Su27 vertical&horizontal scan - Help needed
DrDetroit replied to holimoli's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
The radar seem odd in the SU-27. Seems I can hardly pickup anything outside of 30nm or so, while my wing can see contacts much farther out and more quickly - more like 50nm or so. So I use his data link to find my targets alot, unless I'm within 10-15nm, then it's DF mode. I think your test confirm the 'strangeness' of the SU-27 radar. Good day, DrDetroit -
WOW! How in the hell does he do that lol. That's like insane good! Holy Shite! Good day, DrDetroit

Did you try using the file integrity check utility on Steam? That may help. It will validate the files and dl and install the missing/corrupt files.

If you get that close to a SU-27, you made an error and need to extend and get the heck outta there asap. The best vids for WVR fighting and basic energy management is done by Requiem for Rise of Flight (youtube). Quick and to the point with great explanations as he runs through the maneuvers individually. He breaks it down so one video showcases one maneuver. https://www.youtube.com/user/Requiem10NS Even though a highly detail WWI sim, the basics still apply and will help you. Good luck DrDetroit

If overtaking the target, you have to do a hi yo-yo. Basic energy management. This will keep you in vertical and not horizontal, which is where you lose all your energy. You can do keep yo yo-ing and bouncing all day without ever over taking and without the dreaded turning fight and the A/C is easily acquired for a lag pursuit and kill. Will give separation from the Aim-9 too if needed. Good luck! DrDetroit

[REPORTED]Tires still blowing out in 1.5 (possible old bug?)
DrDetroit replied to OnlyforDCS's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
If needed (landing too hot) I simply bump the brake button several times, in short quick bursts, and never fully engage it until I'm under 80kts. Haven't ahd any mishaps since doing it this way, and not coming in so fast. Good day, DrDetroit -
I'm not certain about multiplayer, haven't partaken in said activity in a long time with DCS, but my SP graphics cranked, with DoF turned off, looks photo real. The water is sooo much better too - again, photo realistic. A really nice step forward with the graphics in 1.5. So check your settings in the graphics tab - do yourself a favor and turn off DoF (Depth-of-Field). It just makes the image look blurry and smudged. Have fun and good luck! DrDetroit

Ha, that's funny. Had the same thing in my SU-27, when my wing (at my 3) fired at a F-15 at my 10...I hear him call the shot, look at him launch and see the R73 headed off his rail - right towards me! Had to pull hard up and that damn 73 missed me by mere inches...that IDIOT! Good stuff though. Oh, yea, last I had seem my wing, we were both hanging from parachutes over the black sea. Good day! Single Missions start in Auto Shutdown Sequence.
DrDetroit replied to kevinsue's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yup, the TM Warthog HOTAS was made for this module - literally (as you prob already know)! Fun module and quite demanding, great campaigns and missions for it to. Lots of goodies to find in the CDU functionality as well. Good luck! DrDetroit -
I hear the AI constantly announcing their return to base, over and over, I don't get ATC repeating their phrases. As for the AI piloted A/C it's a known issue. Good day, DrDetroit

Su-27 trim issue is in need of explanation
DrDetroit replied to Hummingbird's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
The pilot in the article below, who was able to test the SU-27 back in 1990, never really mentions any weird trim characteristics, and he gets a bit in-depth with the article. He does mention a few times about the "positive" flight characteristics, but that's about it. Check it out - posted elsewhere a few days ago - looks relevant to this discussion: http://aviationweek.com/site-files/aviationweek.com/files/uploads/2015/01/1990-%20Su-27%20Pilot%20Report%20%282%20of%202%29.pdf Good day, DrDetroit -
Old SU-27 flight report circa 1990
DrDetroit replied to ratherbegliding's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Interesting read. Thanks for posting. Didn't know the SU-27 has a "panic button", which is there to wing-level regardless of attitude. Do we have one of those for the inverted stall? Good day, DrDetroit -
Ok thanks - good to know. My wing is very helpful with my SA when we're BVR. Hope ED revises the AI and ATC in 2.0 - which I think I've read is on this list of updates.

