  1. Well depends, if you mean Vietnam, yeah. But our MiG-21Bis and F-4Es all have capabilities post-Vietnam, so if you don't limit loadouts in the mission, MiG can return the favor with R-60M and also R-3R to some degree.
  2. Personally, I'd really hope OctopusG's next bird will be that Su-17M4 they have teased a year or two ago. If not that, I'd be happy to see more WWII aircraft from them, either more Soviet warbirds like Yak-9U or Yak-3 for late war, or Il-2, Pe-2, I-153, or as an opponent to I-16, a Bf-109E-7. Or even that An-2 they have made for another sim earlier La-9 or La-11 doesn't make it to my list though, I'd prefer anything above rather than those.
  3. As far as I recall it was 1979 or so, but there have been a few additional updates to DMAS birds up to 1986 afaik. Basically it is safe to count it as an 80s bird.
  4. A-6 was the first of the new Heatblur modules to be announced actually, around 2-3 years ago now I think, but already back then HB said that there will be other releases from them before the DCS: A-6. Those other modules revealed in time to be the F-4E and the Eurofighter. F-14D and JA 37 are firmly on the "nope, ain't happening" territory so far from HB's responses but I suppose "never say never" etc. Personally two things I'd love seeing from HB after their currently in dev modules are: - Some version of J 35 Draken, oh yes the Draken - F-111 of some description I'd also love to see something Soviet from them if possible, but I kinda doubt it.
  5. Yeah, "no MFDs, no IHADSS, no hook, dinosaurs' age avionics" are all firmly on the + side for me
  6. There are 3 distinct variants I would love to see: - MiG-25PD was the definitive interceptor variant. - MiG-25RBT was a recon bird and also an interesting bomber with a funky CCRP, who doesn't want to chug 10 supersonic FAB-500s from stratosphere? But don't expect to pinpoint hit defended areas I would say. - MiG-25BM was a dedicated SEAD bird with EW systems and 4 Kh-58 missiles. All of them are one trick ponies, and all of them are very different, so I guess it isn't too realistic to expect all of them in a hypothetical module sadly. At least PD and RBT would be cool. During Desert Storm and no-fly-zone days, MiG-25s did put a better show to a degree than most other Iraqi fighters but that was due to their unique strengths and pilots adhering strictly to those. And even then, that better show meant being able to escape/evade pretty well more often than not. Apparently they have even scored a hit on a F-15C, with a R-40 proximity fusing and damaging the Eagle, but not enough to bring it down, and to be fair a good bit of MiG-25's survival in engagements vs F-15s seemed more because of AIM-7s failing hilariously often. But it is a one trick pony regardless. It can charge in, fire its missiles, hope for the best, and if fired back, has a decent chance of running away. It can't tangle with fighters up close though. Also as well known, early in the conflict a MiG-25 did quite likely shoot down an F/A-18 Hornet. Do note however, these were possible pre-AMRAAM, and as far as I know, Iraqi MiG-25s didn't have much to show against F-14As flown by Iran during their almost decade long war. It is a very interesting bird imo, and I'd personally sooner buy and fly it rather than yet another flying computer screen gallery. However, it is still limited to a specific mission type, and it may not be as attractive for general user base. I'm pretty sure the first photo is a recon bird though, with the narrow nose, so I think marked item is one of the cameras.
  7. Contrarily, I want it to be spread a lot more. I want especially early to mid war aircraft (Battle of Britain, North Africa, Eastern Front, etc.). I don't mind theaters or AI assets too much, well maybe a little in case of AI assets but that's it. I do however, very much want great aircraft made to level we expect in DCS. There are a few late war stuff I could find interesting still, yes, but I'd much rather see above rather than more late-war laser-focused Europe.
  8. If possible, I'd very much like to get post Vietnam versions of almost everything in the list, which is thankfully what's happening for the most part. After that, yeah sure why not. A Vietnam era Cobra as the first and only Cobra would be as bad as a 2000s+ Cobra for example. 75+ to 80s maybe at most early 90s is where it's at for DCS imo. That said, there are some aircraft which I'd be very interested in, and Vietnam was basically their last hurrah, so with those I have no problem with getting 'Nam era versions. These being F-105 and F-100. But for F-111, A-7, A-6, F-4, give me post 'Nam versions please, and that's what's happening anyway.
