I'm running windows 10 on a 5800X3D with a 4070 and 32gb RAM. I've been messing around with a Quest 3 in DCS. Anyone think I would see a benefit to moving to windows 11 or should I just wait for the end of support in October?

Hunting for the stutter-free VR experience.
Roosterfeet replied to Panzerlang's topic in Virtual Reality
So I'm still running Windows 10 on a 5800x3D with, a 4070 and 32 gb RAM driving a Quest 3. Do you think I would see a performance benefit if I moved to Windows 11? -
I see thin black lines bordering the foviated area when using quadviews. Not a deal breaker but I would certainly prefer not to have them. Has anyone else encountered that? Here are my quadviews settings: turbo_mode=1 smoothen_focus_view_edges=0.2 sharpen_focus_view=0 peripheral_multiplier=0.5 focus_multiplier=1 horizontal_fixed_section=0.45 vertical_fixed_section=0.9 vertical_fixed_offset=0

I've had pretty good results so far running DCS at 36 fps with ASW on in my new Quest 3. The only deal breaker is that whenever I have clear blue sky above me, I get horrible distortion all over the sky. It looks like really bad compression artifacts. I'm pretty sure it's not a bandwidth issue though; my third party link cable checks out and when I turn off ASW, the problem goes away. Anyone have experience with this issue?

I'm considering purchasing a headset and I'm leaning toward Quest 3 over Pimax Crystal Light. What's pushing me towards Quest 3 is mainly the large sweet spot, one eye is a few mm higher than the other and I have a hard time adjusting the older headsets I've tried so that both eyes sit in the sweet spot. Also, I'm running a RTX 4070 with a Ryzen7 5800X3D so I know I'll have to make some visual compromises but I'm hoping that ASW will help keep the frame rate at an acceptable level. I have a few questions for those with experience. What extra items do I need to get up and running, just the link cable so I'm not dependent on wifi signal quality? Will that also help with battery life? Does Quest 3 hand tracking work well enough to actuate buttons and switches in DCS?

Found it. I did completely forget after a couple of months of doing other things.

For some reason when flying as CPG, I can't change George from FLT to H-B or CMBT and longer. The Geroge AI Helper section of the CPG controls menu only has interface show/hide and request control listed. Did something change or did I completely forget how to do it?

Mission 10, after latest update
Roosterfeet replied to kadorno's topic in DCS: F-16C The Gamblers Campaign
I ran into the SPI bug where my TGP was pointed miles from selected waypoint and there was no CZ option. I was able to resolve it by cycling through delivery modes on the SMS page. -
AGM-45 Shrike Quick Guide by Klarsnow - updated June 5th 2024
Roosterfeet replied to HB_Painter's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Are Shrikes currently working in WRCS AGM-45 mode with Loft fuses? I've had success with Direct mode and direct fuses but I haven't been able to get a shrike fired in WRCS AGM-45 mode with loft fuses to track. Just want to know if it's user error before I continue to troubleshoot. -
Is there a way to turn off the check lists that are displayed on the left side of the screen during the training missions?

I've been reflying RotPL 1 and 2 lately and I've also noticed weird aerodynamic behavior when crossing the ramp that people attribute to wake turbulence enabled. Glad to hear you're not enforcing it in the new campaign. Landing grades aside, I'm really enjoying a second run through of these campaigns. Great work.

Is the default F18 campaign decent/worth playing?
Roosterfeet replied to PawlaczGMD's topic in Missions and Campaigns
The included campaign isn't very good. There are numerous third party campaigns for sale that are fantastic though. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend Operation Bold Cheetah by Sedlo. It's free but it has paid DLC quality and then some. -
I just got a set of Skywalker/Orion rudder pedals and they seem pretty plug and play. Is there any actual advantage to running SimApp Pro? The pedals are my only Winwing peripheral, btw.

not planned Easy/Medium/Hard/Realistic refueling options.
Roosterfeet replied to PhantomHans's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It would honestly be nice to have built in simulator tools to modify parameters in a running mission like the Olympus mod is trying to implement. Altering fuel states would be extremely handy for many situations, be it for learning, avoiding a frustration, or working around AI refusing to cooperate. The more control they can give to single players and server admins the better. People tend to only look at DCS according to how they engage with it. Then they get defensive when someone wants to do it differently. But there are many ways to engage with DCS and no "right way." -
I tried out 3.7 yesterday. With DLAA enabled using 3.5, I notice banding on the P-51 reflector glass and ghosting on aircraft when tracking them in a dogfight. Both of those issues are significantly reduced for me using 3.7.

Will the Hook ever be functionally implemented ?
Roosterfeet replied to Shrike88's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Also, some of the third party campaign designers like to include scripted failures and emergency procedures in their campaigns. -
Bold Cheetah - A 13 Mission DCS F/A-18 Campaign by Sedlo
Roosterfeet replied to Sedlo's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Thanks, gave it another go with flares set to release 20 at half second intervals. I popped them proactively, like you said, as soon as I got in gun range and started firing. I broke hard when I saw smoke in the air. The Igla tracked a flare and the gun run was a success.- 415 replies

Any advice on completing the gun run in Mission 9 without getting by the manpad?- 415 replies

Just tried it and the convoys never triggered. Wish I could post my .trk but it's too large.

I had this exact problem while flying mission 12 of First in Weasels Over Syria. After targeting a SAM and dropping a JDAM I never could get my HAD to lock targets again and CZ would only work momentarily on the TGP before the view reset to who knows where. The CZ issue could be worked around by turning off power to the HTS. Couldn't replicate it in a short air start mission. I'll post a track if it happens again.

Ok, I just created a mission and flew 40 minutes from London to Paris with ~37.5" at 2400 rpm at 9500 ft. and had no trouble. I doubt my channel crossing like that is what killed my engine yesterday. Is it likely that if I significantly overboosted the engine at some point earlier, I could fly across the channel at a normal cruise setting and have an engine failure without warning?
-
Thanks for the replies! The first pic is right before the failure and the third pic is right after. Before failure, I've got about 37" on at 2400 rpm, that might be a hair too much. I had it set to 36" but I think I lost a little altitude and it crept up. 1. Is 37.5" at 2400 rpm enough to cause an engine failure? 2. Is it better just to leave the engine at 2700 rpm unless I want to go above 46"? 3. Is it safe to leave at 3000 rpm after takeoff and just vary manifold pressure or will it run too hot like that?
