  1. People read too much into those 20XX and beyond videos anyway. Most of that is hype, and if that's what you want that's fine. But really, the only thing we should care about is what's said openly and without reservations by the devs (possibly repeatedly) and even that is subject to change.
  2. Would a native DCS World linux port be possible with Vulkan? Since Vulkan is supposedly an advanced version of OpenGL, theoretically at least it should be possible.
  3. I was referring to the setting that Eagle Dynamics calls IPD scale. Depending on the values set there cockpits can look bigger or smaller in VR and this has nothing to do with Heatblur, but sometimes the correct value that looks "good" in one jet, is completely off in another and a lot of people are unfamiliar with this setting in DCS World
  4. Hopefully IronMike's post indicates that more Jester autonomy is incoming. I dislike to micromanage Jester, in effect he becomes a sort of interface to the AWG9 in that case. I get that a lot of people want that, I'd like for Jester to become more "humanlike" and sort of do his own thing as much as possible.
  5. I'd settle for better PERFORMING shadows. In fact I'd settle for better performing DCS World in general.
  6. To me this is nitpicking. The only thing that can be a little bit off is the scale of the VR cockpit, which can be easily changed within the DCS graphical options.
  7. The only thing that looks kind of weird to me are the vapour over wing vortices, they seem kind of overdone. As if the F16 was pulling a very high AoA to maintain that refueling contact.
  8. Not sure, but when I think about it it might actually be correct behavior for the Hind. For the life of me I can't see why the devs would not correct this behavior if it isn't correct behavior.
  9. Is there a link to this video?
  10. Well I guess that is a step above the built in presets, but how exactly does it measure your system performance in the first place? The best way would be to run a benchmark of some kind within the DCS World engine, and then make a determination based on the results of that benchmark. Wasn't this the point of your OP?
  11. Unless I'm completely off-base this does not look even close to what you are asking for, as this is looks like a preset value optimizer, which is basically almost the same thing as what we already have under Graphical Options in-game. Or does this run some kind of benchmark on your PC and then based on the results of that benchmark optimizes those settings for any given PC configuration?
  12. You are assuming that it would use the replay function at all. A proper scenario would probably be a bit more involved than that, and a standardized one (I.E. using the same scenario, mission file, free module etc.) would be pre-programmed for a single specific run each time on a client's machine. As such it shouldn't even be susceptible to the regular problems of a track replay, otherwise it would be completely useless. In any case, it would not be a simple task to implement something like this in DCS World, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be very useful either as a benchmarking or a bug-finding tool. (in specific cases).
  13. No it wouldn't, that's the opposite of any kind of standardization test, and is actually the very opposite of what would be useful in any kind of benchmark scenario. (I.E. You want to have the most standardized test across all platforms)
  14. This is not even remotely true in most games that feature it, and repeating it ad-infinitum will not make it true. Not least of the problems with a general statement like this is that it's stated as factual while in reality this feature doesn't even exist in the game yet, and has no basis in reality. The only downside to the OPs suggested feature is the time and manhours it would take to implement in DCS World.
  15. To me the the bigger issue in DCS is the "size" of the notch. Not sure how else to phrase it. In some ways it is very easy to spoof AIM54s or the AWG9 simply by flying perpendicular to the beaming radar source, and when I say perpendicular I mean a very "sloppy" perpendicular. For the most part this is true vs any aircraft radar in DCS but for some reason it is most apparent when facing Tomcats. Entering the notch just feels too easy, and it doesn't matter if it's TWS or STT, whether you are above or below the radar source etc. you can even do it against an active AIM54 with very high degrees of success. Not sure whether this is a "DCSism" or if it really was this way in real life. I'm not a real fighter pilot, what the hell do I know right? To me it just feels overdone. But if people more knowledgeable than me tell me, yep that's the way it was, I'm prepared to accept that and move on.
  16. If you can afford one (or find one) I'd go for a graphics card upgrade. Just don't expect miracles. I did a lot of upgrades to get satisfactory performance in DCS World and well....it's still not satisfactory, but maybe my expectations are too high.
  17. From what I understand (thanks kgiller3 and Raptor9) the autopilot is going to be nothing like the Hind's AP Channels.
  18. The OPs question is not that unreasonable. There have been plenty of situations where for whatever reasons fighter jets with stand-off BVR weapons have found themselves in WVR territory for whatever reason (rules of engagement, blind luck, whatever). As a theoretical question it's not within the realms of fantasy. The answer as always though is, it depends and more often than not it usually depends more on the pilot/crew than on the airframes in question.
  19. I have the Reverb G2. Sometimes I wish I went for the Quest 2. If you want ease of use, I'd get the Quest 2. If you want very good clarity in the sweet spot at the expense of performance, get the G2. Don't buy the Rift S, I have it as well, and while it is a nice headset that works great out of the box, you will be disappointed with it's visual fidelity.
  20. Just refund the pre-order on Steam, and buy it from the DCS homepage when you transfer to the stand-alone version.
  21. Do you want to argue semantics with me? Yes they went with the Eurofighter, TrueGrit was integrated and merged with Heatblur. It no longer exists, and is part of Heatblur, and as such the Eurofighter effectively became Heatblur's project. Not sure what your point is really, we have no idea whether Heatblur or anyone else is working on the F-111 at this point.
  22. As someone who recently did the exactly same thing, I can tell you that for the most part it's not worth it. However, I DO have a much more capable graphics card than you do, and the i9 does provide quite a bit of headroom with regards to the i5 with regards to overclocking. (At least mine did). It did also improve and limited the framedrops that occurred when playing in VR. At least until the second to last patch that actually stopped me from playing DCS completely. So in short, in your case I doubt you will see much, if any difference with that upgrade in DCS World.
  23. I opened a thread about the F-111 on Heatblur's forums, with the hope that they were working on it ages ago. Turns out they went with the Treadrop and the Eurofighter, no biggie. Hopefully someone bring this wonderful bomber to DCS World at some point. I would love to fly it.
  24. Looks like a good way to get some warmups going for people returning or new to the sim. Good stuff.
  25. Yep, thats a great point.
