I have noticed my performance lately in VR on the OB is a fair bit worse lately. I believe ED are gathering data etc of the 'optimisations' for further study..
-
Just picked up the Harrier in the sale and am quite enjoying it. Not entirely confident with all the systems yet as you would expect so won't really comment on any of that, but I saw something interesting yesterday, not sure what I did but I had the FPM swinging around at the bottom of the bomb fall line with the fixed cross at the top where the FPM would normally be - feature? But yeah really enjoying it so far with the stuff I can get to work.

Thanks Bods - having the same issue with missing textures and use that mod, will revert to standard.
-
Yeah I have the same throttle - currently I use the 'velcro mod' where you stick a couple of pieces of the fluffy pile velcro on each inside edge of the track at the end. Position the AFT edge of the velcro to match MIL position. Then when you push forward with medium pressure the throttle stops with the extra resistance of the velcro at MIL, then you just keep pushing with more force into the AB zone, with the extra resistance allowing for more precise positioning for AB zones. Or you can just jam it hard forward straight from idle into full AB. Obviously the MIL position might be different for different aircraft - so DCS really needs the 'Set AB Detent Position' option from Falcon 4.0! Certainly not ideal but does the trick. Will hold me over till the VKB throttle is released!

Yeah I am sure some clever-clogs out there could change the colour of the boxes to 100% transparent or something.
-
All good info above, cheers. I think this AB detent button meaning all or nothing AB would be a no-go for me, as I regularly use varying levels of AB in the Tomcat from min AB for climbing/accel to a quick burst of max AB to accel in a DF then easing away from full but still maintaining AB. Pretty sure I won't have a spare button for it anyway. But hey I am open to new things so will try it out when the Viper releases. I guess a quick burst of full AB=prolonged min AB anyway in terms of fuel usage & accel.

Sorry I don't have the F-18 so not familiar with this 'option', but reading your description - what do you do if you are at MIL and want to go into full AB? Isn't the throttle already at full FWD travel? Do you need to drop the throttle back then push the AB detent button then move it full FWD again?....cause that seems 'less than ideal'. Same deal with going from AB to MIL - AFT then FWD again without button pushed? How do you set different levels of AB if it just goes into AB at full FWD travel with the button pushed? What is wrong with just implementing the Falcon 4.0 option of the user setting an AB position on the travel range of their particular throttle. Probably one of the best control mapping options ever that has been continually ignored. Does Microprose have a patent on it or something?

Agreed ;)....these days I just try to place the pipper over the pilots head! :music_whistling:

Would love to purchase this aircraft and give it a go....but you can blame those guys that released the F-14 Tomcat for dominating all my DCS time!! Just don't feel I could give it the attention it deserves to learn it properly, but gee that radar display does look tasty...and I do like me some ground pounding...

Woa trippy - didn't know that. Wonder what it looks like in VR?

This topic has probably been beaten to death, but I couldn't find any specific threads about it ...So I just wanted to ask Heatblur about the possibility of PLEASE including LANTIRN control for the pilot as a standard option in the future. I believe you guys are working on Jester controlling the pod, but using the mod that is out there at the moment that lets me control the LANTIRN from the front seat is awesome! It's the dogs bollocks doing the LANTIRN bombing all from the front seat - I know you can jump in the back in SP and control the pod, which I tried till I realised there was no mapping for dropping the bombs from the back so you have to jump back in the front to actually drop the bomb, then back into the back..which is kinda stink. I have also had major issues with getting Iceman to control the aircraft properly while in the back seat - fails to even hold straight and level, dopesn't go where he is told etc etc. I have even heard that HB are going to try and purposefully break the Pilot Controls LANTIRN mod that is out there at the moment! Something about unfair advantage for single pilot in MP or something? Uh? Might just be a rumor thou. But bottom line, LANTIRN bombing in the Tomcat from the front is pretty awesome at the moment - not 'realistic' I know. Also I think the Jester controls LANTIRN will not give the same flexibility as doing it yourself...or the fun. So please can we have the option? Ta. n.b. (I guess the F-16 is coming soon...which will take care of my front seat radar and pod operations wishes ;))

Zillion page online manual....looks up DLC on wikipedia... Also just a Q - but when you say you got nothing from the manual, which part of these sections was confusing? The manual is still changing if you think a better description is needed.

