I started with the A-10C with a single joystick. (Not easy) The A-10C and many fighters. F/A-18, F-16 etc all use HOTAS. hands on throttle-and-stick. You will need to use the modifiers in game. Left hand was on the keyboard arrow-keys (Set to slew) Hold right shift + joy hat = TMS Hold right Ctrl + joy hat = DMS Hold right Ctrl + Arrow keys = Coolie hat Hold right shift + Arrow keys =???? Buttons close by insert, home, page up / down. etc set these up to......? I don't have the exact replica "warthog" my hotas is setup as close as I could get it. Now it all comes down to practice and muscle memory. It becomes second nature after some time. You as I did will have to unlearn what you have learned (yoda) lol. Once you get a hotas. It's still worth learning and understanding what and how the systems all work tho. Start with going through Chucks A-10C guide and .The A-10C ones, not (A-10A FC3). Just keep it simple at the start and let it sink in, land, takeoff, autopilot hold etc. Gun runs. Ask away if you have problems, need ideas for setup. This is me showing for an example and ideas. You will also need to write out the configuration / change to suit you. Here is one I found on the forum. To use this YOU will need to add these base buttons as a modifier ( ) when held in DCS (Not a switch) 7,8,9,10,11,12

I still have the older thrustmaster t.16000m, just the stick . The problem is the lack of hats, for the fighters, A-10C etc. It's a great first stick. I then bought the CH HOTAS system. The CH Fighterstick still works and has all the hats!. Now using VKB Pro, still with the CH pro throttle. I replaced the potentiometer in the throttle with a good one, now it's much better.

You can copy and paste DCS folder as much as you want to anywhere any drive (SSD Better). IF you have room? Then convert them to ANY version you wish, even older ones. The DCS.exe and DCS_Updater.exe are separate and found in the bin folder. Link to these etc. Right click and add shortcut to desktop etc. Rename. If you are going down that path you should use Skatezilla's App. Tie all the builds into the app first, then change, install whatever and launch in VR, no VR etc. You can even copy the save games folder (Rename) and re-assign the one you wish to use for THAT install etc. Of course you can just use it to switch the one build back and forth from Stable to Beta.

It's not about perfection it's about being consistently safe in a very DYNAMIC environment. Please STOP relating to other sim's. DCS models much deeper and way more realistically. Which is a blessing and a curse lol. Because we don't get the same feeling a pilot gets, so we rely on sight / movement more and adapt to suit this. It takes a lot of practice! We use the TF-51 for base and farp repairs online. So hard to get to and sometimes on sloping hills sides. I posted this for you at the start, did you read it? Page 2 A very generous flight instructor wrote here on the forums about how to fly these aircraft, as many did struggle at the start. Top of the Spitfire thread. Essay 1, 2 and 3 So, Learn to just fly the damn plane! lol Quick video for you of just flying the damn plane!;) This is the FREE TF-51 that comes with DCS and the sim is set to Simulation in the options, so (TF-51 Real) aircraft controls are bound / used. (It's in video 2) Watch how much forward stick I use at times (See indicator bottom left) to stop her pitching up to much and stalling. Keep her flat to get speed. Watch the real , see how flat he holds her to gain speed. No zooming up. Yes, turn off those settings, it was messing me up with it on. Not the P-51 But watch how much forward stick on takeoff to keep her down!

Manly because DCS is trying to walk forward and update, at the same time transform old coded sections to new. Some possibly not commented and people have left. It's a very hard place to be at trying to slowly transform an old sim to new, while keeping all the old stuff functioning properly each build. It reminds me of the 3rd gen blockchain I follow and the CEO of IOHK input output hong kong. Charles Hoskinson (mathematician) They decided to rewrite from the ground up (6 Years) and coped a lot for doing that, because the speculators want it out now to make $. It will now be one of the most advanced tho. This was one of his latest video's. Love this guy, can talk on vid's for hours lol.

