Rockstars both of you! Thank you so much Heatblur for bringing the Phantom to DCS. I grew up around the old girl as a kid and could not be happier with your product. Thank you for the quick response.

I did a quick video on cockpit lighting because the rotary knobs and switches where in a few obscure locations. Only question I have is for the side console lights. There is a switch to adjust the floods between dim, medium, and bright, but no off switch for the floods. Then there is a separate rotary knob to adjust the back lights on the side consoles. It appears you cannot turn the floods off unless you completely turn the back lights off. The video demonstrates below. Curious if there is a way to turn the floods off on the side consoles or if this is the way it is in real life. Not a deal breaker at all. I just have to fly on dim with the floods and reduce the backlighting by turning it down to turn the floods down.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you erased the files in your C:\Users\****\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\fxo and C:\Users\****\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\metashaders2 folder? This is old school but I do it after every patch to clear any old cache/files that could conflict with the new. When you launch each map for the first time after the update, it take a tad longer because it is regenerating those files, but I feel like it has helped me avoid so many problems I hear on the forums. I have flown the Cayuse as early as last night with a ton of stuff on the Marianas map with the boys and have not had any issues. Also flown it on Afghanistan with 0 stutters. I would suggest trying the above method. It wont hurt anything. Those files automatically regenerate when you launch DCS. -

Maybe, maybe not. As long as they know about it is what matters. I am sure a change will come soon. -
reported Supercarrier: L alt+c doesn't work in VR
Devil 505 replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
This is also reported in the bug section of the Super Carrier forum, but for the sake of visibility, I will post the same post here as well. "I can confirm the same issues as above in MT with VR. I actually shot a video below. Performance is rockin pretty good but I get no cursor and I am getting incomplete 3D models of the Hornet and Tomcat when I spawn in with them and view the aircraft from the tower. I created a quick mission and have only tried it on the Kola map. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. The video is short but demonstrates the issue. Any help would be appreciated ED." -

This was headache the boys and I had to figure out. I did a quick video for you and the Cayuse pilots out there struggling with the radio. The mod is working just fine. There are a few switches and volume knobs that are off in the default state. Check out the short video below and it should correct any issues you are having. I stole the screen shot you took. LOL. -
Got the Hornet video knocked out. This was right after the Cayuse flight above. Good times. I am disappointed in some of the hate being spread about this map. I feel like it is not being given the credit where it is due. This video demonstrates the hard work put into it. Looking forward to the future updates and good times ahead flying over Afghanistan.

Middle Eastern Asset pack for current/future Middle East maps
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You guys are the cats ass! Looking forward to this pack coming out! -
I will be the first to kick this one off since it has not been added yet. Loving the hell out of this map. And honestly not having any performance issues in VR like others have been stating. Really looking forward to combat ops on this map. The boys and I took a flight this morning over the Kandahar region. Awesome as hell in the Cayuse.

The boys and I took a flight this morning over the Kandahar region on the new Afghanistan map. Awesome as hell in the Cayuse. We need side seats added for a simulated Littlebird night insertion now. Thanks again gents for making this mod. Never ceases to amaze me how much fun we have in it. Perfect helo for site seeing new maps and dropping high explosives on insurgents! -
Middle Eastern Asset pack for current/future Middle East maps
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
LOL. I would tend ot agree. And I being from this time period over there, I get we do not want 1000's of AI people on the ground, but as Mistermann stated above, and variation of combatant models........MAYBE some man dresses and goats. Just a more authentic group of adversaries rather than one or two guys that look like a current Russian unit with a towel on his head. I liked what we saw in the release trailer with the one insurgent. I am hoping this is one of many variants. -
New Look and Feel for the South Atlantic map
Devil 505 replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
I had to add to this thread. Thorughly impressed with the SA map. It blew me away so much today when flying it, I had to make a side by side of my experiences flying over. Watch till the end. I was blown away coming around the mountain low level and running into the Iceberg. The beauty in the northern part of the map is fantastic. There is no better way to experience this map than in VR. Desktop does not give it justice! -
Any hint at a release date for the old girl? Absolutely enjoyed the latest video. Fantastic work on the cockpit. This is going to compliment the Cayuse like they were family.

Middle Eastern Asset pack for current/future Middle East maps
Devil 505 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I get where you are coming from for sure, but to me, DCS is beyond "just good enough." I do not think it is a stretch to go as far as Mistermann has suggested and drop a handful of different insurgent model types into the sim. From the perspective of including what appear to be non-combatant's, I could not agree more. Afghanistan was a Guerilla war fought not only against men, but women and children to. I know because I had several friends killed over there in Afghanistan because of this exact reason. It was not an isolated event to have children throwing grenades on roofs or provided by Al Qaeda or teenagers with AK's and bomb vests. I feel like incorporating Men and Women would accurately depict the environments encountered over there, especially after flying the Afghan map last night. Even though I would like to see the teenage terrorist in there, I am pretty sure bringing children targets into DCS might put them in a bad light. Casmo has even mentioned in an older video it would be nice to see a scenario where you had to visually ID your targets like he did on deployment. Picking people up on FLIR or during the day and identifying a specific threat would increase the authenticity and feel of the operation. Making sure you were not about to fire on friendlies or civilians. Looking forward to seeing what is to come for these regions when it pertains to ground assets. -

