  1. yep, who would have thought that a 500GB drive is no match for DCS meanwhile. I think in the long run it will outgrow my 1TB DCS drive just as it surpassed all other before. from 256GB to 2x256GB in Raid-0, then 3x256GB in Raid-0 and now a 1TB nvme and I start wondering again...
  2. I have no experience with OHV Servers but in general, wasn't it better to configure that 2nd firewall instead of disabling it ? Unless, for rare technical reasons, that isn't possible. You know the balance between security and user friendly ? Going all user friendly is often the entrance for bad stuff to happen.
  3. Tbh, for 1500 bucks I expect full Gsync support with a Nvidia chip inside the monitor and not just Gsync-compatible cheap alternative The feature set of those two differ a lot, i.e. lowest supported Hz/FPS for Gsync to work and some more.
  4. I'd stick with that combo and wait. The 1080ti is good enough for 1440p, using it myself. Sure, you could up the LOD with some more GPU power. Replace the 1080ti when it dies, that's what I will do.
  5. The prices in Poland are not the same as in the US. Likely add 50-75% on top of it...and then remember the likely lower wages too. Sometimes, geography sucks !
  6. Tho I ain't using internal radiators the case I am using could do so. Plenty space for rads and GPU and good cable management and overall quality. https://phanteks.com/Enthoo-Evolv-X.html
  7. I honestly wouldn't call it "by design" as no one with options would do it THAT way. They haven't done such nonsense before, why should they, and won't repeat it if they have OPTIONS. The thermal density of 5nm , AM4 cooler compatibility ( thicker IHS ), 3D-Cache etc. take their toll, they took many of the options to stay below the said temp. in my eyes, this is somehow the same stop-gap solution as Intels Big-Little approach. No way they would have done that if their design allowed 16p cores w/o cooking off. They give it a fancy name or say it's by design and we shall believe it. It's nothing but a shortcoming in true bold words
  8. Yes, flight school, I got that right. F/A-18, F-16, F-15E, Apache. It's basically the lack of time that holds me back to study those systems in-depth by my own. Those days when I had that much time and patience are gone. That's where collective learning with a teacher who knows what I lack is a good thing. You know what the aircraft can do, you know what you need but where the heck is it buried, in which order do I push the knobs and dials and all that.. I have given up to know all modules I own so far that I can take them to combat, that wish will go the grave with me, haha. I want to Focus on those 3 above, maybe include the Tomcat at a later stage.
  9. Hi kaltokri, actually, I thought a german based squad that doesn't have too strict rules with Training and demanded times online might be something for me. What are your usual hours for training and flights ?
  10. I'd use HWinfo if you want per core clocks. It can also export to RTSS ( Afterburner OSD ) iirc.
  11. Any system capable of running a 12th-gen Intel CPU will run on 11. I admit, if you never worked with Secure Boot, TPM and all there is to select and enable in Bios it can be tricky at first. On the other hand, any 12th gen Intel based board should by default have Bios setting that let you install 11 out of the box. Maybe update-&-reset your Bios if you dont feel comfortable to dial in the settings yourself.
  12. Does it help setting your connection as metered ?
  13. A switch-part of your router is per definition a Layer-2 Switch, just as as ordinary 15€ 5-port switch. There is no difference in how they work or act
  14. +1 for trees appear too big in many scenarios. The lower and slower you move, the more off it appears.
  15. Try 64 first, if they work flawless you can try 80 but it‘s likely going to downgrade speed and more latency IF it boots. Try it, you can‘t break it that way
  16. It's a dangerous endeavor to create a thing that you do not completely understand how it works inside to help you solve problems you can't completely understand and therefor not solve yet. The danger is the boundary between knowing and NOT knowing that humans cross without noticing ( Ignorance fails to recognize itself ) You will not be able to fully qualify the answer(s) given by AI as you never understood the full thing first place but you will qualify it without being qualified/knowledgeable ! There is the danger.
  17. FWIW, one more aspect, it may only apply to a few but it's valid. As of now, if you want DCS on Linux, the only way that I am aware of and using myself ( Dual Boot ) is via Steam and Proton. I myself buy directly and if I ever need to run DCS solely on Linux there will hopefully be a way to use the standard install with it's licenses ( maybe there already is ). Only the first few modules I own were bought via Steam, so when I give Linux DCS a spin I am limited to just a few modules and caucasus.
  18. I keep it simple Depending on how you use DCS, SP or MP, lots of F10 and F2/3, heavy missions… yes, it will help. I can easily force my DCS way above 50GB usage if I want to. I assume a good portion of RAM is cached, aka a QoL feature that if you don’t have it you have stutter or some other delay. More slower RAM ( if needed ) over faster RAM with lower quantity. similar to torque, you can‘t substitute torque with higher RPM.
  19. Me too, my first Asus was way back in the early 90's and I sold and used myself a lot of them over those years. I had such bad experience with some boards some years ago that I finally decided, no more Asus until they change attitude. I have mostly sold Gigabyte for the last few years and only 1 guy is not happy with his PC, but that is a different story. ..in addition..I haven't sold a single Intel since Ryzen came out as well. Times change, so do I
  20. That's not enough to remedy the damage. AMD and Intel need to respond to the XMP/Expo vs. Warranty issue as well. You shouldn't be allowed to advertise a feature but using it voids your warranty. Anyway, does the new Bios really fix the issue, I thought I read otherwise today but I might be wrong and the Bios is newer than that article I flew over.
