  1. Thanks for the headsup, I need to catch up on all things in depth about DCS.
  2. https://steamcommunity.com/app/223750/discussions/2/2965019884820662277/#c2965019884818785928 Though ... let's test it before concluding, this should be about the camera thing, if it's some similar issue that affects the whole game that other people had but I didn't then oh well.
  3. Ups or downs, funding of any kind produces more content, in theory, and personally I'm interested in more various ground AI, cargo, scenery, building, transport, facilities assets of any kind. Is it the funding though, what about time, there's a catch, surely funding can help, but unless that funding actually funds more developers producing things it can't actually go faster or more in general, something else would have to be delayed or suffer delay to some extent. The reason therefore why I would be interested in a paid module to add the side stuff is precisely so that it funds actual extra workers, so that the rest of the unrelated work on the simulator isn't being delayed, paused, and ofcourse the main reason of actually getting more of these low-priority fruit quite earlier than if you'd let things go naturally. But that "naturally" is a relative as well, who knows where would that low-priority fruit be suddenly looked at and considered for implementation or improvement. So this is more complicated in detail than it seems. There also has to be some kind of long term plan, what would the extra workers for the paid modules be doing later, would they all be fired? Ofcourse I should have mentioned the question about if extra workers would even fit into an office in the first place. The whole free vs non-free or core vs plugin idea is all tied to the logical relationships of a system, how someone subjectively wants to design it, and how someone else perceives it. Anything can be purposely split or purposely designed as a wholesome soluton. Yes the new ATC feels like a core component and that feels like it should be free. Is that feasible in practice, probably not for all the huge core updates. The AI units, it feels like a core component and should be free too, but that may not be feasible because of all the other reasons, including money. Everything could be treated as core DCS and downloaded as one huge 250GB install, that means we get everything for free?
  4. It makes sense, there's enough new maps recently to enjoy. If everything runs down like a waterfall in 2-3 years, then what for the next 5 years after that, drought, you guys wouldn't want that right
  5. Invest or persuade to get Ethernet, it'll be worth it Just make sure you don't get Cat 5e UTP cables, but Cat 6A SFTP, feels excessive, but it's future proof. It's not just about EMI, but Ethernet cables are notoriously flimsy physically, a better interference shielding protection level from a reputable brand also comes with a thicker and stronger casing. I had to run strong plastic outer tubing and run them inside so I don't accidentially step on them directly, not to mention the biggest bane of breaking the plastic connector pin, but the better cables come with exactly a pin protector against just that.
  6. I absolutely knew it this is going to be looked into depth and become a focus point by some one at some point, making the detail a big deal, hehe, love it While objectively not the most important part, but it's actually not that far fetched to go out and have proper star positioning because that would be rather critical for star navigation, a niche usecase but still, that's what excells the whole simulator. I would personally enjoy to try out such navigation-challenging missions eventually ... a bit down the road tho, been trying to get myself off the F-10 godlike view habit and use fog of war.
  7. Seems unusual, perhaps it's forcing some settings and doesn't save your edits for the next session, but IDK really, you should post the DCS info log for the staff to look at.
  8. Wait you have a lot of stutters when you move the camera around? That may actually be the 1000hz mouse polling stutter bug that I was experiencing for +2 years before figuring it out. Please check if your symptoms correspond to what I'm describing, even in a barebone missions with 1 static unit, rotating the external is not smooth and feels as if the camera has some kind of an achor that keeps catching off-and-on and produces a feeling of high drag, You need to set your mouse polling rate to 125hz which is the standard desktop poll rate, 250hz, 500hz, 1000hz will each introduce more lag respectively. If you don't get any lag at 125hz then you solved the problem, but you won't get the benefit of a 1000hz mouse. If you have a gaming mouse with 1000hz but no way to configure it via the drivers then you are unfortunately in a need of a new mouse that has the option to set poll rate. Or, you can test it with a really cheap non-gaming mouse which should only support 125hz and try with that to see if it works better. It's not actually engine lag, so you won't fix it by adding more hardware horse power. However you are in need of better HW anyway. So do follow the previous advice too.
  9. You can't trust pretty much anything that's off-the-shelf 100%, sorry. I can't find a better example to give you an idea right now because I'm a bit busy so this video should do it. (check out part 2 etc)
  10. While it would be just enough to chug on 8GB for DCS as well, not counting VR, it's not exactly safe way to go long-term wise. Remember, those reviewers are heavily biased toward testing mainstream games and would barely touch a simulator, due to the civilian flight sim hype they probably did touch it this year, for other reasons that made flight sims huge this year and stand out big time compared to anytime before, but that's where their interest ends unfortunately. I was very happy with AMD perhaps thinking what I was thinking, to not forget other VRAM use cases besides the repetitious buzz about "1080p free to play gaming", or they had some other reasons too, to go 2x or +100% straigh to 16GB and not rely on the prospects of fast SSDs + DirectStorage thinking the fast SSD-to-VRAM upload is going to stream all that removing the need for more VRAM. Not necessairly, you still need to have thigns in VRAM to do a lot of other things efficiently. DirectStorage isn't even released for developers yet ... not only this takes HW/SW/API support, it also takes implementing with games and desiging the memory management around it, in the end it may be the optimal solution that keeps memory sizes from ballooning and would be something DCS would benefit, but in the meantime it's far far easier to just avoid the complexity and go bigger and let DCS or otherwise just use it if they need. Also today is 2nd December, not 12th
  11. The second (redone) new migration or the second part of the migration, can't quite tell but it seems better in a lot of way, now let's find any bugs and hope it stabilizes. While the default white look is back again, I think theming/coloring isn't that of an issue and can be done later afterward, so I don't think people should be concerned about the colors, themes should take some time to do. For example I have already posted in the forums suggestions about an idea of a green-orange-brown theme in the spirit of A-10C. Oh there we go: Awesome helper for keeping passage of time in a thread well known And oh my dear, Strikethrough support
  12. Right, but it's not a story, it's not final fantasy or the legend of zelda, and even tho I'm a big fan of Zelda, I don't want it like that with DCS, I like it that it's not some scripted "feed the consumer" entertainment that feels too babysitting, it's really more natural approach of a sandbox sim, and once they populate it, you would be able to imagine that story and configure it for that purpose, but I agree that they're not force-feeding some specific story in some specific time frame, that would be felt as a subjective bias, so having it random like that it's better in this regard.