Jester Evasion Calls for Friendly Missiles
VampireNZ replied to VampireNZ's topic in Bugs and Problems
No no it was TC on the RWR....I am just a lazy typer :music_whistling: Typing T instead of Ticonderoga. I always referred to it as the Big 'T', as if there was one of those even relatively marginally close during an exercise, we were dead lol. Also checks with what you were saying regarding the priority showing regardlessof F/N, as it only popped onto the RWR once launching in my direction at bandits. EDIT: Just further to my last Super Grover, while I understand the limitations of the RWR with discerning Friend from Foe priority launches etc, I don't believe Jester should be limited by the same logic. I would assume that as a competent RIO he is aware there is a friendly Ticonderoga at our 7 o'clock and when TC flashes in the priority ring of the RWR at that location - then it is a friendly launch not targetting us. Subsequently the "Missile Missile Missile, Break Left!!" call is probably not needed, and just adds confusion to the situation (Does he mean the TC launch, or has he seen a real enemy launch at us that I actually need to break for?). I don't know the details of your programming, but I would guess you can determine if an enemy missile is locked and heading for the player aircraft or not? In which case just bypass the RWR for Jester and add a little SA to his calls directly - so along the lines of TC flashes in RWR priority ring and launches, Jester could call "Friendly launch warning" or something - and save his excited 'Break' calls for confirmed enemy launches? I am head-2-head with multiple enemy bandits and trying to position so I am not really interested at all in breaking left to avoid a friendly missile headed for the enemy aircraft and totally losing any advantage by going defensive for no reason whatsoever, if you know what I mean. Understand you have 101 things to do to Jester - but I guess stuff that directly impacts if I blow up or not seems high-ish priority. In any case, was just a thought  -
Thats a big +1 from me Ghostrider.

'If the gun engagement was executed successfully this means that the diamond should still be on top of the target, blinking, indicating that the bullets passed through the target’s location

Jester Evasion Calls for Friendly Missiles
VampireNZ replied to VampireNZ's topic in Bugs and Problems
No problem, thanks Grover! Yeah I was pretty close to the action as the T's missiles were inbound (visual with bandits) so could see how the RWR could get concerned. -

I sure wish they would! - would love to get my hands on a Cougar setup with DCS releasing the F-16!! :joystick:

Jester Evasion Calls for Friendly Missiles
VampireNZ replied to VampireNZ's topic in Bugs and Problems
HI Cobra, no that was experienced before the latest patch. -
Jester gets all excited and calls friendly missiles launched from a Blue Ticonderoga CG, along with associated 'Break Left!' calls etc. Also as an aside - the RWR is also lighting up when the T launches an Anti-Air missile with a missile launch warning when the RWR is set to N. Obviously an allied CG should be a known emitter and not in the 'Threat Library'? (NORM - Normal is indicated by a N in the status ring on the display and shows threat symbology according to the loaded threat library." Friendly emmitters should only display is RWR set to F. (FRIEND - Friendly is indicated by an F in the status ring on the display and allows for the same prioritization as in normal but also displays known friendly emitters.) The Ticonderoga is an unknown friendly emmitter? In any case - is a little annoying having Jester freaking out as if we are about to die when a friendly CG is shooting down enemy aircraft nearby. Chill out back there dude :).

Cheers...yeah, NZ$211 just for shipping. Might wait a bit lol

Where are you guys buying these from - I thought they weren't released yet?? You certainly can't buy them from the HP website.

I also use a couple of DSD button boxes that mount to my Fanatec steering wheel base (Rig doubles as driving rig with removable wheel). I found that simple swapping out a few of the knobs and adding a couple of rubber boots to the switches it is quicker to find/confirm the knob/switch I am after - as opposed to finding the end of the row and counting switches to the one you want. I also have a few little stick-on thingies made of plastic and foam on top of some of the buttons for the same reason. Sold from the local hardware store to place on the bottom of stuff so it doesn't scratch shelves etc. I use an external numpad down by my right leg for additional controls and placed one of the foam stick-on thingies on the #5 key as a quick guide to centralise on the keypad. With the F-16 due for release soon I also just purchased the TM MFD panels as the chap above to mount to the wheel base also - and intend on placing a little square of grip tape to the middle button on each row for the same reasons. I will also place the plastic 'screens' in each MFD as well so there is a bit more reference when I stick my hand out, instead of just empty space and trying to find the frame of it for the buttons. But will see how it goes - imagine if you always drop your hand onto the top frame first it would be fine. Is really nice using external real switches to manipulate systems in DCS as opposed to the mouse - and your muscle memory generally gets your hand in the right place after a while. Hope that helps :)

dual throttle controls...to lock or unlock?
VampireNZ replied to fitness88's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Look at what she quoted.... You would make a good P-3 Orion Flight Engineer - gotta get those engine powers balanced perfectly lol! Each finger has it's own power lever. Generally try to perfectly match all 4 TIT/HP's. Good example below of #1 & #4 having worse performance than #2 & #3. Now we just need DCS to have varying engine performance so we can get some split-throttles happening ;) -
Awesome - thanks Wags! This absolutely looks like a day one purchase for me for sure.