DCS stuttering from high disk usage
David OC replied to Gargoyle1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Mine is set to min size 32768 max size 32768 Set to E drive. Make sure it's using an SSD for the page file, not the old mechanical drive. Yep, having windows on an SSD or M.2 would help too. I run windows on the M.2 nvme just to be sure it has everything. -
Is there any free training materials please
David OC replied to nikyboy's topic in New User Briefing Room
Civi Download the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge Airplane Flying Handbook Many more there. Mil F-16 Combat Aircraft Fundamentals -
Yep, To see how better it is, I first duck taped a (half) broom stick to a TM1600 to just see what it would be like. A LOT more control. Now I have the VKB Gunfighter 200mm. Makes for a huge difference with choppers and aircraft. Good balance around the 200mm if your into both.

Three monitor setup no recognized by DCS
David OC replied to CTBlankenship's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thats more to setup use 3 like that. Its for looking out a side window etc. Just change the resolution to 3 x 24 1920 x 3 5760 x 1080 rez selected You may need to organise the monitors in windows. 1 2 3 i think. Just drag them in windows setup. -
Again, here is me setting up the TF-51 for an example. This video also shows how to taxi and use the rudder to steer or free caster and use left / right brakes. You can even switch to the "category" to search and type in "Wheel brakes" etc See me do that also in the video above. 10:55 If you launch a free flight etc, it will be at the correct "Aircraft controls" under control options. If you do it from the menu, you need to select the aircraft to modify.

DCS updater not updating and only showing in Task Manager
David OC replied to Akula's topic in Installation Problems
Try using the DCS Updater GUI Utility (This will not work for steam versions) Once you setup this app and point it to your DCS install location. Run the repair first. Then hit the update. Great app, you can even install modules and look after many DCS versions. -
Stutter in DCS World with AMD Enhanced Sync on
David OC replied to Cy-27's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A little more info about your system is needed for others with this setup to help. CPU, Ram and speed What AMD drivers are you using and what are all the settings etc. You could also PM Der Hirte He has an AMD setup. Click on his name and send a message. Edit Also post your DCS settings set. SSAA should be OFF MSAA x 2 -
Not sure about the 4K vs 3 screens. To me that's more than 4K to run. 2560 x 3 = (7680) x 1440 So like you wrote, should be similar / comparable I guess. The fish eye effect is just field of view (FOV) You can see the default fov in DCS when you hit Left Control Pause, twice. Once more to turn off. You can set a new FOV with zoom and save it. Pause trackir, set zoom, then hold Right Alt and hit Num pad 0. This will save the new FOV. You can also set a new camera position too. See me do that here. You can see me exaggerate the fish eye by zooming way out to see more on my 2560 x 1440. Something I found on YouTube Calculate fov http://carsfov.moritzlawitschka.de Looks like around 70 fov when your sitting 500mm back from your setup.

Here is a video I made showing how you can list your parts you have now. This will help us know what you have. Seems not to bad depending on DCS options set. Post your pc specs and DCS graphic settings will help.

Hi Wartooth, This is best put under the tucked away VR selection Input and Output » Virtual Reality You will find many discussions about all the VR gear, including the Vive. I could only find this post with some info, it's a little old tho. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3699005#post3699005 I have a Rift so never set one up. Perhaps just start a new thread, someone with one should be able to help with settings for how DCS is now, many upgrades since that old post above. Gives you an idea of all the settings to play with. Also start with the VR pre set under the options and work your way up. It's always a balance with VR between eye candy, mission size, graphic settings. DCS is one of the largest VR sim/games available. Not built for VR from the ground up like in the little games in the VR stores. So large DCS Mission / Campaign lower settings etc. The big ones for VR for me under options. PD setting (I use 1.5 old rift), Preload radius around middle, Visibility range Medium to high.

