Actually, the game basically uses a single thread for everything except audio. However, due to the way Windows distributes threads across multiple cores, it's now technically using multi-cores, but without any of the benefits, as it's only single threaded. There's a heap of detailed information and confirmation from ED about this on the Internets. Google is your friend.

I think the most realistic solution to this problem is faster hardware. We’re going to need at least a doubling in PC performance to maintain the intended refresh rate/FPS of today’s HMDs, which is approx 72 to 90 Hz/FPS. Methinks that’s at least three years away! I’d love to be wrong, but have been playing DCS / LOMAC for over 15 years.

Anything with more than 10+ AI aircraft and 10+ SAM units at a time, over varied and detailed landscapes. Playing that on a Reverb, even with my specs, was a total chug-fest for me, stuck at a sluggish 45fps instead of the 90Hz the Reverb is designed to run at. I simply couldn't stand the artefacting caused by today's reprojection tech, but I'm used to playing a lot of VR games at 90Hz, as well as 2D games at 144 or 120Hz (even my 55" runs at 120Hz, so feels super smooth), so I'm probably used to a certain level of smoothness. I agree that VR is utterly amazing when it's running well, but sadly for me that was in the minority of times, and the performance and other problems ruined the sense of immersion. I will be back to try it again when the 3080 Ti comes out though!

I moved from the HP Reverb back to a 55” C9 OLED, and absolutely agree with you. I much prefer my big screen than VR! I will definitely check out DCS in VR again in a few years, but currently find the initial immersion boost when flying solo scenery flights isn’t worth the problems of flying proper A2A missions.

Best news for 2020: Focus on CORE of simulation
GunSlingerAUS replied to wilbur81's topic in DCS 2.9
Considering the A10 is still getting updates nearly a decade after launch, ED would have draw a firm line in the stand for when a module is finished enough. And I can only imagine the howls of complaint from those who don’t think a subscription model is worth considering. But back to the topic, ED has made claims about substantial core improvements for many, many years now, with most never being realised. Can I ask why anybody thinks this latest PR drop will turn out to be any different? I’ve been an on/off player since LOMAC, and can only see things getting worse with the reliance upon the Early Access finance model. Maybe ED should only release one module per year, take a bigger cut on third party modules, and focus on DCS itself? -
New Pay Model / subscription discussion
GunSlingerAUS replied to MacEwan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm absolutely 100% in agreement that a subscription model is worth paying for, on the proviso that we see real and tangible benefits to core game issues that have been around for over a decade now. -
I think anything is better than basically nothing though, given the importance of EW to radar-based combat.

Wow, now that's what I call an update! Thank you Heatblur. If only ED were so specific, but then I guess they'd have to deliver.

Need a bit of advice RE 2.5.6 Performance
GunSlingerAUS replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Took me over 100 hours of trying to get VR in DCS to run well before I retired my HMD until the 3080 Ti comes out. -
Autopilot not working as of 1st April patch?
GunSlingerAUS replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks for the tip. It seems using the emergency autopilot disconnect paddle stops it engaging properly thereafter (I only started using the paddle as of yesterday). However, if I switch off my autopilot via the autopilot toggle switch, it's all fine. Any idea why this might be? -
Hey guys I only use three basic buttons for the F-14 autopilot - autopilot toggle, (bound to button 26 on TMW throttle), autopilot reference (button 3 on VFX stick with TMW base) and autopilot altitude hold (one of my toggle switches on the TMW throttle). However, as of today's patch, toggling autopilot no longer locks my aircraft in it's current direction, and I also can't get altitude hold to work. I've tried rebinding the buttons, no difference. Is this a new bug?

Interesting, I'm finding it the same as before, but now there seems to be a micro-stutter every 20 seconds or so that was not happening before today's patch.

Random Lag and gamebreaking stuttering..

Aka 99% of the tech advice in the VR forum. -
The DCS engine is 100% incompatible with VRSS tech. Any change you think you see is also 100% placebo.

Seeing any half decent mission running amoothly in DCS VR would be reassuring. But until the 3080 Ti releases, my 2080 Ti handles Half Life Alyx on the Reverb absolutely beautifully. Stunning game at a rock solid 90fps, everything maxed.

Sorry, but the community has spoken. They're too cheap to even consider this. -

Shhhh the penny pinchers don't want evidence. They'd rather watch the game continue to die a slow and painful death. -
Sorry mate, but performance sucks on the Reverb, despite what others may claim on here. Bummer to see you're the latest one to listen to them.

It's so cute you kids think this is all going to be possible on ED's non-existent financial model. "See children, if you wish for something long enough, dreams do come true!". Personally, this claim got boring for me some time back In 2014. -
Well...maybe some day this will be fun!!!
GunSlingerAUS replied to dwbarnett's topic in Virtual Reality
There ain't no fix mate, unless you're one of the few VR players who can't tell the difference between 45fps and 90fps. -
I foolishly thought this thing would just be a case of plug and play - jack it into a USB port, then map controls via DCS in-game settings. Oh boy was I wrong I've just spent an hour jumping through hoops to get it working, but several issues show up. When I start up DCS flight panel, I get this error: https://imgur.com/a/74lsqiU Yet I've installed the DCS BIOS into the exact directory specified in the readme. However, I haven't installed the Arduino software, as I couldn't find any instructions on why or how to do so. Once that error has passed, I get into the config screen proper - but none of the controls I map work in game. I'm starting with a simple one, landing gear up and down, but no dice. Please help this poor sod out, as I'd hate to think I've wasted AU$175 on this.

As you can see from my specs, I have a pretty decent PC. DCS always runs superbly on it (if you don't count VR). However, since the new patch, I'm consistently getting a half-second pause every 30 seconds or so. It's very frustrating, as it ruins the immersion. Any ideas? And yes, I've tried installing it on a super fast M.2 Samsung EVO Pro with 32GB DDR-4000 memory.

Performance on 2.5.6 is butter smooth... apart from a brief 0.5 second stutter that happens every 45 seconds or so. Happens on both day and night. Never happened in 2.5.5 Any ideas? Pretty sure my system can handle the game pretty well.

Run an Ultrawide or 4k display.
