This and a couple more and you have a "pacific" scenario to fly the upcoming F-4's around.

When lining up for takeoff behind a jet, the heatblur from a jet in front will distort the HUD, as if the heatwaves were in fract in front of it. As far as I know it considers all aircraft.

[REPORTED] Spit gunsight glass disappear in the rain
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to AleCisla's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yup. But this is in fact true for most aircrafts with HUD's as well. THe edges of the glass dissappear in rain. -
DCS World 2.5.x Caucasus Terrain Textures
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Mustang's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
It is the best version yet, no doubt about that. -
Ok- more testing: Here is where I am at. Got things set up and working on the Hornet- however, when in the F-14, I can see that VA recognices my command and that I am transmitting on the right freq. FOr instance, when I say "Set scan 200", I can see in VA that that the command is recocnized, that the RIO is the reciepient and that I am transmitting on the intercom. However- I get no reply from Jester, no matter what I do. I have imported the commands for AIRIO into VAICOM pro. I have AIRIO enabled, with "show messages". But my commands don't generate a response.
-
Spent some time settings things up but could not get it to work. Will go though the whole thing from the beginning before I start asking more questions here- however- is it correct that Vaicom cancels out the RIO menu even when not loaded/running after installed? Closed down VA, fired up DCS to find I was no longer able to get the Jester wheel working. Would be nice to have it functional until I can set this thing up good and proper.
-
So.. what is going on here. I had vaicom working fine, before setting up a new computer. I reinstalled everything- got AIRIO- Imported the commands. I mapped 3 buttons (up for TX1, down for TX2, and forward for intertcom TX5) I downloaded all updates and generally seem to be good. I start up and it looks good like this. This is how I mapped things for the PTT But pressing the PTT buttons (all 3, gives me a "ploink-ploink" sound and and error, which terminates VAICOM (Not even able to enter the Plugin config after).

F-14B : OPERATION CAGE THE BEAR

Good presentation. Look forward try trying it out. Anything stopping me from editing this into COOP missions? (Will it break triggers etc?) -
If only there were more mission content
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Shibbyland's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
There are several very well done historical campaigns for sale (2 for Spitfire, 2 for the P-51). They are reasonably cheap, and cheaper when there is a sale. + There are a bunch of user made missions available here on the forums and on 'DCS User Files'. -
It is very unlikely that the "Strait of Dover" is an "...old wip name for Normandy". Back in Luthiers kickstarter, the map was always "Normandy", and has been called "Normandy" ever since. I find it very likely that Wags has the latest DEV build on his machine, which is why you can see recent, and yet to be released (F-16, Mi-24 etc) on his main menu. "Strait of Dover" is also a very inaproprate name for the Normandy map, as Dover is far off in the corner and not even modelled. Therefore, I find it at least well within reason to assume that one of the ww2 maps indeed is centred around Dover, and the "other end of the Channel". This makes sense for several reasons: 1: It is an iconic WW2 air combat location for obvious reasons. 2: It was the primary threatre for the Spit IX, The 190A, The Mosquito, the P-51 and P-47 for a long period. 3: If the map strecthes as far east as the border of Germany (The Rhine), it is also the natural habitat of the 190-D, The 262 and the 109K. If done right, this map could be the natural and perfect fit for the entire and planned stable (bar the F-4) of WW2 aircraft - which Normandy is not. It would also provide a future template for early war, Battle of Britain scenarios, should ED decide to model early war aircraft later. Let us all just hope that the bar is raised from the crayon/neon fields of Normandy to a more appropriate depiction of Western Europe.

Texture mod for Caucasus 2.5 terrain
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
+10,000. -
As many others, myself and my group use many of the excellent user made bomber mods to helo fill the wide gaps in the WW2 arsenal. However, I wondered if anyone could contribute with some knowledge to their best use, as I have made a few observations. I had little luck in setting up the "Big formation" with these bombers. I get them to align alright, but before long they start flying around randomly and break up the formation. What I ended up with was making a number of seperate formations with heigh variation, and this looked convincing enough, but the problems came when these modded bombers came under attack. THey start doing evasive action (Zoom climbing with the climb rate of jet fighters), even when they have "Rection to threat: Nothing/Passive defense). So in order for them to keep flying in a straight line, I had to change their task to "Nothing", but then they can't bomb (Not the biggest issue) and they don't fire back at attacking fighters. So- have anyone had any luck with this? Is it possible to set up modded bombers so that they fly straight, fire back, and generally behave like actual bombers? Is it possible to do something like this with a script? Have I missed something? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks for the tip:)

Is the F-14 working as multi-role over the Caucasus now? Eagerly awaiting multirole over the PG as well (I assume it is still CAP only?)

