Love that simplistic menu music. I've been playing since DCS: Black Shark, which I got on a Steam sale in 2012, I believe. Then just got DCS World when I found out I could fly the KA-50 AND the A-10 in the same mission.

There is a hilarious issue where the FM does a mischief and you can fly at stupid air speeds sideways, but that's so far out of the envelope, it's impossible to expect. It's good to find these bugs, though. Overall, it's pretty good. Once the first patch drops and fixes somethings? Good recommend.

Light an afterburner on the GFM project
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to Gunfreak's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It's tempting to want to concentrate on something like the 21's AI being hilariously wrong, (it is, it needs to be fixed ASAP and will only grow further acute now that we have the F-4 and that is such a classic matchup) but with software development? You'd swear code is sapient and it wants to make you as miserable as possible. You're being asked to handle a dozen brush fires. So, there are limitations on how much attention certain issues do get. Those limitations scale with time, as well. So, it is unfeasible to concentrate entirely on a singular issue akin to the AI MiG-21's denial of physics. However, this does not excuse ED's lackadaisical reaction to this issue existing. They really need to learn from this. When you get an aircraft, you're always going to ask "What do I pit it against?" If it's something like the F-4? It has an established OpFor and match up of some notoriety. This basically means that we don't just use an intense magnifying glass on the F-4, but also the MiG-21. Expect similar scrutiny toward the MiG-17 when it drops and then once again when we get the F-8 Crusader. It's as if you were to make a baseball game that had an emphasis on team rivalries, placed all your effort into creating the Yankees but then threw in the Red Sox as an after thought. -
I almost choked on my drink. That's a gas.

Given the average age of DCS players, the latter becomes very attractive.

I have to agree, that'd look super good.

It's okay, bro. The mazes on the back of kids' menus vex me, eternally.

Can someone post a .trck or explain how to do this? I'm trying to reproduce it, but I just drop like a rock.

How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to Victory205's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Neat, it's still an inaccuracy in the software that needs to be fixed. It doesn't matter if it's predictable or not. It needs to be addressed, period. Aside from that, don't be too hard on yourself about the gunnery. The Phantom feels more stiff in Yaw than others, at least to me. But, I'm also used to much lighter fighters like the MiG-21 itself or the F-5E. -

Knock the 21 AI down to "Rookie" and it does alleviate it some what. I've heard the same applies to the F1, but I can't comment as I'm not at all knowledgeable about it. All I know is that it's fast fun. -

What do you enjoy most in the Phantom?

Honestly, everything. It's my new favorite go-to. -
Is it normal engine off during flights so often ?
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to karasinicoff's topic in General Problems
You could be overspeeding the engine. The MiG-21's intake can't handle more than mach 2.1 or 1,300km/h, whichever comes first. At that speed, the ducting can't slow the airflow to subsonic speeds and it'll flame out. EDIT: Forgot to add "which ever comes first" which is pretty important to learn. -
Light an afterburner on the GFM project
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to Gunfreak's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would post some tracks, but am I going to get warned again for constructive criticism that isn't at all insulting? I'm sorry that the state of things in DCS aren't all peachy and some things are absolutely unacceptable, but how is it at all insulting to suggest it's a tremendous fumble to leave these features unaddressed for years? Who ever is deciding where the software is headed is making clear mistakes and pointing that needs to be done. I don't know what AI MiG-21 FM you're using, but seeing it pull 8G without bleeding speed is not at all reflective of real life. It's getting ridiculous how long these basic things go unaddressed. Do we really need brand new infantry models when other parts of the sim are in dire need of work? -
If I'm flying rotorcraft? I'm flying the Hind. If I'm flying fixed wing? I'm flying Phantom, now. It has replaced the Fishbed as my usual go to.

Provide a .trck file, I should've specified. It's the file type that replays are saved as.

I look forward to the next delay.

The pipper's direct position isn't a good reference for the Grom. Place the pipper slightly above your intended target and lock there, instead. I can swat tanks, trucks, you name it without much effort. Truthfully, the RP-22 of the MiG-21bis can't lock for the Grom, it was added for fun. So, this isn't an intended function of the MiG-21bis even though previous Fishbeds could.

There's always the possibility of leaving polite criticism, as well. Far be it from me to suggest civility, though. -

New Pay Model / subscription discussion
MiG21bisFishbedL replied to MacEwan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It'd be extremely difficult to sell a monthly fee to people like me who have already purchased several things. It offers us no value whatsoever. Sure, there's the altruism of making DCS the best it could be, but realistically? $15 a month isn't going to do that. At that point, it just become a charity for employed developers. I'm not so altruistic, I think. Sometimes, throwing money at a problem isn't enough.
