M03 A week back when Wulf103, Mistermann, and myself had an outstanding run. The boys were in one helo and I was solo. Good times! I added some old 80's music because that is exactly what was going through my head when we were flying this.

CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
Good stuff! And great catch. I did not record the video, but just tried it real quick. Much easier to control as stated. Plus it opens up a clear view to turn the bottom lights on for aft, mid, and forward cargo operations. Cool stuff! -
I think this is a solid plan. 4 Hellfire's would absolutely do the trick. I think you could get away with the fuel state. Let us know how it goes!

CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
ABSOLUTE Solid find! Thank you for demonstrating and posting. I was wondering where the other 3 stations were. This must be one of them. Makes me wonder where the remaining 2 are at. I will give this a shot later. Keep the new finds coming! Glad to see this forum bringing out the cooler side of the Chinook. -
CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
Not to be mean my friend but I am trying to figure out what you are asking. Are you playing in desktop mode or VR? I only play in VR, so even though Engineer stations 1, 2, and 3 are static, in VR I can look around everywhere and zoom in when/where as needed. I am not sure how it is in desktop mode, but I would assume if you had the cursor activated, you can hit ctrl + c and deactivate the cursor and look around with the mouse. Hope this helps. -
Hey there BoFrost, Super fired up to see you flying the campaign. I will tag onto what Mistermann said above as I am typically his wingman or copilot when flying these campaigns. Our aim of the campaign is to really bring the scout/recon experience to DCS and drive home the Coop mind set with 2 or more players. That being said, we wanted to also make it available to anyone's play style to include single player, allowing for a more unrealistic load out scenario to compensate for the lack of a second or third player. After listening to and reading books from former Kiowa pilots and even OH-6 crews, we discovered these aircraft were going into combat with limited ammo and were strongly focused on their role as scouts. This was to include objectives such as close air support, searching for high value targets, intel gathering flights, and assisting gunships such as Apache's or Cobras (Cayuse days) in Hunter Killer missions. We wanted the Kiowa to feel like it has a more role/platform specific objective with these mission's driving the pilots to make critical decisions to engage or avoid certain combat scenarios based on the limited ammo they are carrying. In M03, we wanted to simulate a QRF (Quick Reaction Force) responding to and attacking our SF team as they were trying to bug out. While under fire, in a situation like this, the Kiowa's objective would be to provide CAS if in the area so the SF team could get to the extract point. Eliminate every insurgent would be a risk to your aircraft and running out of ammo. In a real-world scenario, AAA (Kords in the Mission) would be a major concern to any extract helo coming in to pull the boys out. To keep the player on their toes, we made the AAA mobile, forcing the recon aspect of searching for and eliminating the AAA while still being able to knock down some of the QRF and forcing the pilot to maintain situational awareness. We want to be flexible for single players while still trying to keep the recon feel, which can be difficult at times. Flying 2 man is blast and really does change the tempo and increase the fun factor in my opinion. We have taken your feedback (appreciated) and will be making some modifications to add a "fat Cow" at the airport for refueling. I really look forward to your continued feedback on the campaign. I think you are going to dig the missions coming up.

CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
If you look at the keys I bound mine to in the video, I have the open/close bound to one key. The kicker is, you need to hold it down to open and the same to close it. Promise it works! If you just click it, it will not open right up. My assumption is, it is simulating the open of each latch. You can see each latch being pulled up in the bottom left and right corner when you open it. I would say in ED's defense (I cannot prove this) is maybe its not fleshed out and in a state where they wanted to show it off, but it's implemented to a degree. Super cool function though. I will do a few more videos soon. I will do one on loading the dynamic cargo soon. Pretty cool stuff. As this module progresses, the guys and I have some cool ideas for our Coop Vietnam experince we will put out there for everyone. -
Kicking this thread off to start posting CH47 videos and photos.

CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
So I finally figured out the majority of what you can do with the Engineer utilizing the cargo hook. Slightly longer video but I go through the key binds and process from start to finish hooking, transitioning, and dropping the cargo. All done in VR. Pretty trippy looking through the trapdoor in VR at your cargo swinging below. Looking forward to when ED implements the Coop so we can actually have someone flying and the other as the engineer. -

Agreed! Quick note, if you bind the ramp lower/raise key to something on your joystick, or however it works best for you, you can raise/lower it will standing at the back as the engineer. Pretty cool to do in flight. -
I second this!
-
My ultimate wish with the pilots in general in DCS. From the brief room to the aircraft, and around the carrier as already promised.
-
I second this motion for this! Much easier with the mouse like in the Huey instead of the Joystick or head movement.
-
No, I am seated in a Next Level Boeing Chair. The key bind "right CTRL + [ or ]" actually walks the engineer down to each station. I am in VR in the video. You do not even have to turn your head. Once the Engineer gets to the station, you can look around, zoom in, use your cursor to interact, ect..... You can also look around as he walks. Its pretty wicked. Still trying to figure out how to get the cargo hook operational. I can open the trap door but have not discovered how to lower the hook.

I just tried this and unfortunately, no dice with the mouse. I see the axis bound, but in the special options I only see two options under CH47, head control or controller. I did not see any options for a mouse. Tried the controller option and cannot get the mouse to move the guns. Any advice would be appreciated. This is in VR

Oh hell yeah! I am glad I am not the only one who forgot "Belsimtech's" promise. LOL. They said they were entertaining a J model. It would be cool if it is still on the board out there in the fog. I will absolutely take VN's Golf model for my Cayuse any day though.

Good stuff!

Right Ctrl + [ or ] to walk the Engineer to each station in the Chinook. Just remember you have to hit the 3 key to go to the Engineer. Cool stuff in VR!
-
I found one of the coolest functions flying last night I have not seen anyone discuss, walking to each station in the Chinook as the Engineer. If you press right Ctrl + [ or }, the Engineer will walk to the hoist station or the ramp control/cabin lights station at the rear of the helo. Right now, in the options it looks like there are other stations he can walk to, but only 3 (including the default) are available for the time being. I was going to ask ED or Bignewy if the WASD keys were ever considered for a free walk around the Chinook, but to be honest, this works fantastic in VR. I plan on doing some more videos with the guys later over the Marianas. The below video demonstrates what I am talking about. It is a crazy feeling in VR when you are walking towards the pilots in flight. Good stuff!

You and I both brother! Really looking forward to the Cobra coming to DCS. Now that we have the Chinook and Cayuse, I feel naked without her for support.

ViolentNomad, does this mean there will be an external folder where we can drop MP3's and cycle through tracks in game? I know it's not exactly a tape deck or cassette player, but I always wondered if someone could develop this. I am curious if you can only use OGG files or if it has to be one big track that replays itself. Absolutely cannot wait for the Cobra to come out!

Much appreciated BIGNEWY!
