  1. Hey guys. Sorry for the dump of multiple questions, but I figured it's more logical to ask several questions here rather than add four or five separate ones to the F-18 subthread. That said, here we go... 1. In Lex's videos describing carrier operations, he explains that there is a 10 NM bubble around the carrier that you don't pierce until you talk to the controlling agency. What I'm unsure about is whether that is a 10 NM diameter or radius bubble. If radius, then I contact the agency at 10 NM DME from the carrier, but if it's diameter, then I would contact at 5 DME. I'm just a little confused with which it is. 2. I've read that when entering the CASE I stack, it's preferred that aircraft enter at either position 1 or 3, but that aircraft can enter from any heading. So, say the carrier's BRC is 000, and I'm entering from the north east, flying a heading of approximately 220. What cues do I use to know when to start turning so I don't fly too far into the stack or fly past it? If I enter at Point 1, I just align my TACAN with the BRC and fly offset to starboard of the carrier, like the break, but at my assigned altitude instead of 800 feet. If I enter at Point 3, I start turning when my DME reads 5.0. It's in those other in-between points I'm curious about. 3. I've read on the forums here that when exiting the CASE I stack, your commence heading should be BRC plus 210 degrees (or the reciprocal of BRC plus 30 degrees, however you want to look at it), descend to 800 feet, accelerate to 350 knots, and turn to intercept the BRC at or before 3NM aft of the carrier for the Initial. Now, when should I begin my turn towards Initial? My current procedure is (Carrier is BRC 000) commence at 210 degrees, descend to 800, accelerate to 350 knots, and begin my turn at 6 NM (sometimes 7NM), turning at 30 degrees angle of bank. However, this rarely gets me lined up with BRC for the Initial without some serious tweaking in the last few seconds of the turn. What is the correct or preferred procedure? Also, when do I accelerate to 350 knots? As soon as I commence? Once I hit 800 feet? At the initial? 4. Finally, I understand that the spin pattern is 1,200 feet, and the climb/descent procedure, but what is the spin airspeed? Is it 250, 350, on-speed, or something else? Again, sorry for the barrage of questions, but I really want to get all this figured out before the SC drops. I've been flying the Hornet and stock Stennis since day one, but I really want to get on the ball (pun intended) for the SC. Thanks and stay safe and healthy!!
  2. Hey guys. I'm having a problem with the Tomcat that has made it unflyable for me. When loading into the 'pit, the Oculus view is bugged out. It doesn't look like I'm in the cockpit, but rather like I'm looking at a video screen in the headset, if that makes sense. IOW, if I look 90 degrees left or right, I'm looking at black because I'm looking beyond the "border" of the "screen" instead of what's to my right or left. Same with up and down. If I look behind me, I can see another "screen" that shows what's behind me, but it's inverted so everything is upside-down. And there's black in between. Also, in the black, there is the Oculus loading hourglass. What's weirder is when I peek under the headset at my monitor, the Oculus Mirror is tracking just fine. You can see everything as meant to be seen on the monitor, but it's all screwy in the headset. This happens every time I load the Tomcat, and it's the only aircraft it happens on. I've Googled the problem but haven't found any solutions for this or any other aircraft in DCS. Can someone please help? I'm really feeling the itch to fly the 'Cat again. Thanks!!
  3. Gotchya. I figured it was important for the same reasons calling "Fox x" is. I also thought "paveway" was what was called when dropping an LGB, but that came from another not-to-be-named sim.
  4. Any airborne radar will be displayed with a "^" symbol over the number, sometimes also called a "roof symbol." If you see a "15" without that symbol above it, it is a ground-based radar, e.g. a SAM.
  5. I've been trying to find the brevity term for releasing a JDAM. I used to think it was "Bruiser," but that is for an anti-ship missile. Can anyone please enlighten me?
  6. +1! Edit: I'd also like to see a TAGM-88 HARM, although I believe that's been asked for in a different thread already.