  9. M4. Magnitude also teased a Su-22M4 afaik. And then there's SniperSVK on forum doing a Su-22M4 too. I personally prefer 17M4 but they are pretty damn close anyway. As for the MiG-27 versions, since we seem to be getting some form of a Fitter M4 (which I love, it's the only thing I anticipate about as much as F-4E), the only MiG-27 that would bring something really interesting/different on top of Fitter would be the K, but I keep hearing documentation for it is very difficult to obtain. MiG-27K had a system that is somewhat similar (but older and less capable) than Shkval we know from Ka-50 and Su-25T. AFAIR it was called something like Kaira-27. So it had some on-board optical system, and AFAIK could even guide its own LGBs, though I guess the delivery profiles would be a lot more restricted than a TGP due to gimbal limits. There's also the party piece of GSh-30-6 but that's basically a meme anyway While the late Fitter also has a TV screen onboard, it is only for using with Kh-29T missile's seeker. Otherwise, Su-17M4 or Su-22M4 offers greater payload, more varied and I think better SEAD capability, less but more reliable dakka with NR-30s maybe. But I'm really, reeeaaaally looking forward to A-7E too! Another jet right down my alley! So far it feels like it will be a great first release from FIS too!
  10. Mine is VERY similar with order shifted, and a few different things. F-4E is first Su-17M4 or Su-22M4 either shares first place or is a very close second A late Cold War AH-1, either F or W, with leaning a bit closer to W A-7E MiG-27K A-6E MiG-23MLA Jaguar well there's a lot more, but these are the top for me right now. Edit: I forgot, also DRAKEN oh I want that a lot, and Kfir, and Mirage III
  11. Much, much, much prefer a two-blade W, later 80s or at most mid 90s. Z would be a huge shame and missed oppportunity at giving us a proper late Cold War and early GWOT Cobra, and a very well fitting blue counterpart to our existing Mi-24P.
  12. Oh we need an 80s to early 90s AH-1W and/or F for that, we very much do need exactly that! Not one that's earlier, nor later. I can make do with earlier T maybe to a degree, but something like 2000s Z or upgraded W would be a huge shame. 75 to early 90s, and especially 80s stuff is the absolute stuff for DCS imo. All that said, I am very much looking forward to Bo-105 for being a cool little agile and interesting helicopter, and also for having seen dedication of the person behind it to make it happen all through years.
  13. Eh, as a Phantom fan, that is way overblown in my opinion. Being two seater does nothing to alleviate tricky flying characteristics, it takes away load of working some of the (ancient and frankly janky) avionics and gives an extra pair of eyes to look outside, but the thing is still as tricky to fly and pilot still has to do that. But to be fair, pretty much nothing from the period is easy to fly anyway. In a dogfight vs contemporaries, it is roughly equal-ish really, but even MiG-21 is going to be easier to get the best out of I think, same goes for the F-5. Mirage F1 proved to be surprisingly tricky but that may well be flight model being in an early state. Israel, having F-4Es and Mirage IIIs, most often used old Mirages in the air to air role from what I know for example. As for the avionics, they are super cool especially for the period, and are also utter jank Solid BVR weapons sounds like a solid overstatement to me. AIM-7F seems to be the top possibility, and Mirage's Super 530F is somehat better than that, and so will the upcoming MiG-23MLA's R-24R will be, only the margin will be greater in favor of R-24 I think. F-4E's radar will be mediocre for air to air, especially in BVR it will have a lot of limitations like no look down capability. Also unlike Mirage F1 or MiG-23MLA, or even F-5E-3 to some degree, it won't have a good close in quick acquisition mode afaik. MiG-23MLA will also have an overall better air to air radar that is easier to use, has a better range, and can do at least some look-down. Naval F-4s do fix these issues in air to air, but give up the gun, and only catch up to F-4Es especially lower speed maneuverability pretty late, and they also completely give up all the advanced air to ground capabilities from F-4E. Speaking of those capabilities, earlier mavericks are (unlike in DCS) so-so, F-4's bombing computer was so much loved in Vietnam, pilots just used bombing tables or flat out "used the force" instead, and the targeting pods (while for me will be awesome for that reason alone) were super janky. Pave Spike, the pod we'll get for the first variant, is a day-time TV only system with low resolution, and thus low magnification/range, no automatic target tracking capability to speak of, and only quick cueing options are "look left/right/ahead". Between 1974-1984ish, F-4E was one of the very few, perhaps even only aircraft that could do both decent-ish air to air AND fairly advanced for the time multirole air to ground. But that same period also had pure AA and pure AG platforms that were just plain better in those jobs. By then, F-14 was already a thing, in a short while F-15 too, and 80s brought along the whole rest of the 4th gen fighters. Yes, it could do both air to air and air to ground quite good, unlike most other aircraft of the period. But there were many that were at least as good or better in air to air, also many that were at least as good or better in air to ground. So don't see how that makes F-4E "OP" until the 4th gen arrived, and frankly, one can argue 4th gen already didn't take long to arrive after F-4E's "coming of age" with slats, less smokey engines, better AA missiles, better air to ground technologies during mid 70s. I also think it was the overall best 3rd gen fighter, just not by that much, and neither its flight characteristics, nor BVR capabilities, or indeed air to ground capabilities were quite as magical as you seem to think.
