TO A 500gb SSD or go to 32gb RAM
David OC replied to xXMustangXx's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
SSD Just to give you an idea on the sort of loading times you've been missing out on all this time.... If your not going to re-setup windows on this drive and DCS (It is recommended) Then just install DCS to the drive and also make it your new page file location also. -
Should use some real word. Its not easy spotting and hard make it to easy for far away spotting and not be gamey i guess. Close to med in is good, this is at 1440p to give an idea. This is also what is missing, a good talk on and or team mate's for ww2. It would be hell and impossible to spot by your self in a ww2 aircraft IRL. Maybe make the all seeing ai wing man call out 2 oclock low, 3 miles. Go to 5 minutes.

Multiplayer Tracks, what are they for, do I need to keep them?
David OC replied to SC86's topic in General Tutorials
I believe this still works. Just make a (autoexec.cfg) file in. C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Saved Games\DCS.beta etc\Config Use notepad or notepad++ etc disable_write_track = true and yes delete them. -
Hi res, hi FPS VR focus in year 2021
David OC replied to Leaderface's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There was still a reason why they have and spent mega dollars developing sli for VR use right. Good clear military and civi training etc. So you can have max performance with x hardware that can and does utilize 2 x Quadro RTX 8000, 48G. At 10K AUD, it's cheap compared to the full simulators they build etc. Consumers need to wait for better hardware to help offload. "eye tracking to enable foveated rendering and dynamic focus" I'm also sure ED will do everything possible to help. The way I look at it is trying to run 3 screens at 1440p @ 90 fps etc No gpu can do that in a sim, even with the latest sim engines and our high end consumer cards. -

David OC replied to Leaderface's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's not even funny. You cannot compare these. How about a more real world test to where ED wants to go with the sim. How about X-Sim with mid to high pc specs and high settings (ortho4xp). New Vulkan beta (yes Vulkan) 23 to 30 fps. This is also with better weather (less fps etc) which ED will also be doing. Remember for the reverb 2160 x 2160 per eye!! 3 screen example is only 1920x1080 x 3 => 5760x1080 resolution = 6,220,800 pixels generated eye tracking to enable foveated rendering and dynamic focus Exactly what I've been saying, it's not just on ED to make VR move forward and be more practical on a half decent VR pc. As seen in the X-sim video. -

Compare dcs to anyother game thats comparable? View distance speeds etc. I cannot think of one. Your still limited by the gpu really. The sli was a hardware reference and rift api ability. It would be cood IF it could use it etc. Not that it will. What happens when we hit 4k? Still ed or also the vr dev hardware problem also? What aaa title and what scenes? So in my opinion it's not just ed. If the hardware hits 4k plus. They also need to 1 build a 5080ti or do some hardware trickery, foveated rendering etc. So only the eye point, like in real life is high res etc. Not the full screens. And I'm not saying ed cannot get more out of dcs tho, still they can only do so much with a large sim. And by the way nvida does allow for vr sli type of thing. The vr manufactures do not https://developer.nvidia.com/vrworks/graphics/vrsli Works with Vulkan also if implemented. -

When they fix it? You mean make it more optimized where possible. DCS was never designed around vr like the small vr games in the vr store, no or little ai, missile logic, weapon logic, ballistic logic etc. Even the other sim with vr have little going on compared to dcs. It will always be a bit of a balance for vr, ED will do there best and the vr tech needs to improve also to allow fo very large dynamic worlds. Dcs is by far the largest most dynamic and straining vr game out there, so it will most likely use and eat up the best tech you can throw at it, now and over the coming years as vr displays improve even more. Hopefully the hardware can take some of the load off in the future and not just rely on dev's constantly chasing there tail. Things like sli would make sense for vr etc. Run two 2080ti's one per eye. That sounds expensive lol. -
Dcs not updating after a fresh install on new SSD

"Gigabyte GeForce GTX1660Ti OC 6GB GDDR6" This card will only be OK... at 1080p. It's as good as the top card 2 generations ago etc. 980ti https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660-Ti/3439vs4037 I would go a 2060 super or better (2070 super) myself and would allow mild VR and or 1440P monitor. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060S-Super-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660-Ti/4049vs4037 I would also go with a better and more powerful power supply for overclocking a little, but that's just me.

Upgrade your PC..? (No idea what pc you have) Does it reach the new min spec and run ok. Upgrade your PC GPU drivers (No idea what drivers you are running) Upgrade your PC to the latest DCS version (No idea what version you have running now) Try a repair on DCS and reset (clean out) your (Fxo) and (Metashaders2) folders. DCS will rebuild these when launching a mission. (Will take longer to load) find them here. C:\Users\YOUR USE NAME\Saved Games\DCS

It is a hard niche thats why no one does it anymore and make $. Thats why ED subsidizes their income building civi and military training sims i.e A-10c, mi8 etc. Thats also why they are so detail and thats also what most want here. Mac is possibly what some want. Bit more than w thunder etc. If ed didn't have contracts also, all this would possibly not be a thing. EA is another income source of course to keep more engineers working on making the consumer side better. Aircraft and core improvements possibly. Example -
