So, the flight begins after a taxi to the threshold of the runway. The ground handling feels quite responsive for an aircraft of this age and size. You hold in brakes, throttle up to 85%, and let go of the brakes. You start rolling, move the throttle into afterburner, and gently pulling the stick full back. When the nose starts to rise, gently bring the stick back to center, and the aircraft will rotate on its own. Pitch for 10 degrees of nose up attitude and build up airspeed. The moment you establish a positive climb, gear comes up. At 200 knots, you're bringing up the flaps. At about 300 knots, come out of burner and at 350 use pitch to maintain that airspeed on climb out. The Phantom, despite its immensity, feels quite light in controls. You're looking at a maneuvering speed of about 450 knots. It rates pretty well for 3rd gen, but the climb performance can only be described as obscene. Pitch for 45 degrees, go full burner, and you'll be getting noise complaints from the ISS. Those J79s, when combined together, produce a disgusting amount of power and it shows. You can yank hard, wind down your airspeed indicator, but then you can wind it right back up by just letting the nose down a little, if at all. The performance sounds down right 4th gen, but the controls still feel subject to inertia and still hold a weight to them. It absolutely loves the vertical, pure and simple. Landing is also fairly straight forward. Below 250 knots, drop gear. 220, flaps. Maintain level flight and keep looking over your shoulder. The moment your wingtip is pointing at the end of the runway, start your base turn. Maintain on speed AoA and it feels like you'll be more dependent on rudder here than roll. Trim the jet for on speed for final so you just need to mess with throttles. You're looking at about 140 knots to 160 knots for approach speed, dependent on weight. And she even sets herself down without much effort. In short, the Phantom is a joy to fly. It'll behave well at low speeds if you're treat it with care and then become an absolute monster once you open the throttle.

New Manston Airfield Normandy 2.0, ATC does not respond.

You truly are our savior. -
For the delays we received, it's unacceptable the condition this was launched in. ED has really been slipping in terms of prioritizing what is important.

Authorization failed after latest patch
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to RyanFlint's topic in Flaming Cliffs Bugs & Problems
I'm more shocked that, given the delays this patch had, something like this slipped through. This is kind of ridiculous. -
One thing to also consider about a Cold War gone hot in the Fulda Gap in regards to carrier forces in theatre is timeframe. How long has that gone on for? Who has come out worse for wear in that time period? It could be that the GIUK gap is secured and then those Carrier assets could be committed for inland work. These are things that must be considered by mission makers.

I doubt it. There's been no mention of that, plus they'd need to see an example of it recreate it.

Another set of demos, one with an F-14. The gun still goes right for the middle. And, a Ka-50 in flight for an Igla. Once again, it seems to go for center of mass. Color me surprised to discover that Reddit is wrong!

I always see this stated without anything to substantiate it. For what it's worth, I haven't noticed myself getting pilot killed all that often. EDIT: Parked an A-10 next to a ZU-23. It fired centermass. I didn't even bother to close the A-10's canopy. Just dropped her down and it went right for center mass.

How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom

Oh no, some people play a game differently to me. -

I'm breaking out my copy of The Offspring's Splinter and getting ready to hit up some America's Army because this looks like it's 2003! My own: -
If a thread is going to harm sales compared to the deluge of Youtube content, I'd be REAL surprised. If this thread did anything, it delayed sales from people intending to get it but who will now probably wait for a better price or for more updates. Which, frankly, is fair.

Player or AI OH-58?

It would lesson the work, but there's still a lot of work. A lot. So much so that it calls into question profitability. This is what we are told from the actual developers, from ED to HB. That's just how it is. Also, community surveys aren't terribly reliable and don't provide a good snapshot of that.

It'd be absolutely hilarious. But, why would they lockdown just one aspect instead of the whole thing? SSL certification is one of the many things that will tinkle in your Cornflakes in software development.

The issue with more FC3 fidelity aircraft, according to numerous developers, is that they aren't that much easier to make than the full fidelity. You'll notice that the aircraft chosen for FC 2024 have already existed in DCS for quite a long time. You still have to make the cockpit. You still have to make the FM meet ED's standards. You still have to give it the fit and finish they want. You're just leaving out some avionics and systems management aspects. Sure, there are some who maintain this isn't the case, but I don't think I've seen any of those who do actually be a part of any development team.

There are several reasons I left game dev for aviation. The customers were one of them.

You're not losing out on much by waiting, to be fair. Keep it in mind, watch for sales, etc. It's a lot of fun. They're on it. So, that's real good news.

The upset I've seen in regards to the Kiowa seems like low effort meme-driven parroting of others opinions. I've put a few hours into it, peeling myself away from the F-4, and I have to say it's pretty good. The art is fine, the FM is good, and getting improved with bug fixes already planned out. The sounds need work, even if accurate. Higher quality sampling is in order, here. So, I fail to see reason for the outrage. It sounds like a bunch of bandwagon activity because it's cool to be cynical on the internet.