  14. More the latter, I am very much fine with fleshing out of existing "periods" of course, especially the 3 I've listed in my post make the greatest sense imo. But I'd like effort to be "let's put some serious effort into lots of Cold War units, but maybe also add 1-2 WWII units too meanwhile" kind of way so that, if possible none of the main periods become completely left in the dust. There are some yes, M42 Duster for example, would also be a rather important unit that spans a long period of use for many countries. And most of the towed guns, ATGM launchers etc were in service for a long period. Also a soldier with a LAW launcher would cover a long service history and would give BLUE side an infantry unit that can hurt vehicles.
  15. First off, I am fairly strongly against any focus on any singular time frame. However, I do believe there are 3 that still should be expanded, as they already exist in DCS, and IMO also represent the most interesting and widely appealing time frames. These are: WW II, at least the late War Europe to begin with. We do have a healthy amount of ground assets in payware pack, and the amount of freely accessible ones from the asset are a decent gesture. But aircraft, ships, and infantry require some expansion. Some basic USN/RN/KM destroyers and maybe 1 cruiser and 1 battleship each would cover the naval part, and as a bonus Allied ships can double as assets for upcoming Pacific side of things. Infantry is whole another topic I intend to create a thread for whenever I catch a break from work these days. Late Cold War (1975-1990): In my opinion by far the most imporant and most interesting one, not to mention most fitting for the majority of existing and upcoming modules and assets. We mainly need more European ground asssets, US and EU air defense systems, and emplacements/towed weapons for both BLUE and RED sides of the fence. Recent addition of howitzers and AT guns to WW2 asset pack is really nice, and we already have AA guns from this period too. Expansion for Cold War with likes of more mortars, howitzers, recoilless guns, ATGM and HMG positions would go a long way in fleshing things up and giving us new ways to make missions with. Older gen MANPADS for both sides of the Cold War is also a MUST at this point. Give us Redeye, early block Stinger, Strela-2, and Strela-3 at least, and maybe also Blowpipe etc. Post Cold War-GWOT era up to maybe early to mid 2010s, but I'd rather say up to late 2000s: Not entirely my cup of tea, in fact I am not too fond of later scenarios/assets, but don't mind them as an occasional change of pace. However, there are others who are mainly interested in later stuff, and we already have existing and incoming stuff like F-16CM, F/A-18C Lot 20, F-15E, JF-17, Eurofighter Typhoon, AH-64D, ICH-47F etc which don't have a lot of contemporary air or grounds to play with/against. What we have is mostly thanks to DEKA's work in their Chinese Asset Pack, but other factions can use some assets for this period too. What I think is needed for this period are aircraft, infanty, weapon positions, artillery, especially rocket artillery. Edit: and I still believe any focus on Vietnam specific, especially early to mid 'Nam specific assets would be counterproductive, and a missed opportunity at the expense of anything above. However, later 'Nam stuff would go as "nice to have" for my primarily preferred period of late cold war too to a degree at least. Also some earlier stuff like T-34/85 would multitask nicely between being a WW2, Korea, and even I think early Vietnam asset.
  16. Mine: none of them, post Vietnam versions for a better 75-80s experience please, not to mention being a better fit for existing assets, modules and AI alike.
  17. Yeah, fully agree that this should be the way it operates.
  18. No, TV only, no FLIR capability. Also no automatic target tracking afaik. Pave Tack that will be featured on the later DMAS upgraded F-4E will have both features though. This one will be very old school, early TGP for daytime operations.
  19. Razbam has F-15E to release and finish, a few things to also finish on Harrier and MiG-19 afaik, then release/finish MiG-23MLA, then Pucara and Super Tucano. Then, maybe then, Mirage III. So just these listed modules alone, I'd say we are looking at about half a decade worth of work before we can other things like AMX etc imo.
  20. Yeah honestly, it isn't shelved per-se, but saying that it's in development isn't quite right either imo. As it is, Mag3 have a lot of work on their plate, and it seems to take some serious time. I am very interested in this bird, but I think until Corsair is out, and ironed out, and that mythical MiG-21 overhaul has actually happened, talking about F-8 being actively developed doesn't make too much sense. We'll see if it'll come or not, and if it does (I hope it does) I don't expect it to be before 2.5-4ish years.
