Or even going backwardrs - the Mirage used to have a pilot body - not any more. I hope the Viper comes with one. I know HB were saying the F-14 pilot is WIP due to the pilot animations etc. TBH I just hope the Viper pit is modelled to the correct scale, which will enable the use of a pilot body - as I think this has more to do with it sometimes. Pretty easy to see the pit isn't to scale when you try to put a proper scale pilot body in there.

Yeah I did notice that line - -- Text shadow color in {red, green, blue, alpha} format, volume from 0 up to 255 -- alpha will by multiplied by opacity value for corresponding distance But I have tried both blur and shading and they are terrible in VR, and really you want the label itself to be transparent, not some drop shadow effect...that is pretty much useless for anything? But as I mentioned, I have noticed lately my labels have been really transparent to the point of being nearly invisible, regardless what value I put in the second number. The colour blend is working fine, but due to the fact the labels are so transparent, I have changed label colour to 0,0,0 RGB to try and darken them up and removed any colour blend which i used to use at close range to augment VID. [10000] = {aircraft_symbol_near , "CenterCenter",0.0, 0.0, -0.75, 0.75}, etc.

+1 I have some 1 pixel dot labels for use in VR and recently it seems that the transparency of the label is really high - the dot is almost invisible, and no notice being taken of the actual transparency figure you enter into the lua, as usual. A fix for this, and some clear instruction on how to make a simple centred dot (currently use CentreCentre...which isn't centered on object) that fades with distance would be very useful.

Nope, my IPD is 60 and the Rift S works great for me. The sweet spot is pretty big on the S also. Also you don't have to use the 'default' - just set your IPD in the Headset settings in the Oculus App. I believe it positions the two images on the 1 screen appropriately.

Been running the Campaign missions lately - I set the 'Green' (V/UHF - AFT Box - Primary) radio to the comms channel required for the mission to get AWACS etc, and leave the 'Red' (UHF - FWD Box - Secondary) radio on Channel 1 to contact wingman using the Red radio following a check-in.

I find it seems to be a fairly common trait in the flight sim community...
-
Yea exactly like that one - except that particular one is actually no longer 'available' (sorry to burst your bubble), and the 'New" version has been 'Coming Soon...' for quite a while now. I also emailed them asking for any info on release etc. and got no reply - so I am not holding my breath. Also pretty hard to go past the keypad costing NZ$75, and the Vipergear ICP costing NZ$462 (for the 'old' version, + the ridiculous shipping cost no doubt from Europe to NZ) - being in VR I couldn't care less what it looks like so long as it does the job of push button = actuate correct function on ICP in DCS.
-
Please make all the ICP buttons bindable to key presses. Found a great little keypad that will do nicely filling in for an ICP panel in VR until someone makes a replica ICP panel. https://www.amazon.com/Koolertron-Mechanical-Keyboard-One-Handed-Programmable/dp/B07RGVMRD7 Few adhesive circular pads on the upper row, and remove a few keys to the right and it will do the job. Oh and for anyone not in VR - it also comes with a bunch of blank white keys to label as required - pretty handy.

Yeah I have found 1.5 PD to be the sweet spot for res in the S, and because it ASW's to 40 down from 45 you seem to have a tiny bit more headroom despite the res bump - I used to run the CV1 at PD 1.3.

No worries BD - I guess I am just suffering from 'feature not working as intended' fatigue lately. Getting back into the Mirage to get some FBW practice before the F-16 drops and ran through the A-G training mission twice with no luck, before quitting out of DCS, loading up the forums and searching to find that new features implemented and you need to press another button to bring up A-G mode...which is not covered in the training mission. Just for one example, combined with trying to use the Harrier TPOD etc etc...you get the idea lol.

Just make a VA command to "Shutup Jester". It flashes through the menu commands so fast you barely notice. But yea a mappable command like the Tape Player Play etc would be nice. Compulsory command for when you want to fly anywhere near the ground! "Shit Shit Shit Shiiiit" - "Dude please, I got this..."

Best accessories and tools to enhance immersion?

