It would also be very useful for those of us with a two-position switch on the throttle to have each position equate to activating and cancelling the specific mode. So AFT for DF/Cancel, FWD for MRM/Cancel

They will swap out the straight adaptor for the angled F-16 one if you ask them 'clearly' before delivery..so they say. I ended up with both of them, but they did offer to refund the straight one if I sent it back tracked from NZ to Spain...which would cost 1/2 the price again of the refund anyway lol. Also, it is the FSSB R3 'Lighting' (not the electrical discharge) - due to the addition of LED lighting in the Base.

Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!

Sry not been closely following this one - is there any word on if this map will include Israel, or just Syria & Lebanon? -
Anyone actually (or claim) to have acceptable VR performance?
VampireNZ replied to Stal2k's topic in Virtual Reality
So do you attribute the improvement to the speed increase from 2400 to 3200, or the move from 16GB to 32GB (i.e have you checked to see if you are utilising more than 16GB RAM?) -
I thought the AH-1 Cobra was coming? That would be a great addition for that new Vietnam map...nudge nudge wink wink ED, thou personally I would rather fly a Loach - the 500 is an awesome chopper.

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread

I know why it does it - and it looks cool. -
I assume when ED say "statics view range was increased for the Targeting pod" - they mean the view range for everything at all tiimes, that results in better view range/less pop-up when using a TPOD? Which is very nice (one less mod I need to enable), but yeah has a negative effect when not even using a TPOD - really need stuff to pop up further only in the TPOD view - but not sure that's possible?

Hmmm that lever on the side looks super-handy for the Harrier.. Stop tempting me, I am waiting for the VKB so I can plug it into my existing black-box and save a USB! Edit: no need to worry - looks like I can't even buy one if I wanted to anyway lol.

Got a Reverb coming for a try from the local VR headset rental chap down here, is handy to be able to try these headsets out for a while before buying. I have been quite surprised how uncomfortable I have found a few in the past. Reverb looks good thou - keen to see the res improvement and performance.

The Tomcat definitely wins the 'best TPOD display' for me - love the distortion effect on the screen due to an explosion. -
Yes, non-moving force sensing base that you can plug your Warthog stick directly into - nothing else needed. Yeah the software is actually really good and you can adjust all sorts of stuff like offset angle (as with a sidestick you 'pull back' slightly to the side so can 'rotate;' the force sensing - 12 degrees is as per the RL F-16), force settings and even the NASA setting (so less % force to roll right compared to roll left due to muscle strength diffs). You have 4 different options to adjust the sensitivity on the fly in 25% increments using the DMS switch after pressing your preferred 'select' combo (either CMS press or pinky+paddle). So select then DMS down is 50%, then same and CMS up and back to 100% - really easy. Saying that you really don't need to reduce the sensitivity to fly some pretty sweet formation - you have a pad to rest your forearm on (as in the real aircraft) and you very lightly hold the stick between your thumb and forefinger and use super light pressure. Was flying some formation with an AI Mirage last night and just came up alongside and gently rested my wingtip on top of his and flew along - very easy. Obviously also with the FBW you are only tweaking the control position, not holding it in place so constant pressure is not generally needed. You can have a whole bunch of stuff on top of all that too - pretty nifty piece of kit. I got used to it immediately as from racing motorcycles you really use 'pressure' on the throttle and brake lever during corning while racing, so was no big shakes to adjust to pressure flying as opposed to gross movement. Someone on the FSSB forum also posted a great python script that beeps the same as the Gripen when approaching 80% max force, and faster beep at 100% (which actually aligned perfectly with the beep warning in the Mirage most the time) - really cool. It does beep as standard(and flash LEDs in the base) - but is hard to hear in VR with ear buds in, so the python script plays the winsound beep. Sorry - wall of text lol. Can't wait for the Viper!

I recently updated my 2015 mobo Bios and my VR performance improved dramatically! Much smoother experience, I run at PD 1.5 and it sits at 40 pretty comfortably. Still get that ASW ghosting with fast-moving aircraft in a DF etc - but hoping DCS 'VR perf increase' might help with that stuff - eventually. -
Yep they make good quality stuff - along with my VKB Gunfighter and FSSB w/ Warthog stick I have used the throttle for a few years now and it is still going strong. I much prefer the linear tracking throttle as I spent 6 years pushing throttles that moved the same way so it feels much more natural to me, and I just recently applied a bit of the Nyogel 767A (https://www.oveready.com/flashlight/nyogel-767aa-damping-grease-10g-tube/) to the rails and it feels great. I have also just started using the pedals as they are narrow enough to fit inside the base of my Obutto rig, and they seem to be doing the job just fine (previously had driving pedals in there for dual-purpose setup). Obviously the stick isn't force sensing or anything, but is still a good stick, I used one for a while till my VKB arrived, plenty of buttons on the base for additional mappings you don't need on your HOTAS setup. Plenty of reviews on the gear, Stormbirds (great site) just did a thorough review of all the gear over here - https://stormbirds.blog/2019/08/13/thrustmaster-t-16000m-fcs-flight-pack-review/ You really can't beat the setup for value for money!

Could be worse - you could be faced with the 671 page A-10C manual :book: But yeah the guys above have covered it, just pretty much take the same route real military pilots do and start small with the basics, (although in the military you spend a few months studying the books and passing emergency actions in the sim before you even touch the aircraft, but that's no fun lol). Basic handling, circuits and landings etc, or 'flying the aircraft'...then once you can handle the aircraft without having to 'think' about it you can move on to operating the weapons systems etc, or 'fighting the aircraft'. But hey lets be honest here - you are gonna do one take off and landing...then want to see stuff go BOOM!

You tried running a DCS repair? Personally I load up Oculus then DCS from desktop and then jump in rig. Never had much luck loading DCS from inside Oculus.
-
Yes they really need to rename that option - I actually printed out a 1:1 scale front panel view of the F-14 and compared it by holding at same distance as VR panel and alternating between RL and VR to align the sizes of the panel, gauges, screens etc.- settled on 56, while my actual IPD is 60. But then I find the Huey pit/pilot body seems a bit big, so swap back to 58 in that - not all pits are the same scale it seems.

Lol . I didn't even know there were sequals to Iron Eagle till reading this Forum, can only imagine the 'quality'.

Yep absolutely, it was just a simple observation from the DCS YT page alone - I didn't go investigating or scouring the web for specific video watch figures and my post wasn't meant to place one module over another. My avatar pic clearly shows my preference - but as mentioned around the web, this module will be like 'going home' again for many sim pilots. I was just quite surprised the Viper Trailer had so many views after a single week, and similar popular module trailers on DCS page seemed like a logical benchmark. Even looking at your figures above you would have to admit achieving that number of views after 1 week is pretty impressive. As I said - looks like the F-16 Viper is going to be a very popular module. :)
-
My mistake - was just going off what my eyes read on the YT video thumb nails on the DCS page.... F-14 Tomcat "Launch Trailer" F/A-18 "Launch Trailer" F-16 "Official Trailer" My humble apologies for pointing out how popular the Viper is.

Just watching the trailer...again, and noticed some interesting stats. F-14 Tomcat Launch Trailer : 5 Months, 76,000 views. F/A-18 Hornet Launch Trailer : 1 Year, 119,000 views. F-16 Viper Launch Trailer: 1 WEEK, 243,000 views! As I said quite some time ago, am surprised it took ED this long - limited access to information maybe? (Thou it is probably more the cinematography than the aircraft , aye GA;))