  7. Our version is a USAF/ANG variant. Capabilities and equipment on Vipers of other countries are irrelevant.
  8. It seems there won't be a suite upgrade. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4144628&postcount=77 That post is a reply to my post, and the responses from post #70 onward. Apparently, just a weathered cockpit at the moment.
  9. It's pretty simple. The USAF has three combat wings flying Block 50s: 20th Fighter Wing, comprised of the 77th Fighter Squadron (currently the default skin for the DCS Viper), 55th FS, and 79th FS, Shaw AFB, South Carolina. The 52nd FW, comprised of the 480th FS, and prior to August 2010, the 22nd FS and 23rd FS, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany. The 35th FW, comprised of the 13th FS and 14th FS, Misawa AFB, Japan. The ANG has only one wing flying Block 50s: 148th FW, 179th FS, Minnesota ANG. There is a Testing and Evaluation Squadron based out of Eglin AFB, Florida (85th TES, 53rd Wing), but they are non-combat. There is also the South Carolina ANG (169th FW, 157th FS), but they fly Block 52s, not 50s. Luke AFB, Arizona also has the 425th FS of the 56th FW, but again, they fly Block 52s. They are also non-combat as they are a training wing. There may be other countries that fly Block 50s, but ED has modeled the USAF/ANG Block 50 Viper, not a foreign one.
  10. Can someone link me to the announcement where it was said we are getting a suite upgrade with JHMCS and the Sniper pod? I would gladly pay for that, but last I heard, it wasn't being done because it would require extensive contract renegotiations with the ANG.
  11. I'm wondering why the pilot in OP's video landed with the Master Arm in SIM and not SAFE. I'm curious if he got a talking-to during the debrief for that.
  12. I'd love for it to be implemented, even better if it's an option for those that don't want it. It's one of the few things I find missing from the A-10c, as it is a real world part of getting the mavericks ready.
  13. Bump. Anyone interested in taking this project on?
  14. How do you do this? Can you give a step-by-step? I don't want to mess anything up.
  15. I'll take a second look at my controller assignments just in case and report back.
  16. I've heard around the forums that the Litening was very vulnerable to grease and other debris from catapult shots, and there was also a significant chance of the pod breaking off the mount from the force of a carrier trap. I can't remember who said these things, so I can't be certain of their validity, but it's something to think about.
  17. Not sure if this is a bug or realistic, but in Wags's TGP video, he said you command the TGP to point track or area track by pressing SSS Right (presumably when the TGP is already selected as SOI), but I can command either by pressing SSS Depress.
  18. It sounds to me like you are deploying your flaps at the same time as your gear, both at 250 knots. I can't remember where I read it, but I saw some advice that I follow, and that is to deploy gear at 250 knots, but wait to deploy flaps until ~190. By that point, the nose-up tendency should be much more manageable, and you shouldn't have as hard a time staying on altitude.
  19. You can do it from the main screen. I do it as soon as I see the main menu and hear music. No need to wait.
  20. IRL, the trigger pulled by your index finger fires the machine guns and inner (wingroot) cannons simultaneously. The button on top of the stick (thumb) shoots the outboard cannons. However, this is implemented incorrectly at the moment. As it is in the sim right now, the index finger trigger fires only the machine guns, and the thumb button fires all cannons simultaneously. It needs to be tweaked to work as I stated in my explanation above.
  21. Online, yes, it can and most likely will be next to useless, but offline in SP, with the upcoming Dynamic Campaign, it will be an incredibly important aspect as it will prevent opposing forces from deploying their air forces, and prevent aerial resupplies.
  22. True, it won't make much difference online, but it certainly will offline with the new DC, whenever it's released.
  23. Thanks, Vampire. As it turns out, I had been looking at the Pocket Guide instead of Chuck's Guide. Chuck's is much more helpful.
  24. Thanks, Rudel. Quick question... How do I calculate the Gross Rate : Hover Rate ratio? All Al says to do is "put these two together."
  25. I've checked Chuck's guide, and while it says you have to calculate your NRAS, as well as saying there are (rather vague) limits to what type of landing to use, there aren't any actual charts given to calculate those values. Are there any charts that I can print to manually calculate all of these? Thanks!!
