Multiple actions bound to one button
Weegie replied to Madfish's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm using TM's TARGET script editor, it's a real pity there is nothing like it available as a standalone product as I'd gladly pay for such a thing It can easily give you 3 modes, a shift for each mode and you can use long/short press (customizable to the delay of your choice). So that means one button can perform 12 separate commands. Then you can go further by getting it do different things for different configuations, example if the gear is selected up or down, the button will send different keystrokes or actuate differrent Dx buttons. You can also set it to do different things for a combination too, example gear and hook down, do one thing, gear only something else, gear up different again. On top of that there is the ability to Chain or sequence, keystrokes. Using these I can get the buttons to do all sorts of stuff, yet still be somewhat intuitive. I have a lot of modules so try to set the configs up in a similar fashion Not for everybody I guess but works well for me The downside is it only works with TM products -
Cool Rick Just picked it up many thanks for all the work

I'm interested, at the moment there is nothing currently available and I'm lukewarm on both VKB's (if it happens) and Virpil's offering. Thrustmaster Hog is what I currently use I like the look of the WinWing, but it's not available and do not know how long it will be before it's offered as a standalone unit Only problem with the F-16 is it's going to be a single throttle lever and ideally I'd prefer a dual. Knowing RealSimulator it will not be cheap but there products, software and support are first class

Ok no problems I'll need to mod the profile a little but should get it done today. Feel free to mod anything in it or delete stuff out of it you don't want no problems If you don't know how to piggyback/daisychain another profile onto Vaicom skip to 8:20 on Hollywood's video here I'll post up the link to the profile soon
-
James I've mentioned a few times but if you want it I have separate profile for the F-16. It does not cover too much and is a bit "belt and braces" as you can do a lot of the stuff with Vaicom already. What it does do is select kneeboard pages, tunes the radio TACAN and ILS, here is something similar in the F-18 demo-ing the kneeboard, apologies it's way too long as I was demonstrating how it all worked. You just add the profile onto the backend of Vaicom as a separate profile. I hardly ever used the kneeboard before I had it but now I use it quite a lot If you think it would help just let me know and I'll give you a DropBox link with it
-
Hi James It's just a table you can load into your kneeboard to see available frequencies for all the towers in the Causasus map alongwith ILS, PRMG,TACAN, RSBN and beacons for the fields. It's here if you want to download it https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1523987/ When you contact the airfield/tower you should see on the Vaicon pop up screen if it has selected the airfield anyway If you enter in the correct frequency (or use "Select") and then use the correct PTT to activate that radio then the pop up will tell you, it will have the airfield frequency and say in brackets below that the name of the tower you are contacting
-
Cannot remember the frequencies but if you are using the lower radio ranges for Airfields you'll use VHF for the higher ranges UHF Example Anapa can be contacted on 121.0 and 250.0 the former would be VHF (Very High Frequency) the latter UHF (Ultra High Frequency) Ranges might be in the F-16 manual, cannot remember I've got Gospadin's Kneeboard notes on my kneeboard and it's a great guide, an alternate would be to use Lino's Caucasus map or beacon tables Easily found with the Google search

James was that screenshot taken while in the game with the F-16 selected on a mission? You should have the same display as Greyman with the module being recognized. When the module is recognized it greys out the radio keys that are not applicable to that particular module I doubt this but are you running Win 7? I could never get Vaicom to work 100% with Win 7 and it turns out the problem appears to be connnected to related to UDP packet size in Win 7. If you are using 7 then I posted about the fix in this thread but it's a while back Just in case here is a link to it https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3971225&postcount=2669

Both look great I'll be downloading them when they become available for sure Love these F-15 Skins wonder if any of the skinners perhaps contemplating F-16 Versions?
-
Great some Japanese paint schemes in the pipeline, terrific news
-
Ok Thanks Greyman Guess that explains it then. I did as you suggested and just bound the switch to a different keybind
-
Ok I see it in the other modules and it's listed as Left Shift R. I assume if you change that keystroke in the other modules the mission would start with the newly assigned keybind However in the F-16C listings the Restart Mission is on the Keyboard list but it has no keystroke associated with it, so it should not restart the game on the default Left Shift R. I'm not making a huge deal of it, but if the command is not bound to any keybind it shouldn't be restarting the mission
-
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not I set my roll steering select to Left Shift R, then when I pressed it the mission immediatley reset I tried a different keybind and no problem so it's the key combination. Nothing in the Controls Input to indicate that Left Shift R should behave this way so I'm guessing it's a bug

Heh Sgt Coyle This is great stuff I never knew about the Macro tool and I'll defiantely be giving it a try Thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to enlighten this dullard :book:

I'll check it again today, but from what I seen so far for the Viper VHF although greyed out was working in SP but not MP For refuelling I just added a second phrase in the editor "To Join" (from my EF 2000 days) and that works a treat. I found the Approach for Refuel unecessarily wordy

I think you can go from GUI to Script Editor, I'm sure I've done it in the past It's not really a great approach as the GUI is kinda verbose, but if you are totally new to scripting then it will provide a template and you can take it from there, hacking the script around and trying stuff I know Sgt Coyle isn't keen on it, but as I recall it's how I got started scripting. Personally I don't think it's a bad way to get started, although I do agree that once you get up and running with the SE it's just easier to start in the SE. So make your commands up in the GUI then you need to run it. After you run it TM will make a script for it TM hides this stuff away and the Scrpts are kept in Users/"Yourname"/AppData/Roaming/Thrustmaster/TARGET/Scripts (as I recall). You may have to use the Viiew command, at the top of File Explorer to click the Checkbox "View Hidden Items" if you cannot see the AppData folder. The Scrpits have the file handle .tmc, the GUI Maps, only used by the GUI are .fcf I'd move the script somewhere else (or as a minimum rename it) then use the SE, if you don't and accidently open the GUI again and run it from there it will get overwritten with whatever is in the GUI. I keep all my SE scripts separate from anything that was created by the GUI for that very reason Go on, ask me how I know

Hollywood I was up in the Viper yesterday just for a short try, TBH I didn't check the VHF switch in the pit but as I spawned on the runway I'd assume it was on. Although greyed out in Vaicomm the radio actually worked when the PTT was activated & I was able to communicate with the tower

Can nor get viacom to work.

