  1. Wasn’t the Yak-38 utterly useless…? or was that just Cold War propaganda/ bias???
  2. That will depend on / show how serious ED are about WW2 Pacific / Marianas… … and if Mag3 are doing the Essex class that would pose a very interesting question of “what carrier” ED would need to offer to go with the much speculated Hellcat CV-6 Enterprise / Yorktown class would be the most obvious choice, but Illustrious class would inject some variety and also be useful for ETO / MTO, maps allowing
  3. I agree with the last paragraph… but not sure about the general thrust of your post. Yes, the P51, P47 and Spit IX were good aircraft. Numbers and thorough pilot training were also on the Allies side, but well flown 109s and 190s could still be lethal. (in DCS our main problem is the AI enemy…) Also, not entirely convinced by your timeline for claiming that the Allied aircraft simply outclassed: ”at this point in the war the Allied planes were simply much better than the Germans on all fronts” simply reads as a sweeping generalisation. Wiki might not be the most reliable source (my German is not good enough for primary source material), but suggests the A8 entered production in Feb 44. The Jumo power plant had also been a longer game, with the first 190D prototype flying in 1942… and don’t forget, the 109K and and 262 would probably be pushing back on the simply much better than the Germans on all fronts… On the other side, the Spit IX wasn’t exactly a late 44 / early 45 aircraft, having first entered service in 1942 (!!!). There’s real experts on the complexity of the Spitfire model history on here, but I’d guess that the Merlin 66 LF Mk IX in DCS is probably an early 44 model?? (so a contemporary of the A8) no idea on the Mustang and Jug variants in the game… based on the frequent complaints about lack of comparable versions to the K4 and D9, and lack of 150 octane fuel, I suppose they must also be 44ish versions??
  4. Hmm, not sure I go with this… I’n pretty sure that Allied pilots held the 190 in very high respect as a deadly adversary… we are not talking about one of WW2’s “dud” aircraft here. But in DCS it is totally outclassed in any sortie where there is Allied fighter opposition - and we aren’t talking about RL settings where the benefits of US production numbers, pilot training and tactics tip the balance I only fly SP, so the problem is as much with the AI physics / FM and SA as it is with particular Anton deficiencies The Anton is my go to hack / GA aircraft if I want to explore a map area or just want to get some flight hours logged. It’s also a lot of fun as a Jabo, but homebrew missions that omit airborne opposition are the best bet

So, are low level “dicing” missions likely to be feasible in DCS…? or is the AI too quick and too “all seeing”? Is the Spit likely to be the most suitable for high speed, low level PRU incursions? anything faster (at low level) in the hanger?
  6. ZERO…!!!! (I saw them) well, actually no… hugely excited to see a pair of “Zeros” feature in the Marianas trailer - faded to disappointment as freeze frame revealed them to be Antons a cheap ruse
  7. I guess ED are working in the basis that many pilots will want to use the 20mm cannons and RPs…? But agree with all above ^^ I’m sure all of us on this sub are looking forward to replicating the Mosquito’s low level strike missions (out of interest - were fuse delays set on the ground by the armorers, of could they be adjusted when airborne?)

