  1. My mistake - was just going off what my eyes read on the YT video thumb nails on the DCS page.... F-14 Tomcat "Launch Trailer" F/A-18 "Launch Trailer" F-16 "Official Trailer" My humble apologies for pointing out how popular the Viper is.
  2. Just watching the trailer...again, and noticed some interesting stats. F-14 Tomcat Launch Trailer : 5 Months, 76,000 views. F/A-18 Hornet Launch Trailer : 1 Year, 119,000 views. F-16 Viper Launch Trailer: 1 WEEK, 243,000 views! As I said quite some time ago, am surprised it took ED this long - limited access to information maybe? (Thou it is probably more the cinematography than the aircraft , aye GA;))
  3. Hey Spud, I was looking for the same just the other day in the Mirage - no luck. Then I remembered a long and protracted thread regarding RL NVG's not having gain etc - that was more drama than information. But suffice to say it looks like Razbam have gone for the 'no variable gain' route. At least the default setting is pretty good, the mission I was on was dark early morning moving into sunrise and the NVG's were usable for quite a while.
  4. 1) Personally I just re-map Cockpit Camera Move FWD, BACK etc from the View Cockpit options window to a different key or toggle switch in my pit. (Had an external numpad for a while so just set 8 as FWD, 2 as AFT etc.). But by saving a default seating position as per below I don't need to move my viewpoint in-game. 2) Users/name/Saved Games/DCS/Config/View - SnapViews.lua Just edit the aircraft you want to move with Notepad++, this file stays the same after updates etc so no need to keep doing it (but good idea to have a backup copy). e.g. My F-14 settings so my head is in the middle of the seat, not squashed back against the headrest. }, [14] = {--default view - VR viewAngle = 85.000000,--FOV hAngle = 0.000000, vAngle = 0.000000, x_trans = 0.080000, -- +FWD -AFT y_trans = 0.000000, -- +UP -DWN z_trans = 0.000000, rollAngle = 0.000000, and my Huey settings..little bit up and fwd same as you (to match with 3D pilot body). [14] = {--default view - VR viewAngle = 60.000000,--FOV hAngle = 0.000000, vAngle = 0.000000, x_trans = 0.100000, -- +FWD - AFT y_trans = 0.010000, -- +UP -DWN z_trans = 0.000000, rollAngle = 0.000000, Is handy also to zero out any wierd angles that you may have in the view due to saving a view with the default in-game save option.
  5. Yeah I am definitely keeping my eye on the Reverb, as the cost isn't an issue...but all the problems and faffing is! Oculus is just so easy, and I also enjoy a few other Oculus titles in VR as well which makes it an easy choice. But that 'monitor-level' resolution of the Reverb is very tempting.
  6. Lol wat? Pretty sure AB use during flight is authorised on the B model Sir - you know, as you "AB straight up to the tanker to fill up" ( Am aware of AB clearance for different models during cat launch...psst my Aavatr is a Tomcat ;))
  7. Remember to drive forward a decent way after contact. If you are trying to hold station as soon as you contact the basket then it is no surprise you are struggling, and minor deviations result in unplugging. Keep and eye on the lit transfer light on the hose pod as an indication you are approaching a disconnect (if it goes out). Just plug in then carry on forward and up as you follow the drape line of the hose - if you just drive straight forward, again you are going to reach the connection limit sooner (hose not long enough to come down to you). If you park right up behind the refuel pod (but not too close!) you will find you have a huge area that you can drift around in and not drop connection - but yea try to focus on a sight picture and react positively and promptly to maintain that picture, don't let the aircraft drift away then think about doing something about it. Edit: Oh sniped lol - I see you have it nailed now. Nice job. Now every mission - blast off the carrier and AB straight up to the tanker to fill up, will become second nature in no time
  8. Yeah I don't think people were clamouring to say how 'good' DCS looked in the Oculus headset - it was more the experience of flying inside the virtual DCS environment in a 1:1 scale aircraft etc. that was pretty cool. Even now in the Rift S, while the cockpit graphics are "sharper and better" - the overall experience visually is still pretty average compared to a monitor....but we are getting there - slowly.
  9. Yeah I have been putting it up and down fine using one button on DSD box while I have been flying (and only because I accidentally hit the wrong button - who actually wants a darker screen in VR making it even harder to see through the tinted HUD?).
  10. That's awesome to hear - Thank You! Looking forward to this module very much  I only mentioned it as there are some modules with binding options that can only be described as 'interesting', such as rotary knobs for common systems used every flight with no binding options at all, similar knobs with multiple positions with each separate position bindable to a seperate control...but no binding option to simply rotate the actual knob up/down to each position - be it by rotary encoder, toggle switch..button pushes..nothing. Given that this is the main way the customer directly interacts with the module every single time they fly it - it is just a shame for this stuff to be not given any priority at all on some modules. I guess just a little common sense and forethought and it should be pretty easy to sort out.
