  1. I saw a noticable increase in FPS on my C2D system when I got a XFi gamer. Just remember to disable the onboard sound from the BIOS.
  2. The affinity trick is mostly a Vista thing because of how it handles DX. I am sure it would probably work on all games in Vista that are by default set to single core for affinity.
  3. Just the same as I don't agree to pirating BS, even though it possible. Unfortunately it is not as clear with FreeTrack only because it is not broadcast what they are really doing. If someone is informed what they are actually doing, and they find it acceptable, then we will slowly lose the companies who actually make Flight Simming possible.
  4. For the sake of the community, and the companies who actually make something for the community, I think it all was very necessary. But at least we were attacking a company and its policies, and not directly at people. Maybe you should take your garbage elsewhere.
  5. Is that like the graphs for the F15 engine? :D
  6. You can disable them IIRC.
  7. I have had people recently send reputation to me for various posts. Some of them, despite positive comments show as negative reputation. Has anyone else experienced this?
  8. IMO I suggest QuadCore and here is why. Load balancing and all those backround application. Remember back in the day when you used to have to close a lot of that stuff to get improved performance? Well these days there is no need. A quad core will provide more free CPU cycles for those backround applications to use. I have tons of stuff running, including VMware, while I am flying BS and I see no improvement if I close them down.
  9. The blue light not coming on seems to indicate that the TIR software does not recognize BS as an enhanced game. If you look in the games list, does it show BS?
  10. You have to edit the view.lua or snapview.lua. When I get home I can do a correct write up. It has been posted before though.
  11. As Alpha says. Its changing the pitch collectively. You understand the term a bit more when you look at how the blade pitch is controlled by the swash plate thing. The collective moves the plate up and down, so collectively the rotors change pitch. The cyclic changes the pitch by tilting the swash plate. The rotors have a cam on them, so as the pass the swash plate they change pitch cyclically. This changes the lift at different degrees in the rotation. I am sure there is a really good graphic that shows all that. edit: here http://science.howstuffworks.com/helicopter5.htm
  12. Are you looking at the correct Axis assignment? Arcade or Simulation?
  13. In producer.cfg do you have FFB true or false?
  14. I had almost exactly the same system as you but with my CPU @ 3.4GHz and an 8800GT/512 and 4GB of RAM. And I had less performance. I only had about 25-30FPS in the cockpit and it dropped to the teens with other KA50 in view. Of course I had AA and AF maxed also. When I got my 4870/1GB, it almost doubled. Now I get 50-60FPS, and only drops a little with other KA50 in view. In the air I get over 100FPS. I know some think I am smoking something as the GPU shouldnt give that much improvement, but there is something with the 1GB of memory. It may have to do with texture sizes or something.
  15. While I agree that the M2 should not be firing that many TOW, or that quickly. I disagree that the game is useless. The M2A2 IIRC should only be able to carry a total of 7 missiles. And I would think the reloading time would be longer than 30sec.
  16. I know that F4 will actually run the dynamic campaign on another core.
  17. I would almost venture to say I would prefer flying with TIR than a HOTAS.
  18. I thought you could get past customs in some places if its a gift?
  19. Your methodology is good. But if the AP is providing up to a 20% authority, an input then would only provide 80% of the force you apply. So even though you are giving input you are still fighting that 20% authority. Even though your inputs are making a correction it does feel as if you are fighting the AP. If you weren't, then flying with FD on would make no difference. IMO it is just a phenomenon that is present because of the lack of FFB. If we had FFB, or if we had the real flight controls, I dont think it would at all be an issue. But there is something that is definitely going on otherwise there would not be so many threads and topics regarding how the whole AP thing is working and how to use it.
  20. Yup. You could have weather calculations in one thread. The flight model on another. AI on another. I am sure things can be split up. Not that I think it would be easy at all, but I am sure there are many things that could be parallel.
  21. Although Vista only seems to give a gain from 2 cores, I use all 8 just in case. I figure it balances the load out better even if there is no improvement over 2.
  22. You didnt read what you quoted. With Route and FD off... You are still fighting the AP channels. The reason people are flying with FD on is because it is easier than holding the trim key/button. It is doing the same thing. Most people are mapping trim to the cyclic. Try mapping to the collective and it is much easier, Ruggbutt found that out and most of us in 3SQN have been doing it that way since. Like I have explained earlier. Say you are flying straight and level. Now you want to change direction, and change speed. You bank, but the AP is trying to hold the bank that the trim is set to. You add pitch, but the AP is trying to hold the trim pitch. You are changing heading, but the AP is trying to hold the trimmed heading. If you want an even more clear example, try to change your altitude when in auto-hover and leaving the altitude hold on by default. That is the same thing you are dealing with on the other channels. If you have FD on, it wont hold the attitude of the channels that are on. If you hold trim, it wont hold the attitude. The added advantage of holding the trim is that once you have your new course set, you release trim and it will hold that attitude, where FD wont. You are going to need to keep your hands on the controls with FD. With trim, I can change course and let go. I am not free to do other tasks. Some are using turning the channels off as a solution. But this is just creating more workload and instability in the flight. Same with FD, it is just a workaround. The AP is supposed to decrease the workload so you dont have to worry about flying it all the time.
  23. You may want to try this. Just hold the trim, yaw to the new heading and release. That is all I do and it works great.
  24. I disagree with deselecting the HDG HOLD button to change your heading in a hover. Other than that, great write up.