  13. I saw this as well, randomly signatures would not work, refresh and starts working, perhaps after posting or having come combination of actions or a circumstance, I haven't figured it now, it may have been temporary and it resolved it self by now. I think signature setting from the old site should be re-applied again, because they were all off when the move happened, and I think majority still didn't turn it on even tho they had it on before, well, sorry, I'm not sure if signatures were by default ON on the old forum, but I think they were. If not disregard my comments then.
  14. Perhaps the term "eagerly" is not as strong as we're asuming and they picked that one to reflect it more accurately. The term for awaiting a high-fidelity RedFor would then be something like, let's see on TheSaurus ..., "fiercely" or "breathlessly", right? :D
  15. Sorry, but that looked to me like "it's also on the official servers" not strongly indicating it only is there. But that's okay I'm not upset or anything, it's just low effort comments, kinda the level I'm at this time around here due to very busy stuff, I don't even have DCS installed yet (due to busy/hiatus/PC upgrade still ongoing, getting close!)
  16. That's technically right, but without context that makes it sound as if the neglect is due to carelessness, but we *all* know it's intentionally low priority. There were large discussion before, when MAC was a hot topic, whether FC3 will continue as it is or be morphed into something else or even be deprecated. There's more ideas I could throw out right now, but it's late for bed now and I don't like to keep too much WIP posts around that I never finish.
  17. Hmm, so the WW2 Damage Model is MP only right now, right? That should have been more strongly emphaised in the patch notes IMO.
  18. Yeah, seems like we RAM buffs get a bonus, I'm already set for 64GB next year in a few months, no lower than that.
  19. Yeah I've mentioned it too elsewhere, it's pretty low, considering fonts and formatting is on a lower scale than before and you can get a signature smaller and take up less space with more letters IMO. For some reason lower fonts don't play well with the line thickness which makes things look off. The "including BB code" is really unfair, the BB code does not pollute the post visually ... same thing as twitter counting "@user133452" into the total tweet char limit, so you get unjustly penalized if you reply to a person with a long username.
  20. I think showing signatures should be enabled by default for everyone, unless they had it disabled from before. I don't think over 50% of the forum would go and specifically enable them, infact perhaps 20% would do that at most at some point so I think it's kinda worthless if nobody sees it, not that signatures have super important info but what's the point otherwise. Not sure if the forum can force it on automatically for everyone after the fact. At least for those who had it turned on before.
  21. Yeah, it reminds me of https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/Need But those are just those kind of substances, there are better out there but usually never focused on, such as simply as good nutrition can do a whole lot, without side effects.
  22. Yes I'm kinda busy with other stuff, I come here sporadically, forget and say the same thing, but yes, I am not completely digging into these subjects right now that's why the disclaimer.
  23. Moving only the primary group unit without the rest of them ... probably the biggest ME quality of life improvement, great stuff, I never thought of reporting it, somehow the biggest annoyances sometimes don't seem to trigger that feedback thing, whoever reported that needs a medal lol, or did they fix it on their own, great as well !!! Take a look at the Link Shell Extension too if you only rely on MKLINK in CMD.
  24. I would just briefly add that this may not seem so bad, even tho I haven't investigated this issue, so this is a general comment: it may be signs of preparation to support HDR/WCG, future proofing, perhaps released with too much bit depth too early, so let's keep that in mind, future GPUs will have a lot more VRAM and DCS overally improvements should optimize VRAM allocation and use it more efficiently and it may all come together nicely in the end. I will most likely be getting AMD Radeon 6800 with 16GB VRAM, I am so impressed they did exactly what I dreamed of, they went full blown to more VRAM rather than less, this will be great for things like DCS and other sims/games that do a lot of stuff that normal RTS/FPS games do not.
  25. Edit signature now exists, the default window is quite small 500x500 pixels roughly, the vertical can be expanded but can't expand it horizontally (unless with dev tools in browser) so it's hard to fit those long lines of PC specs. Secondly, I couldn't confirm it because it has a 1000 char limit including BB code so that's a big bummer. I have 2 PCs now ... 3 to be exact but that one won't really count, so I got a bit to fill, but yeah I may not use the second PC for DCS mainly however I could do it for testing purposes so I wanted to include those specs too. It's not that huge, I can and plan to do my bug reports more professionally, posting detailed specs right there that were used to do a test, but it would help to copy paste if I had the signature as a cache of sorts.