Don't know if you picked it up, but Wags announced that Hornet updates will now be a monthly thing. The JDAMS had some issues, so they are still under wraps. When this montly cycle will start I do not know:)

Not Ugra. Hope to see the bar raised considerably. I am a huge DCS and WW2 enthusiast, and this map have been my biggest dissapointment. Lots of sloppy work, cut/pasting, terrible colours, shimmering all over. The consumers pointed out a ton of small fixes that could be made to increase accuracy, and only a handful were ever used. Ironically, the colours of the pre-relase build (First spitfire trailer) is the best looking the map has ever been. At least there, the famous sandy airstrips of Normandy were the colour of sand They were deep brown for months into release until they were slighty brighter and more believable. The trees and fields had believable shading, despite being pre-release it looked incredible. Alas... Instead we got brick buildings in airfields in airfields that never had them. Missing concrete on the fields that HAD it. Airfields littered with trees and bushes. No winter season. The forest shapes alone is priceless (Seriously, have a look around in the F10 map). There are modders map made on ten years older sims that are far more accurate than this and they were free of charge, and no, it can not be blamed on the map tools. I could go on for pages with countless examples, but what is the use. I still fly there though- because I totally need to have the location for the airframes and missions that I fly. If a new western front map comes out, I will not be returning.

As mentioned, there are now multiple maps in the pipeline. As far as I know, they are the following Syria - (Ugra Media) Falklands (Razbam) Free modern map (ED- will be main focus after PG now is finished) WW2 Map 1- Unkown location (Developer?) WW2 Map 2 - Unknown location (Developer?) My question is- who are making the WW2 maps? ED? If so, it seems weird to be mentioned for a 2019 release lineup. ED use a long time on their maps, and are just now shifting into full steam with their FREE unknown map. While Syria looks to have come a long way, 2019 seems like a reasonable year for release, but seing as we are a quarter plus into the year with many of these maps location still secret and not revealed, are these even slated for this year? Is this something that is planned for the future? Who are the developers? It would be nice to know what to look forward to and have at least an idea (in years) of the timeframe and location of these maps.

Tomsk pruning tool (Performance enhancement script) should be sticked to the first page! These camps were giving me 15-20 fps, after using it, I got 45-60 fps.

Advanced Dynamic Weather
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Pâte's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
In a recent podcast with Wags he did mention the weather. They are working on a humidity engine, and when that is in place, the will work on clouds systems on top of that. Humididty will then affect vapes, shock cones etc. He did not give a timeline. Indeed it was one of my most sorely missed items on the 2019 roadmap. At this point, I wish for a new weather and cloud engine more than any other map or module. I would not expect it anytime soon though. ED market features months in advance and this has barely been mentioned (Like dynamic campaign, which still seems years away). I would not expect a new system implemented in the next couple of years (But that is just me). -

Thanks for the answer! Only CAP so far in 3 missions. (Played quite a few Hornet ones before) This is the first time that I have noticed a weather change in DCE though. Mission 3 was in a heavy storm- every single other DCE mission I have played have been sunny. Has there been a tweak to how weather is handled?

Now enjoying the "Tomcat over PG" campaign, with Tomsk's prune script working fine. Great stuff. I was wondering? What line do I have to edit to change my squadrons liveries? Currently all the F-14's fly CAG birds and I wan't to make some personal adjustments. Also- using the "Prune" script to great effect, is there are way to KEEP static airfraft, like those parked on the carrier, while still using the script to fulll effect? These campagins have been a huge boost to my enjoyment of offline DCS!

While waiting for the esteemed modders to tweak things a bit, I went into the mods/aircraft/F14/sounds/effects/aircrafts/cockpits folder. Here, I found the 4 files that has "ECS" in them. I opened them up in a simple sound editor (goldwave) and quadrupled (X4) the volume. I was very pleased with the result. You get a REALLY loud ECS (As per the SME's accounts), but you can still hear (barely) the engine whine, and button clicks below. All sounds are still audible, but the ECS totally domintates the soundscape now, as I think it should. You mileage may vary due to different sound levels set in DCS. I also use "Hear as in cockpit". Be sure to make a backup if you decide to try yourself.