Hi guys, So when I'm doing BVR training with a single mission I setup, my wing is always able to to ping the bandits far more quickly and farther out than I can. It's a mission I setup, with two SU-27s (my wing and I), two F-15s (OpFor), two Mig-21s (OpFor Migs) and two SU-30s (ally flight). The initial spread is about 180km, and seems my wing is able to get a fix on bandits anywhere from 80-100k out. Seems I'm only able to get a picture from my radar (on the HUD) when I'm within 20-30 miles max, and switching radar sub-modes from time to time, slewing the radar on the x, y, and z plane looking for the targets I can clearly see on my MFD, which is the data link of targets from my wing. Is this typical or am I missing something with the radar submods? Thanks guys! DrDetroit

Don't AIM-120s have Home-on-Jam (HOJ) ability? I believe it does...can't remember, been awhile since I fired a slammer from the F-15 (LOMAC era) or the F-16C (F4BMS). Good Day. DrDetroit

Su-27 same level of detail as A-10C
DrDetroit replied to Tomcat Driver's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
More like 45-year old aircraft. I think development started in 1970. Would be nice to have at least one fast mover with a fully integrated and clickable cockpit - and realistic comms especially. Don't know why they haven't done a hi-fidelity avionics version of any fast mover...it's all the old slow shit...which I love too, but nothing like cutting the crest of a mountain top at 1000kph in a F-15 or SU-27. Would be really nice to do so in a somewhat integrated and clickable pit. Just my $0.02 worth! Good day, DrDetroit -
How to install the A-10C into 1.5?
DrDetroit replied to Captain Midnight's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I think you have to go to DigitalCombatSimulator.com and log into your account. Make one if you don't have one. Then go to your profile (upper right hand of page), and do a License Check (type your key into the space provided), and if all good with the license you can active (or link) that module to your account and it will be available in-game. Had to do this with my Steam modules when I installed 1.5 beta separate from my Steam version of the sim. Good luck! DrDetroit -
You can turn, or rotate, the pilot using rudder pedals. As mentioned already, use the stick to walk forward, backward, left and right.

Su27 - A complete guide to combat employment and tactics

Great help, thanks for posting. Question; does the ASC disconnect automatically reconnect or I have to hit S again? Thanks again! DrDetroit -
Fuel efficiency & autopilot at high altitude.
DrDetroit replied to DarkFire's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
I must be using far too much throttle then because I was just thinking after my last flight what a gas hog this a/c is. I'm running out of fuel after about 600km, full tanks - takeoff from Gelendzik and turn around at Sochi to RTB . I keep the throttle at about 90% when cruising at about 7000k. Maybe I need to move it down to 80% throttle and climb higher 10,000k or so. In any event, haven't flown the Flanker since LOMAC, and I'm in love with this a/c again. What a beauty! Reminds me of the Millennium Falcon a little; the way it belches black smoke and the odd groans and noises during startup - beat up old school steam gauge cockpit and lack of a proper HOTAS - cool stuff! Can't wait to jump in it later tonight. Not missing my A-10C, UH-1H or F-16 blk-50 either (yet)! Good day, DrDetroit -
Taking control of an AI aircraft during Replay.
DrDetroit replied to Deano87's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
In mission editor, look at the top toolbar. I think it's "mission" then settings - or something to that effect. I don't have it open right now. Just look around and you'll find where there is a submenu that pops up with all the tick boxes you can select for the mission. Good day! DrDetroit -
I too was going to get FC3, I went with the single module from Steam and purchased the SU-27 instead. I'm with OP - I have the A10C, so don't need the A model, and until the Mig-29 get's updated I'm not interested yet and the SU-25 - ugg. Very happy with my choice. SU-27 is a fantastic module, high quality, and I believe has the PFM already. Love it to death (many deaths so far - not easy to fly at first - likes to invert and stall while doing high AoA maneuvers if not careful). Would be nice if ED added some bits of an interactive cockpit - would be cool but not absolutely necessary I suppose. A bit more detailed Nav system, ILS and Comms would also be welcomed. Was thinking about the F-15, but I just had to get the SU-27 first. F-15 next! Good luck! DrDetroit

Love the Russian fast movers too. I just purchased the SU-27 and absolutely loving it. Passing over the crest of mountain tops at >1000 kph skimming the trees as the valley open up and the ground drops away quickly is a blast. Truest sense of flight at speed you can get from a desktop sim. Not as sophisticated or complicated as the A-10C module, or other hi-fidelity sims, but quite nice none-the-less. Just wish they'd get to adding some clickable elements to the pit. Good luck! DrDetroit

The bugs and dirt helps line up my guns as well as helps my formation flying...although it is too dark.