My advice is to not use game mode and learn to fly DCS like you fly real aircraft. DCS is as real as it gets for simulation. More so then those other sims in my opinion. I posted this video for you on the 1st page, it walks you through setting up controls, wheel brakes. You will find the axis brakes under the "axis category" Also make sure the flaps are all the way up, they are down when cold starting and prop pitch full forward. This video also shows how to taxi and use the rudder to steer or free caster and use left / right brakes. You don't really pull up with this aircraft unless you want to die when taking off, when she is ready to fly she will. (110 mph ish) Most of the time you might even need a little forward stick to not let her pitch up and stall out. (Roll left and crash) This is a very powerful taildragger and simulated very accurately, many good men did die just taking off, when trying to learn to fly these types of aircraft. This is how you learn to fly a taildragger, in real life. I also recommend you read the ESSAY'S that a generous flight instructor wrote here on the forums about how to fly these aircraft, as many did struggle at the start. Top of the Spitfire thread. Essay 1, 2 and 3 See how to turn off force feedback and set DCS to simulation below. Take your time with DCS, it's more of a learning curve than those other sim's. Many of the flight models are way more advanced, so can be more unfriendly than many are used to. That's why it's great and very rewarding experience once you start to get in the groove. We like that it's hard and as close to real life as you can get on a PC.:) Chucks guides is also a great starting point. Tutorial Library

It's much worse lately for some reason? When you get close to another aircraft, everyone starts to warp all over the place.

You can also have a look at pre built systems and then review each part online if you are going to build one. Example https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/category/gaming-pcs/ You could look into getting your local pc shop to get the parts and build it. Should only cost a few hundred £ for them to build. Come up with a bit of a list and post them here. The system BitMaster posted will run VR. Your going to need a good system (I.E. 2080 super minimum) to run that screen at a good steady 60 frames per second (FPS).

Just to help with a little visual (Example only). You set this up in windows also, then keep adjusting / moving screens positions to suit Y=** etc.

Others cannot see my server
David OC replied to strikerdg's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
I would post this down in the "Multiplayer Server Administration" Area strikerdg Don't know enough about it, post exactly what you have and i'm sure the guy's that do this all the time could help. No, the server should be up and running then others can join using ip. The server I sometimes use just disappears from the server list at times. -
You could see if this works In-Game Scratchpad Mod https://github.com/rkusa/dcs-scratchpad

Others cannot see my server
David OC replied to strikerdg's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
I have seen this from time to time on the server I play on. If I don't see the server I can generally connect using the "Connect by IP" button It will auto fill the last server you used and just hit connect. Otherwise post your IP address, we use discord. Not saying there isn't something wrong, just see if that works. -
Hi Neil and welcome I enjoy the fighter sims more these days and learning all the different systems and tactics + all the things you may face.:( It's also quite fun getting together online and battling it out, ground and air in DCS with a few friends. If you need any help with setup or aircraft, ask away, many here in the forum that are happy to help. For specific things for said aircraft, your better off posting in that aircraft section.

Hi Otrman, Take a look at this video I made setting DCS up using a single stick to see what's involved and perhaps help get you up to speed quicker. The more controllers will add more vertical columns. Pedals, throttles etc.

How to tie the mouse cursor to the Oculus Rift s helmet
David OC replied to Odin386's topic in New User Briefing Room
hp reverb, valve index, pimax all need quite a beast to run with good settings. Always a balance with VR. Middle ground I believe is the Rift S. 1280 x 1440 pixels per eye Always ask your questions about pc's or VR under "PC Hardware and Related Software" section of the forum. "Input and Output » Virtual Reality" I know your keen to get going and all, just take your time to learn a little about the setups and experience others have had to help with direction, many here to help you. Your quest has better rez on paper than the Rift S. BUT "Uses video compression and decompression to pass image data over smaller bandwidth USB3.1" I guess that could be the problem. Try turning up the PD (pixel density) setting under the VR tab, see if this can help for now. I run PD 1.6 with the old CV1. You may need to turn things down the higher you go. view distance high etc.
