Not good flying weather… https://youtu.be/xFI81KJaw_A

Well, I’m still itching to find out what Merlin 25s can do down on the deck
-
OK, so I’ve just hit 540kph at 300m… … a significant improvement on my previous 510 or so. Manifold pressure gauge also registered 1.42ATA on this flight, compared to 1.38-1.4 on previous. Only difference - tweaked the field temperature down from 20C to 15C in the ME Thanks to @grafspee for the heads up on Ts&Ps settings
-
Will refly with those met parameters … but I still don’t see that we are getting 540 at sea level? For me this isn’t about “winning an internet argument” - I’m an Engineer in my day job (not aeronautical…!) and want to better understand the performance and modelling
-
The charts still show a deficiency in performance*… * based on my read of them and simplified maths
-
So, my original test ^^ was at 300m (≈1000’)… and bearing in mind this was just me trying to benchmark what the A8 was capable of compared to the other warbirds… So, from the chart, line 1 for the standard clean Anton, the TAS at 300m should be 560kph at 1.42ATA I’m getting 510kph IAS at 300m (only 1.4ATA or just below) Allowing 2% per 1000’ conversion IAS to TAS would give an estimate of 520kph at 300m (i.e. 1.02 x 510) If correct that is 40kph short of the 560 indicated on the test chart Now, I might have misread the chart or used an overly simplistic IAS / TAS conversion or the BMW isn’t giving what it should? (I don’t get the full 1.42ATA shown on the chart)
-
No, haven’t made it to Amiens yet… trying to work out which is going to be the best aircraft Looks like it will have to be a Mustang Mk IV
-
I wasn’t suggesting any equivalence between the different aircraft… just trying to get an idea of benchmarking each one. FWIW, the 109K-4 was very similar to the Mustang, and the Spitfire similar to the Anton - BUT all very different airframes, weights etc would be interested in a link to the thread where ED addressed this
-
Just flown again at 1500m… 505kph with rad flap “Auf”, 515kph rads “Zu” slightly higher MP in Zu - 1.4ATA, compared to just under 1.4 in Auf Again, everything clean, flaps up, no stores pylon, bubble centred / no slip. Flying over Marianas in open beta ETA P51D 25-NA hits 560-565 under same conditions
-
[TAGS]…. …. are these added by ED Mods? e.g. BN / NL…? Also, is the F2 speed readout a reasonable figure for TAS…?
-
I’ve been getting about 510kph at 300m… will re-fly at 1500m to be consistent with performance criteria quoted above, but 315mph feels more early war Spit Ia / 105E comparable??? Also, being relatively stable in flight, the Anton is easy to keep trimmed and in a constant pitch / yaw attitude, so observed speeds shouldn’t be too affected by ham-fisted piloting. On the same route I got a bit more out of the Spit IX - about 525kph / 325mph, but I’m not as smooth on the controls with the Spit, so would expect higher speeds with better flying
-
As posted in the Anton vs Dora thread… … I can get about 510 kph at 300m, clean and level. That’s about 315mph
-
Tried the same flight as above, but using Anton not Dora… Level flight at 300m, no load out, fuel load adjusted to same TO weight as the Dora run, and yes the Anton would also just about hit 500-510kph - but absolutely maxed out, whereas the Dora was considerably throttled back… That’s only 315mph
-
I guess I’d see the “WW2 Fleet Carrier” module as an equivalent to Supercarrier… The modelling, AI, damage etc on this carrier would need to be to a good standard as that is the vessel that players are going to interact with most. Destroyers, cruisers and maybe a battleship or two would need to be added to make a suitable fleet. Fletcher class would be the obvious USN DD, not so sure about US cruisers, but the BB class could be Iowa class, or perhaps North Carolina? Don’t know enough about the IJN - they had very fast and powerful DDs, and their heavy cruisers were a potent threat. Not sure the Yamato class is worth modelling??? Iconic, but so little used…? In terms of difficulty integrating sensors, and AAA suites etc, go fly against the US armed assault transport, Samuel L Chase. That thing has ridiculous AA protection - radar, plus 4” (or 3”??) HA, 40mm and 20mm. There’s no need to worry about how ED will integrate sensors and AAA. That thing lets loose with everything in a devastating and accurate wall of fire ETA - the ASW element just isn’t needed. We aren’t after a Dangerous Waters replacement
-
B.IX could carry the 4000lbs cookie - one of the reasons I thought the B.IX / PR.IX pair might represent the sweet spot of variants vs dev work
-
Well, the question was about dogfighting… so the answer probably narrows in on the Spitfire and 109…? I guess by “dogfight” the OP means a circle fight to get on the opponents tail Haven’t flown the Mustang that much, but from what I’ve heard it’s the better one at high altitude? But otherwise Spit or 109.
-
Weight difference as well, presumably…
-
…. and there’s me thinking the Spitfire is the best dog fighter in DCS
-
Been flying both Anton and Dora - a lot… still can’t quite figure why there is such a discrepancy in performance??? Sure, at max revs / boost and MW50 the Dora massively trumps Anton for power, but even at 1.1ATA /2500(?) rpm the Dora will bowl along at 500kph in level flight at 300m
-
It would be great to get this pair in the game at a later stage FB Mk VI first of course…! PR I / B Mk IV / PR Mk IV would be an alternative grouping, but was thinking the Mk IX similarities might give a pair without excessive extra work?

Battle of Britain missing italian airplane of C.A.I.

Would also need Me110, He111, Ju87 and Do17 I must admit I’ve always been really keen in earlier versions of the Spit and 109. A Spitfire 1a / 109E for BoB would be great at some point A Spit Vb / 109F combo would also be good for cross Channel rhubarbs -
DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
rkk01 replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Good to finally see some shots, but they are all internal (and very similar to some of the previous views) Looking forward to some new externals -
No bug… just pilot error with the gauge selector largely hidden by the upper dash, I had moved the selector to the mid position, not to hintern. Equally had pulled the fuel selector lever all the way down to Zu, starving the engine and seemingly “confirming” the “empty rear tank” gauge reading… ah well, every day is a school day

Was scrolling through the WW2 Assets Pack sub earlier and NL mentioned 2 WW2 maps in dev, with one planned to be free, but with a modern version… In hindsight, Channel and Marianas… but the clear implication was that Marianas started life as a WW2 map. Makes me wonder whether the plan was always to have a WW2 Carrier battles / island hopping / turkey shoot environment and maybe Covid prompted a backpedal and re-think… esp re research travel for the numerous assets required??? Marianas modern works as a fallback if you theorise a modern tropical flashpoint for the already in-game assets

More ships??? oh yes My great uncle served on this one: (before she was transferred to Royal Hellenic Navy) Norway, Atlantic, Med, W Africa, Bismarck action and Arctic convoys
