I am happy about the maps location, but I am sincerely hoping that streching it over time (As done with Nevada and PG) is planned or an option. Having the map stretch east far enough at least to the Rhine area will allow players who are in historic groups as well as map makers to make plausible setups going all the way to the end of the war. I am assuming that with two westfront maps now on the table, it will be a long while until the region is revisited again. That makes it all the more important to have this map extent to the area of the low countries, to facilitate operations such as Market Garden, The Ardennes and the battle for the Rhine, finally giving us a map that caters to our actual planeset as well. Having the map go a tad North to include at least the tip of East Anglia would allow proper bombing/escort missions, truly making the map a worthy successor and continuation of Normandy. Here's to hoping.

This is a WW2 specific map, as stated numerous times (Just to remove all doubt (And maybe hopes). That means, you CAN fly modern aircraft there, but runways will generally be too short, and you will lack modern tech, navaids, tacan etc. This is contrary to the Marianas map, which is CONFIRMED to be released with two versions- WW2 and modern.

Flying on mission and seeing contacts on the scope, it is really frustrating to spam 'lock enemy contact' only to hear 'unable' dozens of times until a lock can be made. While I understand that has to do with the parameters needed for Jester, he should be able to understand a simple message like "Lock up the first enemy contact you get!" without having to navigate the Jester wheel and spam the command continously. Yesterday I was in a MP mission with multiple red contacts on our nose. Awacs was blabbering and we were deconflicting with a second flight of Tomcats on SRS. It has a Jester wheel nightmare. Perhaps it could be under 'contract' as this could be agreed between the pilot and RIO given the specific mission. Hope to see something to this effect implemented.

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
I thought that the Newsletter P1 and P2 were all round FANTASTIC. I am long time DCS user and I have never been more excited about long awaited features that are now lining up. Thank you ED! However, there is one thing that 'slightly' concerns me until I get clarification. Unlike some other here, being a Westfront geek, I love the idea of the Channel map. Like everyone else, I would LIKE it to merge with Normandy, but I understand it is due to tech issues. No matter I will buy it either way due do detailed UK and the scenarioæs it opens up- BUT. Wags said numerous times specifically that the map would be 1930's to 1945. And HERE is my concerns. What we westfront geeks would like, is to CONTINUE the course of the war, from Normandy, up through the low countries and to the Rhine, effectively to the end of the war (1945). However, the Low Countries that saw action in late 44 and 45 are not mentioned here (But they have been mentioed before, several times). A map coverage area or a confirmation/explanation here would go a long way (I will buy it no matter what) to confirm HOW we can use the map for historical scenarios. That being said, the Dover strait did indeed have action from 1940 to 1944, so you can get plenty of use out of it either way). It just would be so cool to have a map where you can make a historical campaign going from Dunkirk to Remagen. Hope for some more clarification soon. The screenshots are STUNNING and I can only image what it will look like with new lighting and clouds.. -

This will enable missions on the western air front from 1939-45 and is a FANTASTIC addition. The screens look amazing, hope it looks good at high altitude as well. -
The ground work but MBot and the extended PB0_CEF campaign are the main ways I fly single-player. Nothing beats. Apprieciate this work immensely!

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Looking great. I must admit I think that your last batch of WIP shots looked even better, as these seem more in line with the original (but with crisper textures). But it is just a matter of preferance. Either way it looks great and I look forward to seeing it done! :) -
For any Tomcat pilot flying EURO time zones, CVW-66 is recruiting Tomcat pilots and RIO's! Damn, you were right! The 'click' (that can be both felt and heard) was from the brand new Thrustmaster Hornet grip, while the 'squeek' is from the springs.
-
Thanks for the input fellas. Gives me some initial options. But yeah, I suspect it is related to the springs rather than the cams themselves.

Very happy with my T-50 base, however as of late, it's movement is not as smooth as it used to be. I can get an audible and tactile 'pop' (Feels like spring tension/stiction) when moving the stick, both in the X and Y axis. I have tightened, and loosened and retightened the 'pitch' and 'roll' screws on the base. The tension on the stick is fine- I just want smooth (and quiet) operation back. Anyone know what can be done here?

Excellent! Thank you!

I am setting up a scenario on the PG map, with Iranian aircraft patrolling the Iranian mainland in CAPS. However, as soon as BLUE aircraft start spawning, the IAF planes race across the Gulf to shoot them down. What do I need to have set to get them to defend themselves/the area they fly over rather than chasing the first enemy contact they get?

About the night lighting: Since this map specifically ONLY models pre- and post d-day (Hence no snow season), no building at all, should have night lighting, as war time black out would be in effect. I love the improvements, in the sense that they fixed what should have been done on first release. I still think that the colour palette is off, but I am willing to settle for the final desing aestetics. Nothing is perfect, and this is fine. However, the 'England improvements' of the hotfix are still a mystery to me, as I see no improvements whatsoever- not in field placement, forest shapes population centres or landmarks. Hoping that this will trickle in later. The map just went from a 'C' to 'B-', which I am rather satisfied with. Better late than never.

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
How are things going with this Barthek? Any more teaser shots?:D -
You are beating a dead horse. The map is finished and has been so for a long time. ED has stated several times that there are no plans to change anything on this map. With that said, I think the map looks pretty darn decent, sometimes stunning. But yes, the edges on the map have much lower detail. The map aims to make believable Red Flag scenarios and training doable, something it succceeds with to a large degree.

I'd am confident we will not get them this year. I am also confident that we will not see the Supercarrier, the WW2 Damage Model, or any new maps this year. The reason is simple. ED makes a lot of fuzz around major implementations before they launch. The only thing you have seen of the new clouds is a single screen capture, and there are like 3 weeks left of the year. I will bleed into next year. tbh I would not even expect them early next year. That is my opinion after monitoring and tracking DCS marketing og promotion cycle for some 8 years. I thought the Supercarrier would come with a pre-order date this weekend. It did not (But it looks great!), so bye bye 2019. I am guessing the clouds will start popping into various WIP pictures and promo vids in a few months before arriving.Maybe- MAYBE the first half of 2020. Then again, maybe not. We just don't have any info, therefore there is no reason to assume an impending release. I am not saying this to be negative. It is simply a friendly way of saying hold your expectations for a good while yet:).
-
I just can't see that happening at all. One simple screenshot and we are into the last month of the year. No teasers in any trailers. I can't wait for this feature, but I will be extremely surprised if we got our hands on it this side of New years..