  21. Forget the AI even exists, especially against a few worst offenders, which includes (but probably not limited to) MiG-21, MiG-15, and used to include F-5E too but I think it's reeled in now. They are getting a new dogfight AI and a new "General Flight Model" system, so this will improve in coming months/year(s?), but especially at the "Ace" skill level many AI aircraft have some BS powers. They can simultaneously be too easy and too difficult, because their perf sometimes doesn't agree actual physics, but they are also super predictable. Veteran level is less BS if you want to practice dogfighting vs AI. And even then, avoid certain aircraft that seem to have more questionable AI flight models like MiG-21.
  22. Bump, as I've also encountered this, just last evening. Took me about 3 evenings to develop a troop transportation for player helicopters script (I know, CTLD exists, I just like reinventing the wheel I guess, so, yeah :P). It was working beautifully in singleplayer, and we got DCS evening going for the mission yesterday, aaaandd... main highlight of the mission didn't work in multiplayer because of this exact issue. Now, I've changed the event to S_BIRTH, and it will work as intented without changing anything else, no problem. But, there's another script in the mission that makes ground vehicles to deploy squads when they stop, so S_BIRTH will fire up many times. Code will only do actual work if what ever fired the even is a UH-1H, Mi-8MT, or Mi-24P, so that's fine, but still not exactly ideal as we have an event that's supposed work exactly for this kinds situation, and does so without problem on singleplayer.

    MI-24VP

Very few modules implement gun failures afaik. MiG-21 and JF-17 has them, or, at least the MiG had them, not sure if it still works been a while I had a stoppage in it. I think maybe Harrier too, not sure. Unlike the MiG and Jeff, I don't think I've ever had a stoppage with ED built GSh-23 implementations like in L-39, or in UPK-23/SPPU-22 pods. I doubt we'd get that implemented if we had a Mi-24V, but honestly, that isn't needed to still make YakB a pretty miserable turret gun option in DCS. Being the first ones to do it in DCS, maybe Mag3 will also include it with their F-8 when that sees the light of day, as ironically, so-called "the last gunfighter" also had guns that would jam left and right. As things are right now, you need direct hitS on infantry, as they can sometimes tank multiple hits from it, and while I think it theoretically has better penetration than GSh-23L, or perhaps even M-61 with SAPHEI rounds, that's only from relatively shorter distances. Besides, since you'd basically be manually walking rounds in, you'll end up having to shoot from closer ranges anyway. Which, in DCS, is suicidal against even likes of BTRs or a Humvee with a .50 cal on, never mind proper IFVs or AAA, or, indeed, that random dude with an RPG-7 in hand GSh-23L is also a give/take situation in comparison, it'd definitely be better vs infantry and unarmored vehicles in the open, probably also things like other helicopters, maybe. But it is also short ranged, has considerably slower velocity, an arcing trajectory, and actually somewhat worse armor penetration. Besides, it only ever achieved more wide scale use in Hind variants with very late versions, VP from Cold War being basically a very low production run or even basically prototypes afair. The only time Hinds got a really decent turret gun is in those wierd South African "Superhind" upgrades, and I'm not sure I'd clamor after those in DCS... This isn't entirely unique to Hind BTW. M197 on Cobras is also notorious for lots of stoppages apparently, and afaik, it only got laser rangefinding assisted aiming in later variants like AH-1F and AH-1W from I think maybe mid-80s on. But at least most Cobras with 20mm gun also had the ability to slew around the turret with pilot and gunner's helmet. "Lock something/somewhere up, or just look there, and shoot it with that cool turreted attack helo gun" really became more of a thing with Apache it seems. I think we are accustomed to the idea from older "sims" we've played, and our own DCS Kamov (and later Apache) being actually able to do it. And, even in AH-64's case, if you look at IRL Apache gun footage (as well as how it was in DCS at first :P), rounds fall all over the place around the targets, and the thing is literally called "Area Weapon System". But it can actually aim at that area nice and quick, and HEDP rounds work just as well at their maximum range against both armor and soft targets as they do up close. IMO, "It'd be cool" really isn't enough of a reason for something to get dev time/priority in something like DCS though but well, I wouldn't mind it if it happens anyway. Even though I know it'd be barely any better than the Kord door gun we already have
  24. I'm afraid I'l have to pull off the "you'll have to trust me on that one" here. I do recall HB stating a few times that it will DSCG being first, DMAS being later in various forum posts etc, but can't quite dig them out right now :). But yeah, it isn't stated in that FAQ. Really sure they won't be at the same time at release though. Perhaps @IronMike or @Cobra847 may clarify the order when/if they are able