  11. Yep that will do fine - always check your motherboard specs and see what is the best RAM that it supports is. 4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 3200(O.C.)/3100(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2600(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2250(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory * Dual Channel Memory Architecture Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) You could go for 32GB DDR3 3200Mhz XMP pair, with the lowest C latency figure you can afford. https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/Z97P/specifications/
  12. What would be the chances of a standard shaped circular gear lever knob with a short protruding shaft that slides onto a DSD Button Box toggle switch, which you can then tighten down with a couple of opposing grub screws? That would be pretty nifty. Edit: I guess not much chance then lol...guess I will have to model one up in NX12 and get it printed myself.
  13. Nice
  14. Thanks for your input and views on the subject, totally understand. I am aware of the buffet at the mach transition, and I try to avoid this area of light for prolonged periods of time for the reasons stated. It just seems the 'band' for the movement of the cockpit is very wide around the 'triggers' if you know what I mean. It is very difficult in normal flying to not be in a zone where the cockpit is jiggling around to some extent, and it seems to always be moving. If you have ever experienced the Rift/Rift S when it had issues with tracking quality etc. leading to constant minor image movement/jitter then you will know what I am talking about - it can be quite unsettling. But I understand your reasoning, and hey it is your aircraft so you will program it however you like, the fidelity of the aircraft is great. It isn't the end of the world and I will just have to deal with it, it is just a shame that the reasons to not fly my favourite aircraft in DCS keep mounting.
  15. Yeah that's a good point - I might try upping the size to 2 pixels and see what happens to the transparency.
  16. Indeed - but in the sim the blackout slowly grows from the edges - you don't just 'g-loc without warning'.....and as such I would like to see a grey-out with this slow onset of G-loc.
  17. What do conditions of the atmosphere have to do with an aircraft engine type...? :music_whistling: Those feels when you correct someone in BOLD...and get it wrong.... https://www.gingersoftware.com/english-online/spelling-book/confusing-words/weather-whether
  18. I would also like to see the scene desaturate before you fully black out, and then the colour slowly return once the G-load is reduced. You always 'grey-out' first before full blackout. Seeing the effects HB have for no oxygen at altitude, I am sure a simple reduction in colour palette wouldn't be too hard?
  19. Could we please have an option to bind the Tooltips On/Off option in the UI Layer or accessible in the in-game options menu or something please? At night using NVGs the tooltips totally blow out the NVG's...and to turn it off if you forget (or are doing a new campaign and didn't know it was a night mission etc) you have to quit the mission and turn them off in the options.
  20. A lot of aircraft in DCS have a specific HOTAS group in the mapping options which contains the commands that are mapped to the HOTAS in RL - that is a good place to start, along with some googling of the RL controls.
  21. If it doesn't by default - you can bet it won't take long...
  22. Try not to take it personally. Most folks on here want 'realism' etc. etc. - well here it is. Military instruction is not like down at your local kindy where all the teachers are warm and fuzzy and care about your feelings...do the job right, do it properly..and if you don't we are going to tell you. Then because you are an adult you will nod, take this onboard, and then go away and do it right. After every RL flight we would sit down as a crew and have a debrief from the senior crew/IPs - and they were brutal. All the things we did wrong pointed out to us, and don't even think about having some lame 'reason' why you did this or decided that - they don't care. Just nod, take down notes, and do it properly next time. The post-sim currency check rides de-briefs were even worse! Also forget about getting any praise for doing things right/well - that is your job and why you are there, to do stuff right - so don't expect a pat on the back and a lollypop. Obviously everyone isn't cut out for that 'style' of instruction, but hey at least here you don't need to listen to it - just don't read his posts/threads etc. I am sure he won't care. In the real world you don't have the option - and pretty much you can ask 10 pilots how to do a certain thing, and major standardisation aside, they will all have a different answer. So nod and smile....and if that pilot is your particular checking IP, do it that way.
  23. Aah that's good to hear, thanks. @aceviper - Yes I opened this thread in the ED section as it is up to ED to control the size of 3rd party modules in an effort to keep the size of the overall 'sim' down to a manageable level. I am sure if it was just up to each 3rd party to suit themselves then everyone would think their aircraft 'needed' 8k textures - and the final size of DCS World would be ridiculous. With new modules, carriers and terrains planned for release, I thought I might keep a closer eye on the total install size, since DCSW resided on my C: drive.
