Why on Earth would they ban this?

Sweet. Got two spare tablets to go with my existing two that'll give me a sexy Tomcat pit! Thanks man!

Totally understand, but here are some suggestions for the Tomcat pilot when you have time: ACM Radio and TACAN Lights panel Left knee panel (kneel, antiskid, etc) Fuel panel Etc

How do you get ASW working with the new Steam Beta for WMR?
GunSlingerAUS replied to joebloggs's topic in Virtual Reality
Yep, locked at 45fps. You're right, it's not too bad when the other aircraft are a medium distance away, but I find the stuttering under about 1nm too much for me. Glad you're happy with it - I'm hoping the 3080 Ti will allow me to hit 60fps minimum, in which case I'll happily run the Reverb at 60Hz and play all day. Just wish NVIDIA would hurry the fck up, my C9 monitor desperately needs HDMI 2.1 so I can bust past 60Hz at 4K. -
How do you get ASW working with the new Steam Beta for WMR?
GunSlingerAUS replied to joebloggs's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah, tried it again. I solely fly the F-14, and with all details turned extremely low, I was able to play the instant action night landing with relatively little ghosting. It was an excellent experience. Unfortunately, as soon as other aircraft were involved, the horrible artefacting/ghosting returned, in both the instant action missions of Dogfight and Case 1 recovery. I'm guessing it's more noticeable in high speed aircraft, where the ghost frames have to make up for a much larger gap in spacial positioning. Having said that, even the Spitfire instant action BF-109 dogfight degraded from a pleasant experience at the start, to another haunting ghost-fest as soon as I got in a turn fight with the bogeys. Can I ask which aircraft you fly, and what kind of missions? It's possible you're playing slower, ground-attacked focused scenarios? -

I'm about to try the new WMR tab within Steam - what are the optimal settings to remove ghosting from reprojection? Should I set reprojection to Auto? Per App setting? Advice appreciated. -
Oh my gosh, can't wait for more Tomcat loving! I don't currently use the RIO at all, but I'll check out these panels to see if they help from the front seat. Not sure if you saw the recent poll on aircraft popularity, but this might be useful for you to determine which modules are worth developing on to get the highest use: https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/hh5vt0/results_from_atamir16s_recent_survey_colored_as/

How do you get ASW working with the new Steam Beta for WMR?
GunSlingerAUS replied to joebloggs's topic in Virtual Reality
Hmm, are you sure about that? As far as I can tell, both ASW and Steam Reprojection are built around the fundamental technology of reprojection: https://www.oculus.com/blog/introducing-asw-2-point-0-better-accuracy-lower-latency/ Sure, they're *slightly* different, but both have the same negative side effects, and both are designed to be used in worst case scenarios, when there's an unexpected performance decrease. They are not meant to be used 100% of the time, as seen when playing DCS. -

GunSlingerAUS replied to joebloggs's topic in Virtual Reality
Well, it's simply impossible to not have ghosting if reprojection is enabled. Because that is how it works. It creates a fake frame to fill in the gap where a real one should be, and fast moving objects appear to ghost or leave a trail as a result. If reprojection didn't create this side-effect, every game engine on the planet would use it, regardless if it was VR or not. Imagine being able to double your framerate with no performance hit and no image quality hit. Sadly that's impossible. You simply haven't noticed it - lucky you! I suggest you don't play any other game in VR, where reprojection is only used a fraction of the time for unexpected performance dips. If you do, you'll see how bad VR in DCS is. -

Oooh, interesting. Do the reprojection effects still cause ghosting? -
Grab AoA indexer on Google Play for Android devices. I'm using an old galaxy s9,an it's awesome

Horrible FPS drop in latest 2.5.6 beta
GunSlingerAUS replied to Maksim Savelev's topic in Virtual Reality
I suggest setting your memory to 15-15-18, then stripping off while lathering yourself in goose fat then do a line dance under a full moon. This tweak will probably work just as well as most found on these forums. -
While the idea of adjusting to match physical dimensions sounds good, doesn't this stuff the object drawing at distance?
-
I'm guessing it's more of a DCS issue in general than an F14 issue, given how lovingly everything else is modelled.

SP Campaign: Operation Earnest Will

No complaint at all, so far I'm loving it! Just wasn't sure if I'd stuffed the install. If you need a sexy Aussie voice however... -
SP Campaign: Operation Earnest Will
GunSlingerAUS replied to SpikeGondorff's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Quick question - is Jester's dialogue voiced, or just text as I'm seeing at the moment? -
Yeah, that seemed a good size. It's just a pain to have to move my head to see all the instruments. I think I'll stick with 50% for combat and other modes where sight range is most important, then zoom out for take off, refuelling, landing and formation flying.
-
What zoom value presents the most realistic field of view for the pilot in the Tomcat? Is 50% the perfect value? When set to this, I can't see many of my instruments, or my mirror. Note I'm running 3840 x 2160 on a 58 inch screen, sitting approximately 18 inches away from the screen, with middle of screen at eye level. I've noticed that if I zoom out to see more instruments, to around 30%, I can't see the SC until it's about 12nm away. But at 50% zoom I can see it at 20nm...

[RESOLVED] AoA indexer not readable

While we wait for a fix, the DCS AoA indexer app is free on the Google Play store, and works brilliantly. -
[Open discussion] Should we all move to the stable?
GunSlingerAUS replied to astazou's topic in DCS 2.9
Until ED stops putting 100% of its promotional and marketing resources into the OB, then there's no way that stable will become the most used. It's that simple. You can't blame the users for using the version that ED is constantly promoting. And they do this for one reason - money. OB = EA = ongoing financing. It's not a great place to be in, and I hope ED can get themselves out of it, but after 15+ years of loving their products, warts and all, I can't see them changing. -
hey guys, with Bailey's kind help I got my ATC working. To get VA to open the ATC menu when you say the letters A T C, just edit Bailey's profile in VA, and then find the ATC command. Double click it, and add the following:
-
Tried ATC, still no go. I wonder if it's my Aussie accent? I did try putting on a fake American accent, which usually works, but that still didn't work. I'll try redoing the ATC command.
-
Hmm, so comms or comms menu doesn't do anything for me. I've also searched the keyword list for anything relating to that, and I can't find anything?
