Razbam posted theses images of their upcoming South Atlantic map for DCS today. The fjords of southern Chile could be a decent stand in for northern Norway to build some missions for the Corsair while we wait for Pacific theatre maps and assets.
-
From Razbams Facebook page: The Strait of Magellan. The map grids continue to the east, thus South Georgia could indeed be covered...

Part 2 is up: F4U Corsair: Taming the beast

Bf 109 and Fw 190 bomb delay, as set in the cockpit via the armament control panel, was recently changed to 0.08s. Germans had fuses with a delay of several seconds for low level attacks, but apparently those could only be set by the ground crew. Hopefully we will get them back via an editor setting.

Some will come once the map will leave EA, hopefully with the big DCS update in march. List of new landmarks from the January newsletter:
-
That's actually done regularly IRL during exercises since the last few years. First aircraft landing there since 1947 was a C-130 in 2012.
-
I guess the WW2 version will come at the same time as EDs next WW2 plane after the Mosquito, which is rumored to be either the F6F Hellcat or some Japanese plane. The F4U by Magnitude and accompanying Essex class carrier will hopefully be released long before.
-
+1 For me this would be the perfect map for DCS. Almost every modern aircraft and many of the WW2 types would fit.
-
I really hope we will see some "Super Carrier style" WW2 carriers in DCS in the not too distant future. Would be a waste to code all theses possibilities and then use them only for modern ships. In WW2 a number of Marine Corps F4U-1D squadrons flew from four escort carriers during the time of the Okinawa campaign until the end of the war. USS Block Island (VMF-511), USS Gilbert Islands (VMF-512), USS Cape Gloucester (VMF-351) and USS Vella Gulf (VMF-513). All Commencement Bay-class ships.
-
The UK even flew their Apaches operationally from HMS Ocean during the 2011 intervention in Libya.
-
ED will drop Windows 7 support with next big open beta patch 2.7 in march. It is a sure bet that stable will be updated before to the last version of 2.5.6 within the next few weeks.
-
Keep an eye on this thread. As soon as the next stable update is scheduled they will let us know there.

A map with airfields and especially buildings everywhere that look like nothing that was there during WW2. Then I prefer to fly the I-16 on any other map that actually feels like 80 years ago.
-
That's an Pacific theatre FAA late war paint scheme, when the British Pacific Fleet supported the final push against Japan in 1944-45. It was intentionally kept as close as possible to USN schemes, especially without any kind of red in the roundels.

fixed Regular bombs fail to explode with delay fuze
Cunctator replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in Bugs and Problems
Have you tested this only on your server? In singleplayer (current OB) all bombs I've dropped with the MV setting explode fine. -
It sounds like you are doing an INS designation and your DMT is slaved to that designation. Thus you don't get the TV/ARBS lock symbology. As said above TV/ARBS contrast locking isn't really modeled, thus you can use both ways to designate a random spot on the ground, without a proper high contrast target required, and the difference is not as obvious as it would be in the real Harrier.
-
This was working very well (too well?) in the past. Perhaps a year or two ago. I could just turn around and re-attack the same target once it was designated with the DMT, maybe the new designation was maybe a dozen meters off, but it seemed reasonable. Now I mostly need to completely redesignate the target. Maybe it would be be better to post your findings in the "Problems and Bugs" section. I doubt it will receive much notice here.

That could be a nice future feature. Accumulated engine wear and tear during the course of campaigns, or select an engine state other than factory fresh randomly a mission start. Something similar to the birdstrikes or random systems failure options we have now. Maybe this could be done via an mission editor setting, where you can choose the number of hours the engine was already running in the past, with a consequently increased likelihood of failure when abused.

Discord certainly looks less time consuming to me. I can understand why it is a more attractive solution for small dev teams. It is universal communications platform that can also be used for internal and private talk and all kind of hobbies. Text messages or Voice. Just one window to see everything that is happening. One continuous chat for all things Harrier to monitor, where people write one or two sentences, instead of dozens of threads with long posts as in a forum.

Long ago ED posted a series of videos that demonstrate how maps are created with their terrain tools. However, they are almost six years old by now, so much could have changed in the meantime.
-
-
Indeed. I hope we will see many more Pacific islands maps in the future. Once ED has created a basic set of 3D models for vegetation and WW2 airfield buildings they should be able to to them with considerable less effort than the other DCS maps we've got so far.

They are answering questions daily on their discord. Just this forum isn't used as primary means to communicate with their user base anymore.
