Trim unresponsive when making stick corrections?
VampireNZ replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Nice, thanks IronMike. Will be a handy addition. Currently I just use the actual stick movement as a check for trim operation - which is obviously a bit course and less than ideal. On the topic of stick animation - any word on re-positioning of the stick more rearwards as default? I note it seems an awful long way forward at neutral trim, and you get about 1" of fwd movement till the 3d stick model 'hits' the instrument panel, but stick movement actually continues. But hey this might be as per the RL aircraft. In any case - I imagine this would do wonders for better visibility of the repeater screen also. -
I would recommend using the RH lever for the nozzles....given that the RL lever is to the right of the throttle - you know, for dat 'real realism'.
-
Well, I guess that never eventuated...back to the drawing board. No money trees in the foreseeable future I am afraid.
-
Yep I noticed that the other day too - trying to engage ALT hold and NWS button wasn't activating AP, REF light illuminated. Was busy sorting A-A radar contacts and TACAN etc at the time so was just stabbing at the button while ensuring a/c was level then just gave up. Just another system in DCS that doesn't work properly - you get used to it lol, no autopilot for you today sir, write it up when you land. Used to work fine - am sure the groundies will sign it off "Unable to replicate on ground - Fault not confirmed" Perhaps they fixed it in the OB update a few days ago.

I am using VR - and trying to match my body to the pilot body in VR which is prob more the problem. Comparing this position to sitting in a RL Huey (not comparing photos), it is too low. I have to duck my head to even see out the door window as my eyes are inline with the upper door frame IRL. Also need to duck slightly to read all the overhead panel labels. Am 5"10.

I can't make heads or tails of that website - have no idea if they are selling a base, or a base with a stick, or you need a Warthog stick and put in a force sensor they are making but it still is mounted to the Warthog base? 'FSSB R3 Lighting' - is that used with the 'F16SGRH' - which is their F-16 replica grip but with nothing to mount it to? So bottom line if you want a F-16 replica stick and force sensing base it will cost you 900 euro?

Oh...I thought they might have scaled the cockpit down to a realistic scale. Looks like the roof is still miles away from your head..
-
Yes my game rig is next to the window...with the curtains pulled so the window frame is obviously not visible. Yes I have read about possible issues with lightbulb freq etc which is why I specifically went out and bought old-skool standard 50Hz light bulbs, which Oculus has recognized at 50Hz while set to Auto. I actually read you shouldn't use the LED bulbs as you have.

Lol alright settle down. It is just plain old ass-covering, as I am well aware how seriously our 'foreign' military takes this sort of stuff (I am not U.S). Like over-the-top secret squirrel stupid...but hey I didn't make the rules I just try to stay out of trouble. Like I am not even joking man, I guess if you haven't been operational aircrew before you won't be aware how serious the military is regarding security and information etc. Bottom line we were told not to discuss capability (yes that includes the addition of any potentiometers as you put it) regarding anything. I mean even the capability of our EO turret....that you could just go to the manufacturers website and read all the advertising specs on it if you wanted to - but we weren't allowed to mention any of its capability. Sounds stupid I know - but thems the rules I am afraid. I am sorry it upsets you so much.

Yes I am aware of that, I have 2x 60W 50Hz downlights in a my 10m x 10m games room. I even re-fit my monitor mount to my sim rig for some more reference points for the cameras. I guess I need some more pictures on the walls? I suppose some brighter lights might be in order...but trying to avoid having blazing bright light seeping in the nose gap if possible lol. Just interested that I only have tracking issues like that in DCS.... Exactly the same boat as me, but I was waiting for the Reverb in NZ - then just went stuff it and bought the Rift S which will hold me over nicely till the 'real' Gen 2 headsets come out. By which time we might have a GPU with some decent muscle as well..
-
I am sure you are..but that's the kind of capability info we don't go around posting in random internet forums, especially for people that are 'super interested' lol
-
Hey, some people are satisfied to live a life of mediocrity, while others hope for more..
-
Yes I would say the upgrade to Rift S is worth it, especially as I intend to chuck the CV1 on TM and recoup at least 1/2 the cost of it. The cockpit is much more readable - I am actually shocked at how clear and sharp the text is on the Harrier displays and HUD now. Cockpit panel labels are a bit clearer also so less leaning required. The performance is pretty good too - better than the CV1 I am pretty sure - GPU was working less for same settings, prob due to 40 fps not 45? Also possible to hit 80 more often instead of 90 - the drop is not noticeable either. I can also wear my glasses inside the HS which is nice, but only makes a minor improvement as my eyesight is not that bad - still going to get some prescription inserts thou (which look to fit much better than the CV1 option) to ensure the max crispness. The sound is OK to be honest after the latest update - easy to use headphones thou as you just place them on the unit itself then take off/put on the unit and position them on your ears. Personally I am going to try a couple of little 'sound deflectors' velcroed to the strap to direct more sound into my ears, as that made a difference also. No worries getting to NZ as the price includes all import taxes etc, and gets here in around a week as it's only coming from Hong Kong. So long as you are aware there is a random white flash every now and then (which is not as bad as the one I hired for a week to try out - upgraded firmware/updates?), and the weird view resetting bug with DCS - but I am sure these will both get fixed in time. My CV1 has been faultless for a couple of years so pretty confident in the quality. If you want to try one out before you buy just hire one for a week from Graham at VR Rentals - https://www.virtualrealityrental.co.nz/index.php I made sure I tried all the ones I was interested in first for a week, so The CV1 and also the Vive Pro, O+, neither which I liked, and the Rift S which I subsequently bought. Hope that helps