You are probably getting the idea - but absolutely VR! The experience of actually sitting in a 1:1 cockpit and really looking around just makes DCS amazing. Even just the physicality of dogfighting and actually straining to look behind you and using the controls etc - all with no pesky G-forces lol. Landing is a lot easier also in VR - be it fixed wing or especially choppers. Also I would say using button boxes like the ones from DSD, and also the Cougar MFD's from Thrustmaster - much better to physically interact with switches and buttons compared to using a mouse to click them. Using external switches like that while in VR is super easy once you get used to it - and also with a little imagination to help locate and differentiate various controls from each other for even quicker selection and use. Edit: Forgot to mention, all the above while seated in a fixed rig with the stuff mounted as required around you, such as an Obutto rig or similar. -
Well, let's not go that far...

Using 2x #50 springs here also on each axis, using an extension and MCG. Mechanisms been working fine for a year or so now - but I did have the nut come off the pitch cam roller bearing stud the other day, along with the bearing and spacer while flying. Loud 'snap' and lost spring pressure in pitch - thought I had snapped something, so happy to see it was just a nut fallen off and the cam was pressing directly on the stud threads. Reinstalled nut with a tiny dab of loctite.

I also just flew this mission yesterday - tried the heading from airfield 2 times, even joining back with the circling Colt in formation after the first try. Everything else was working fine in the mission. I doubled back to airfield and flew exactly 180 degrees on HSI and continued for 40 miles - nothing. There does appear to be a landmark of a hilltop with a clearing at exactly 20 nm which I overfly, but yea no contact from flight lead. I don't know if this whole January thing is some sort of joke - but I really don't have time to waste flying around in circles in missions that don't work properly - skipped mission in logbook.lua. If you need to adjust from True to Mag or vice versa then maybe it should be in the mission notes/text.

Shame - you could have got some nice clip-in lens adapters for US$65 from WidmoVR. https://widmovr.com/product/rift-s-prescription-lens-adapters/ These are the ones I am using and they are great.

I did find this statement on the F-16 sales page quite intriguing - "The F-16 provides endless gameplay in DCS World!" Indeed - but does DCS World provide endless gameplay for the F-16... I know there are guys making really good limited scripted Campaigns, and to DCS' credit they are working on it - and it is no small challenge given the comments from the guy that designed the 'other' Dynamic Campaign.. Many recent simulators are released without even trying to code a Dynamic Campaign engine. Why do you think today's sim developers are so scared of what you guys were able to create more than a decade ago? Well, it's just really hard to do. Looking back on it, I think the only reason we took on what we did is because we were too inexperienced to know better. Knowing what I do now, even given my experience on Falcon, the cost to develop such an engine would be substantial. Since flight sims don't bring in that kind of revenue companies look at it from a cost to benefit standpoint and Dynamic Campaigns score pretty low in that regard. There is also the argument that scripted missions are more interesting which has some merit. I think if I were to do it over I would do a mix of scripted/generated missions, so that the player still feels like they're involved in the world, but there is also some variety thrown in to keep things interesting.

Can confirm white static flashes not fixed in latest update...as already said by Oculus, so no big loss really.

Totally agree - the thing that made that 'other' F-16 sim so good was the Dynamic Campaign! You felt like missions had actual consequences, and were driven to succeed. Currently you do a mission, or even 'campaign' in DCS - and apart from the singular 'experience' - it means nothing. You land again and nothing is gained. I mean obviously the 'experience' is still fun - but having that ongoing situation where every mission actually matters really makes a difference. I was never even that into the F-16 back in the day of those 'other' sims - but spent thousands of hours flying missions in the Dynamic Campaign, starting out planning OCA and SEAD to gain aerial domination, then supporting my ground troops as they pushed forward. Subsequently I am really looking fwd to the DCS F-16 release as I am so familiar with that aircraft - but fear it will be a hollow experience in comparison just doing meaningless single missions (and maybe a limited 'campaign' if and when one gets made). Fingers crossed it won't be - I mean Viper in VR, how could that be hollow lol!

Cool, yea fair enough. I have considered that too but I really prefer to physically push a button, flick a switch etc. as much as possible.