Royal Navy escort carriers operated Corsairs…
  9. As the question really… Not sure if Ron Goodwin’s classic score is still under copyright… … but no other music screams “Mossie” like this: https://youtu.be/XWXQUhBsUVM
  10. No dissing of Ron Goodwin’s iconic theme tune on my part…
  11. Completely agree… been waiting 40 odd years for this module
  12. To four engines, multi crew and flying by moonlight No, no, no - to Lancs, B-17s, B-24s, Stirlings, Halifaxes, and Nachtjagdgeschwader… … but I’ve been researching a relative’s wartime service, and after many years frustration have uncovered a hidden truth that is beyond interesting. There’s a cat and mouse game here that would be a hugely more interesting and demanding addition to DCS than is credited by the superficial “fly around in the dark, see nothing, struggle navigating, drop bombs, go home (or get shot down by an unseen enemy)” brigade… Firstly - shot down by unseen enemy is common enough anyway Anyway, rewinding, I’ve drawn a blank for about 10 years… relative died in early 1980s, so everything based on 40+ year old childhood recollections - he also never said anything much about his war in Bomber Command, even to his immediate family - reasons that become clear to see. I knew he was on Stirlings - so that tied down timeframe to mid war… but nothing found from searching the main Stirling squadrons and raids. The moment came when I recalled his mention of the Fortress - odd as it isn’t often thought of as an RAF / Bomber Command aircraft… A little digging here produced gold though - a squadron that transitioned from Stirlings to B-17s in early 1944… very odd…! and Top Secret This might have been the world’s first EW squadron - no bombs carried, but full of kit to harvest, track, intercept and jam all of the Luftwaffe’s radar and comms - a world of Airborne Cigar, Jostle, Window, Piperack and Mandrel. and to top it all…? A German born radio operator to speak directly to German nightfighter pilots and give them duff intercept vectors…! This I want in DCS…!!! All the skills of flying, All the tension and suspense of Silent Hunter

Interesting interview post… A flyable 88 would be really good … as would a Beaufighter and, errr, a Mosquito… (I suspect the Mossie might satisfy your wish for a twin???) I guess the next challenge for ED’s expansion of DCS will need to be more crew - there are a lot of interesting twins, but the multi-crew element will curtail stuff like the B-25, Blenheim, He111, Do17, and indeed the Ju88 After that - viermotor…! but… SH3, now we are talking Largely gave up flight sims for SH3+GWX, probably one of my favourite games / mods ever. A great shame that the GWX team called it a day, and an even greater shame that SH5 didn’t deliver
  14. Looks like the Corsair might land first…
  15. Looks amazing… can’t wait seems like we’ll be getting a FAA version as well - just as well, as the Yanks didn’t know what they were doing
  16. …according to this month’s Aeroplane magazine - entered service on 13th July 1941 80 years on, the 13th July 2021 would make an excellent date for the DCS Mosquito to “enter service”…!
  17. Where’s the options for; 1x 12,000lbs 1x 22,000lbs…? oh, hold on wrong plane
  18. With the Spitfire Mk IX in the hangar, and the Mossie due… what would be the appetite for some PRU aircraft? Both would require a bit of work - either by ED or as a mod… The Spitfire PR Mk IX possibly the easiest, but only a limited number of Mk IX conversions IRL. Mosquito PR Mk IX would require more work from the base FB Mk VI, but with the glass nose and streamlined cockpit screen would also make an easy B Mk IX… Idea came from thinking through a low level scout around France before the Mossie dropped - particularly to see what is around Amiens
  19. All of this ^^ is why I’d love to see some mid war a/c… As much as I’d love to see a Tempest and Sea Fury, it leads us further down the heavier, faster, higher takeoff and landing speeds, more difficult to fly route… A Spit Vb, 109F / early G, earlier Anton (A4?) would be perfect for the Channel map
  20. Sadly, that’s right… there are two clear Ju88 shots at 0:49 and 3:10, but I took the one at 3:26 to be a Mosquito Perils of using the phone for all things internet… clearly a Ju88 on the big monitor
  21. Thread for suggestions on what WW2 aircraft to take for a spin… I know this forum section is only for ED Modules, but as it’s WW2 specific it’s probably the best spot for a broad view across the “fleet” For me personally, I would be most interested in giving the little I-16 a go, so would welcome any thoughts on the Ishak
  22. Finally, a new vid which actually shows the Mossie… albeit only as a target although it does seem to be back flying in game
  23. Ahh, missed it as I was scouring the Hind vids… … it’s in the Free to Play vid Could be interesting - as pointed out in the “Wishlist” forum, the Tornado looks like it is the only (currently) non-flyable modern aircraft in the vid.
  24. Well, free to play at the mo, so easy to try them all
  25. Missed that - What time stamp??? ETA - more showcasing of Cyprus… which looks stunning
