  1. I’ve been posting about this all over the forums . Making a proper nuisance of myself BUT, when you read on the HB Typhoon sub that folks are salivating over which version of Captor will be shipped with the TG Typhoon, or the ED Newsletters about F-16/18 radar improvements and non-ED forums about Blue Fox info… … then you start to feel that the “can’t do” an FRS1 / Blue Fox starts to feel a bit lame And Yes, the South Atlantic map is pointless without it…. …. e.g. why is there a HMS Invincible without the Sea Harrier??? F F S, based on Kill : Loss ratios the SHAR is the second most successful jet in history… EVER. It absolutely deserves its place in the DCS digital aviation museum (… and don’t even get me started on the success of the F-15’s non-peer combat stats - just look up the FAA’s training record of “embarrassing” the USAF’s Eagle jocks)

    Gr7/9 upgrade

Having looked around online, on these forums and other sites… …the argument re the FRS1 / Blue Fox radar meaning the Sea Harrier isn’t plausible seems like baloney to me. There’s information out there to come up with a convincing “simulation” of Blue Fox - after all, what do we think all the other DCS aircraft have??? They’re all going to be simplified approximations. I do get that the AMRAAM capable Blue Vixen in the Sea Harrier FA2 was highly protected, and was a precursor to the Typhoon’s Captor system… … which all makes perfect sense - until you read the speculation on the HB / TG about which version of Captor the DCS Typhoon will ship with RAZBAM - just get on and model it - nobody here will know if it’s realistic or not. Use the Falklands SMEs that are still around to guide you. The thing is 3 gens out of date
  3. I guess “do both” but separately…? A campaign could have an initial bombardment of beach defences, Caen, Cherbourg and some of the Wehrmacht logistics hubs - all in Normandy… … followed by / interspersed with Op Crossbow raids on the V-weapons sites on Channel map If the TIs arrive in time we would need to strap them on the P-51D (RAF Mustang III) to try some low-level target marking…
  4. You could realistically crop anything south of Cologne or east and north of Hamburg. Still a huge map, and would certainly trigger the age old discussions around a game save or time acceleration I think the flight time / distance element is another reason to look at the raids on Caen and the Pas de Calais
  5. Operation Crossbow targets are on the Channel map (would be a shame not to seeing as @Scoobyon has already teased us with a Tallboy ) just need some TIs for the Mossie
  6. I’ve made a few SP missions - for the Mossie and the MB-339… but there is a looooooooooong list of South Atlantic assets that Razbam showcased and then have seemingly dropped I get that the F-15E is the commercial imperative, but I think we all hoped / expected that a whole fleet of Royal Navy (and Argentine) assets would follow. At one point they were badged as an asset pack, which I’m ok with Most of all though…. Where’s the flippin SHAR We’ve got Invincible… but there’s naff all point having her without the Sea Harrier - it’s what the map was MADE FOR Add the Sea Harrier I’d expect a flurry of intense, sh1tty weather A2A and A2G missions and campaigns (and no, the AV-8B is not a suitable stand in)
  7. All this talk of which version of Captor for the EF… … but nobody seems able to pierce the veil of secrecy on the previous generations - Blue Vixen and Blue Fox If HB / TG are able to make sufficient non-classified assumptions about Captor, Meteor and Iris-T, then surely it must be with DCS capability to model Blue Fox
  8. Haven’t tried the F-14 South Atlantic missions…. ….. but we could badly do with a Sea Harrier FRS1 campaign for South Atlantic (and an aircraft to fly them in) Of course, that’s not on Heatblur’s “to do” list - but I am curious how some systems get modelled and some systems get left alone under the shroud of “classified” information
  9. We do seem to be getting weekly image releases now would be great to see some video though… that would certainly make the Corsair seem tantalisingly close
  10. Still hoping there might be room for this in DCS… https://forum.dcs.world/topic/338308-uk-aircraft-classified-status-and-systems-modelling/ With the AV8B in their stable, it would really need to be a Razbam product…
  11. Both a wish list item and a clarification question… Post-war UK aircraft are reported to be notoriously difficult for DCS due to blanket security classifications imposed by the UK Govt - see this depressing thread about the Sea Harrier FRS1 and the Blue Fox / Blue Vixen radar systems. Obviously the Sea Harrier should be a key aircraft for the South Atlantic map… https://forum.dcs.world/topic/221201-wip-shots-of-the-frs1-sea-harrier/page/4/#comments My wish list item / clarification question would be - why should this be an absolute block??? Surely there should be room for educated approximation of system’s performance?? It seems like we will struggle to get a Sea Harrier, Tornado, Jaguar, UK Phantoms etc… … yet we will soon be able to take to the virtual skies in a EF Typhoon, presumably with Iris-T and Meteor. These modern systems MUST be based on limited published data and a suite of developer assumptions and, of course we have all / most of the 4th gen jets in the US arsenal
  12. The biggest “walkaway” feature of DCS WW2 is the accuracy of AI gunnery. We might love the warbirds, but using them soon becomes dispiriting my personal record… 16km …my Mossie kept losing a wing at a similar point every time I flew a home made mission. I couldn’t work out why as there was nothing else around. I finally figured out that I was flying into the 8” / 200mm gunnery range of the Prinz Eugen mod I had placed off Cap Gris Nez talk about madness - 1 shot, 1 wing, 16km, every time
  13. Shame on ED for not addressing this long-standing issue Most contemporary accounts credit the 190 as a fearsome and feared adversary. Yes, the Spitfire IX countered the 190, but hardly as a clean sweep. Interesting article in Aeroplane regarding the wartime evaluation of MP499. Admittedly this was an A3, but the verdict seemed to be that it would be superior up to circa 30k feet until the Tempest arrived in numbers (excluding turning fight)
  14. Thanks everyone - sounds like flat screen for my current generation of PC hardware I have certainly noticed a drop in performance on Sinai / DCS 2.9
  15. It’s a relatively old system… i5-6600k on an ASUS Z170-A m/b cpu is running at 3.9 gig 32gig DDR4 RAM RTX3060 GPU the Reverb G2 V2 kind of matched my budget / expectations when I initially looked at VR for DCS, but the price has remained high in the UK (£620) and I suspect other headsets might offer similar / more for less £££ I don’t find the standard online / mag reviews that helpful as they’re not really aimed at our sort of sims
  16. A year a so back I planned to get a Reverb G2 - life stuff got in the way, but possibly back in the market so what should I be looking at back end of 2023?? (likely only be used for DCS - maybe civvysim)
  17. Update on Facebook - looking very good https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0uP361eSgtc2TArDhd2EpkJb34LV6fvRpNx7WEsNzjHBMQeT3SHi5BNQBBQ9stTQql&id=100057409782744
  18. Don’t want to be a doom-monger, but ENCLOSRE|RELEASE is also on previous F4U images presumably just for emergency rescue crews
  19. Am I right in thinking it was only FGR.2 models that were based at Stanley / Mount Pleasant?
  20. My suggestion for a fictional F-4 campaign would be post-1982… RAF Mount Pleasant as a base for both air defense and strike ops
  21. (I know…. groan) OK, so the UK never operated the E model - but we do have RAF Mount Pleasant for some entertaining “what if” scenarios in the stormy South Atlantic
  22. So then… … individual simulation of thousands of individual components Sounds like an ambitious idea - but could potentially allow “rapid” (?!) swapping out / in of the different suites of kit for different models??? Would sir like Rolls Royce engines with that?