Are you runing Win 7? -
I could be teaching my granny here But short press/long press function is available as a standard command with the programming editor, but not the TARGET GUI The command is TEMPO and the duration for long press altered through that command The editor looks a lot more complicated than it is in reality, although it is very choosy about syntax. Read the TARGET Script Editor basics and you'll get a good idea how it works pretty quickly I'm just starting to make a profile for the Viper but it will take a while and I prefer to concentrate on Nav and comms so it won't be much use to the majority Sgt Coyle will be along soon he knows way more than me and will probably help you out with some scripting examples As far as getting rid of the embedded maps that come as standard you can just use the Clear Category command, highlight a box in the controller you want to clear and push that button
-
Thanks Must have missed it, although there are a few where the labels aren't that clear to me exactly what they do
-
Can anyone expalin what the AfterBurner Selection Always Off/Always On is about in the Special Tab? Always Off is not much use unless there is a way to switch it on when in the pit. I'm thinking of the Finger Lifts in the Hornet, but there is nothing like that in the Viper (that I know of) I'm a bit confused as to why it's there
-
I like that, it looks a lot more like what I am wanting, the other throttle was too large for me. They also state a 20 degree increase in "throw" I'll need to check if that means it has the same or greater "throw" than the Hog, which I currently use. It was the lack of "throw" (or physical movement) on the previous models that stopped me considering it. Still a pity though that there is not some form of detent for AB (preferably removable or better adjustable). I use a Debolestes part in my Hog and it's awesome (just a bit of friction then you continue)

Thrustmaster T.A.R.G.E.T tutorial
Weegie replied to ambision's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Second that I have no idea why so many hate it with a passion SGT Coyle has helped me with quite a few issues there is help available here with how to get going with it and a lot of really advanced stuff too (not me) I started with the GUI which is pretty powerful on it's own, because the Script Editor scared the bejaysus out me when I seen the code. Like most stuff though break it down and it's not so bad. As said you can program Dx buttons and keyboard commands in the one script You have 3 modes and a shift too, then you can add Tempo commands, one button can do 2x3x2 (Tempo is a long/short button push) that's one button doing 12 things (easily) Then you can start to get creative like getting a button to do one thing when something else is activated (like gear position or if a certain HUD mode is selected), or mulitple keystrokes, or sequenced keystrokes and a whole lot more besides. Beyond me why it's trashed so much I think it's a powerful piece of software, sure it's got its quirks and problems but it's a dammed site easier than the other advanced programming software out there (well the ones I've came accross). If there was an equivalent piece of software you could use for all hardware I'd buy it. -
TARGET program joystick trouble
Weegie replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I get a similar thing where I often need to rerun the profile before the USB port gets recognized. It always sees the throttle but the stick is hit and miss TBH I'm not sure if I'm running USB 3 or not and it is on a hub, so shoulld I ever investigate it could well be down to me However I've never had anything erased, if the stick isn't there on mine then TARGET will still combine the profile and everything on the throttle works I assume you're aware that when TARGET runs, you run a different "combined" profile, when it doesn't run DCS sees the Stick as a standalone entry. So DCS isn't deleting anything, when TARGET is running it uses the TARGET combined profile. When it's not running the stick is standalone and runs on a different profile (apologies if I am teaching my granny here, it's just a thought) EDIT To make it clearer when TARGET runs, a combined profile is created and that is the only one that will show in the DCS controls page. The seperate Throttle(if you have it) and Stick profiles are combined by the TARGET virtual controller. Therefore when you run TARGET you will not see the individual device contollers for stick and/or throttle. When you don't run TARGET the stick and throttle profiles will show up in the DCS controls seperately and the TARGET virtual profile will disappear When I get the stick recognized it stays that way until I change profiles Couple of things are make sure Micrsoft Store isn't running in TASK Manager Processes When I compile TARGET I make sure everything else is disabled (like Voice Attack, Teamspeak etc, having anything else running usually prevents me ever getting the Joystick to be recognized. Once it is running I don't have a problem and all is stable -
No such thing as stupid question and I can't answer it directly. However as a work around it's pretty easy to make a command set that tunes TACAN if the module has keybindings in the controls for changing the TACAN channels. You simply piggyback the profile onto the back of Vaicom I have 2 separate profiles for each aircraft, one is the standard Vaicom the other does stuff to control some of the cockpit stuff. You piggyback the cockpit command profile to Vaicom and it all works reasonablty well In the cockpit commands profile I have commands for each of the airfields in the Caucasus where I state "Tune Airfield* Tacan" and the corrrect station is assigned. *Airfield=named Airfield like Batumi, Kobuleti etc: If you want to try it or just want commands to tune a number drop me a PM and I can try to produce something. Im no Hollywood and it's not perfect but it works for me Here is an example (I know it's the F-14), but it sorta gives you the idea, where the piggybacked profile is tuning the pilot's Tacan. You might want to view it full screen in YouTube to see what's going on