LMFAO!!!!!!!!! You can never drop enough of those into the jungle. -
This has been a topic brought up in the past, but I am curious if there will ever be a Middle Eastern asset pack released to flesh out the current maps we have. With Afghanistan close to release, Syria, Persian Gulf, Sinai, and Iraq coming, are there plans for ED to make an asset pack similar to the WW2? The current Red Infantry are not an authentic fit for any of these desert maps. Before someone mentions it, yes Russia could fit a possible Afghan/Russian conflict, but overall, the current ground assets, specifically the lack of insurgents and middle eastern adversaries are nonexistent minus a few technical trucks. Helo's are becoming a predominant focus in DCS and with close air support being a priority role, troop extractions/engagements, and supply operations to name a few, when can we expect to hear something about fleshing out further ground assets for these Middle Eastern conflicts? I know AI behavior and character movement is a current focus, but has there been any discussion on incorporating further technology to enhance the ground troop combat? I would be stating the obvious Afghanistan and Iraq would be missing out terribly if we do not see some this incorporated. Troops in contact scenarios would require identifying friend from foe, looking for insurgent positions in towns, villages, mountains ect.... I feel like without any discussion on incorporating these fundamental requirements for these maps, we are going to kill a certain level of immersion. My buddies and I are doing a lot of helo flights with the Kiowa and OH-6 and it has taken some significant time looking for free mods and scripting missions to come close to some of these scenarios. I look forward to hearing what ED might have to say and the community. I feel the Helo pilots, myself included, are missing an aspect of Digital Combat that is just as important as the aircraft. Below are some photos/examples of insurgents and civilians I would like to see in a similar fashion incorporated in the sim for a more realistic feel. The following are Al Qaeda, Isis, and Hezbollah

My wingman first night flight in the Kiowa and short skirmish. Like the Gazelle, always a great time to fly after dark.

I did a quick comparison side by side. I guess what I meant to say was the Jester AI in the Tomcat does not allow you to select connecting the air source, ground power, or removing the chocks. It would be easier in VR if this was implemented like it is in the F-4. Heatblur had stated the Tomcat was getting the same upgrade the Phantom was. I was curious if we would see this implementation anytime soon. Not a deal breaker or anything, but we are also going to be able to change the voices with Jester AI as well, so it would be cool to have this function in the Tomcat to when it came to requesting the above in game. Also, I am with you on the visible crew and equipment for the Tomcat! I would be surprised if this was not already being discussed internally. I do not recall seeing anything about it though.
-
Morning Heatblur team, Can you provide any insight on when we might expect to see Jester 2.0 with the Tomcat? Also is there going to be a ground crew similar to the F-4E? Really digging what you have done there. It would be nice to have the ground crew option in Jester 2.0 for the Tomcat to include ground power and air. Hoping this is something that is added. Also, will the short and long holds be the same in the Tomcat for acquiring air ti air targets like in the F-4E? I am also digging that. All the hard work is much appreciated! I grew up around both these aircraft at NAS Dallas as a kid. I never would have dreamed the day would come where I was flying both of them in VR to the fidelity your team has accomplished. It truly is a dream come true. You will complete my Naval Aviation flight sim dream when the Intruder comes out.

So here is that video for you as well. Hit me up if you have any more questions. It took a while to get to this set up. Not exactly cheap, but next to working out and real aviation, DCS is my biggest hobby.

So the button I have bound for the gear in MSFS is the red thumb switch on the ThrustMaster throttle. I have the raise/lower gear bound to the back pull on that button. The flaps are bound to the flap button on the throttle. I usually bind them as increment up and down. I bound the starter switch on the throttle to the index finger trackball depress, and the second starter to the red pinky button on the throttle. That is literally about it for the throttle on MSFS. Then the stick I have the trim bound to the thumb hat and I believe that is it. The rest I am usually able to accomplish with the mouse in VR. I am uploading my controls video to YouTube now and will attack a link to this thread when it's done uploading.

I have been using the Thrustmaster HOTAS. MSFS key binds are massive headache to bind to be honest. The starter switch binds are twitchy. For example, in DCS you bind the starter switch and hold it down, it cranks and starts. In MSFS you hold it down and it's like it is flipping the switch back and forth. I have to this dance with starter switch for engines 1 and 2 on the intruder where I click it a couple times then hold it to start each engine. The easy thing about MSFS is you are only really binding the gears, flaps, trim, and starter switches. Since it is the same for all aircraft, I usually do not bind anything else other than custom views. DCS world by far has the easiest and best way to identify and bind keys. As with DCS, I try my best to manipulate everything in cockpit in MSFS, but it is almost impossible. I only fly in VR. I am about to shoot a video on my set up which I will hopefully get knocked out this weekend. I have had several requests for one since I have been posting my flights with the OH-6A mod. Let me know if I need to go into further detail on MSFS key binds. I have literally spent hours trying to find the best setup to use for every aircraft.
