  1. Just FYI there is no reason not to use the MFD's in VR. I use the Rift S and have the MFD's and they are great - much better to actually reach out and press the real buttons. Just put some reference markers around the edge of the MFD's (Foam, grip tape etc). After a while it becomes second nature and your hand to right to the correct spot.
  2. For those people who don't like the strap speakers and use ear buds instead (as I do), but think the faffing putting them in is a pain - just getting the full fighter pilot experience... At time 6:54
  3. Yes you are correct - Don't worry your post was very clear, some people are just very keen to 'correct' others here. Wags did say the first of the 'academic' videos would be released in July. "Stay tuned for the first academic video in July." Post - https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3965173&postcount=1
  4. Menu music downloaded and converted to .ogg - ready to go! Brings back so many good sim memories
  5. So don't read it - sheesh.
  6. Man I wish there was somewhere I could put down a $100 bet that someone would jump on a post that is just trying to help within 2 minutes of posting it saying "... that's not the exact aircraft in DCS". Really? - wow you mean the Hellanic Air Force isn't the United States Air Force, Greece isn't America? - crikey... Also apparently linking freely searchable on google links here is against the rules - link changed.... Looks like those manuals are good enough for the BMS users to refer to, I am sure DCS pilots can manage to identify the edit - differences!
  7. Indeed - apologies I was replying to this earlier comment - I should have quoted;
  8. Radomes are very regularly painted - paint doesn't stop radar waves. You want to weatherproof your radome as much as possible because you know what does block radar waves...moisture trapped in fibreglass.
  9. The day I max out at <80 FPS (out of a maximum 80 in Rift S) and my GPU is only running at <100% to do it - is the day I believe DCS is 'CPU Bound'...untill then I will just keep upgrading my GPU, because that is clearly the weak point as it easily maxes out at 100% trying to reach the FPS limit of the headset. GPU has no trouble receiving all the info it needs from the CPU that is barely breaking a sweat - GPU just can't handle it all fast enough.
  10. Thanks for the awesome deal on the new WH grip Akrescue130, good luck finding a home for the base - perfect for someone wanting one of the new Thrustmaster Hornet grips just released.
  11. I spend a lot more time in DCS in VR now with the Rift S thanks for one due to the better resolution actually making it pleasurable to fly, not a chore dealing with poor res, and secondly after updating my mobo Bios so now the whole DCS experience is smooth. Before with the CV1 - DCS in VR was fun no doubt - but the res just didn't make it super enjoyable for me and I didn't really relish flying in VR like I do now. If you are on the fence - do it. The cost is good in comparison to the other options and Oculus software is good and they are working on making the whole experience better.
  12. Yeah I have tried that with the Rift S - but even with ASW off it still sits at 40 fps regardless...something to do with the Rift S now, hopefully they change it.
  13. Yes Rift S is either 40 or 80 fps.
  14. No - my GPU is 100% over busy built-up areas....CPU is always steady at about 25% My GPU is normally around 75% during normal flying. This is a shot from today - just updated my Bios and left everything on my CPU as stock settings. This is the AV8 Instant Action flight at Caucasus - which is always pretty heavy for me FPS-wise.
  15. I would have to disagree - my CPU is nowhere near fully utilised in DCS, whereas my GPU is fully maxed out at 40 fps in some high-density areas with my current settings. Generally sits around 75%. DCS still doesn't make full use of current CPU's - and the upgrade I can do without changing my mobo (and entire system from scratch - no thanks) is minimal, i7 7700K. The best upgrade I can do at the moment is a new GPU and possibly another 16GB of RAM.
  16. Take your time and get well soon GA
  17. Interested in your thoughts on improvement in DCS over the 1080ti. I am tempted by the Strix but I can't bring myself to pay NZ$2,500 for a 15% improvement..
  18. NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1, Chapter 4, Operating Limitations
  19. Ha yeah tell me about it - I did notice on my third time watching it the views had jumped another 36,000 in 5 mins. I spied an F-14 at the end..
  20. 300,000 views in 2 hours....rather popular then.
  21. Yea the sound is pretty terrible. After the latest patch they improved it somewhat and I though meh it's not so bad now as I listened to the first few minutes in Vader Immortal....then plugged in my headphones and started the first few minutes again.....and ummm yeah - no comparison, the Rift S integrated strap speaker sound is real bad!
  22. Gauges are easier to read comparatively. Also I have no trouble reading the Harrier MFD's at 1.5 PD without leaning forward and they have pretty small text (VREST page etc). I also use the engine tape numbers on the F-14 as a bit of a yardstick for readability, and in the CV1 the numbers are not really readable from default position - Rift S yes readable (for me).
  23. Also upgraded from CV1 to Rift S - big improvement in resolution, clarity and god rays etc, as per others observations above. FOV about the same as CV1 - but FOV has never really bothered me - I just wanted better res. It cost $NZ700 with free delivery to New Zealand that only took a few days from Hong Kong, and was able to sell my old CV1 in 2 days on TradeMe for NZ$450+shipping....so a cost effective upgrade also! One thing I will say - upgrade your motherboard bios to latest version! Massive improvement for me doing that. For ear buds I am using the wired Bose SoundSport in-ear headphones as I use the wireless version at the gym etc. and they fit really well and the little rubber tab things keep them in your ears perfectly (so good for moving your head around in VR if the cable pulls a little), super cheap at the moment (as everyone is going wireless), very comfortable and the sound is great. https://www.amazon.com/Bose-SoundSport-ear-headphones-741776-0040/dp/B0117RFOEG?th=1
  24. I do still get a little bit of the ASW during dogfight, flyby view etc. But that was one of the first things I checked and previously I could never view a flyby without bad double-vision/ghosting. But yesterday I did manage a few in the Tomcat at Nevada that were smooth the whole way past which was awesome. Dogfight was better but still there, but not as bad. The ASW is still pretty much based on your settings thou I think. But it has improved heaps moving your head around in the cockpit, and as I said taxiing along the ground is perfectly smooth now, whereas before the ground was a ghosty stuttering mess. But yeah overall the improvement is literally amazing - completely new experience flying DCS in VR smoothly!
  25. Yeah you won't get the VREST page option if you are in A-G mode either. Just to say it won't always be there as a selection at the top of the MFD.