Clearly you are incorrect - did you not see the comment regarding the 80's ;) Eh glass 1/2 empty or 1/2 full - granted I am happy I got to experience VR in my lifetime...but by the time it gets any good my eyesight will prob be too bad to enjoy it. I am just genuinely sad technology hasn't evolved at the rate we thought it would back in the day - maybe I am just getting old lol. I guess humans aren't getting any smarter - no reason to think the rate of technological advance will increase.

Yes aware you can look under them for the cockpit - which is why the cockpit had specific NVG qualified lighting installed. Problem is in DCS in VR the NVG view is the entire view.

Trim unresponsive when making stick corrections?
VampireNZ replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yes I am aware - thanks. I actually do touch & gos on the carrier and maintain complete dirty state the entire time. Gentle on the throttle during the 'Go' part and you won't pull in the SB and DLC. I don't need to touch the trim at all for the entire circuit as I am already on-speed. Am after approach and landing practice - not trimming practice. Just this time I was faffing around with other things and was climbing out with a lot of stick FWD and noticed it wasn't trimming down. -
Yea absolutely - but the more I think about it the more I think this won't actually solve the problem, as moving the 'focused' part of the image at the speed the human eye can flick around instantly would need a huge refresh rate to avoid blurring etc so as to not be noticeable...and we are back in the realms of needing a GPU that can support a refresh rate that high, along with the high res etc. Bottom line we just need hardware that doesn't suck in 2020...you know that date that we thought back in the 80's we would be in flying cars and have robots walking around, hologram display systems etc etc. What we got instead - standard flat screens, 'emergent' electric new cars that are pretty average, and a robot vacuum cleaner. Salty I know...but we went from the Wright brothers and mans first flight to walking on another planet (allegedly lol) in the space of 1 mans lifetime...now progress in technology is pretty rubbish.

I would literally pay that much for a VR system THAT WORKED. If I could jump in DCS or any other VR program and it worked perfectly smoothly thanks to an adequately powerful CPU/GPU being available and the programming worked properly. Problem is none of that exists. GPU's can barely run the current gen of VR headsets, and the jump in performance by the 2080ti from the 1080ti was a joke, like literally a joke by nVidia as they still have mountains of last gen cards to sell.
-
I will try anything at this stage for smooth flight - will try maxxed out (usually have it OFF).

Does shadow really have such a big impact in VR?
VampireNZ replied to GVO's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes DCS is strange like that - my CPU is never even near max capacity on any cores - yet still limits performance I believe. With the following I am sitting at around 70%-80% GPU usage locked at 40 fps in the Rift S. 100% over PG Cities. Still get judders looking sideways and on the ground...without maxing any hardware...grrr. Texture High Terrain Textures High Shadows Low Civil traffic Med Water High Visib Ultra - (with custom edits) Grass/clutter 0% Terrain Shadows Off (Off due Flat actually looks really bad - flickering and just bad) Trees 75% Msaa x2 Pd-1.5 Preload Radius 100k If I drop PD to 1.4 my GPU is sitting around 65% for 40 fps, might drop back to this to try and remove some judders...but I think this is wishful thinking in DCS to have totally smooth flight. I sort of expect to have a smooth flight experience with minimal CPU usage and only 65% GPU usage....weirdness. -
In exactly the same boat - was holding out for the Reverb - but sheesh after the huge issues they are having and the fact HP now are not even giving out headsets anymore even as replacements for faulty ones, just straight to a refund. Not good. Pulled the trigger on a Rift S and it arrived yesterday - first impression jumping in the Harrier was like WOAH WTF - text on the MPCD's and HUD was so clear it was freaky. Few minor issues with infrequent white flash, and the view resetting outside the aircraft (issue limited to DCS,) but I am sure they will get fixed in time. The CV1 was a bit of a dud when it first arrived too - but was working flawlessly in the end.

Trim unresponsive when making stick corrections?
VampireNZ replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I might just have to give that a shot SE, as yesterday I was in a bolter fly-away (by choice of course....trap training!) and had full fwd stick and trying madly to trim nose-down and nothing happening...as I shoot skyward with my landing trim set. But prob due to my stick angle offset I have and the angle I am hitting the hat switch at. -
I just got the Rift S yesterday and have had this happen several times also - view snaps to sitting outside the aircraft to the right side of the cockpit. Only happens in DCS. I have the guardian system disabled so not sure that's it. I have had to re-do my play area several times as it loses it for some reason. Will try setting from my rig seated position, but I also would like to do other things in VR that use the whole room so it would be nice if DCS handled VR in the Rift S like everything else does.
-
I always start in the right view position - as I ensure I am facing correctly as the game/mission loads. I am talking about just flying along and then BAM I am sitting outside the aircraft right next to the fuselage looking forward lol - a little disconcerting! I have a quick button to re-centre thou.
