Grudge Match 3 - Score Betting Competition
Vincent90 replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Community News
So the betting opens when the match starts, but when will the betting close? -
Incredibly interesting, I hope you find the time to do more of these explanations :)

...except both Dora and Kurfurst weren't 'the best enemy fighters at the end of the war', that trophy goes to the jet fighters. The Luftwaffe already recognized the 109 and 190 designs as outdated in early 1942 when compared against new designs from Heinkel. The realities of the war made it not pragmatic to change production to a superior design. Although this whole debate is useless. There is more that makes a great aircraft than just a single characteristic like speed.

Cobra, is it already clear over how many threads and cores you'll spread the workload, i.e. what will be the optimal processor to run the DCS with Viggen? And for us fans, here is a Viggen in its natural habitat

Grudge Match Series: Mig 21 Vs F-5 ROUND 2 DEBRIEF/AAR
Vincent90 replied to Hook47's topic in Multiplayer
Excellent commentary! I usually don't watch other people play video games, but the commentary really made it worth while  Any chance the stream from round 3 will be uploaded in HD? -
Soooo, you want a G-14 instead of the K-4?
Vincent90 replied to Kurfürst's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
It is just a matter of time before we'll get the Spitfires and 109s that were used in the Battle of Britain, those should be comparatively well matched. Although honestly, there is just no chance that people will be satisfied. In real life, aircraft aren't designed to be well-matched, and you'll always continue to have adenoidal people around here :) -
I never understood this argument. In what freaking way is DCS complex or difficult? How stupid must you be if you have difficulty in understanding "take-off, fly around a bit and land". Even driving on a bicycle in traffic is many times more difficult than DCS. I understand what the OP means. I'm a dedicated SP player because I see no fun in Air Quake. About a decade ago there was a FPS called "America's Army 2.0". Multi-player shooters up until then were focused on the shooting part of the game "Kill, get killed, repeat". That game put the team and mission part first, before anything else. - You had one life per round - A kill barely had any result on your score. You only killed if it had any result on succesfully completing the mission - Before being able to become a medic or a marksman, you had to complete a single-player training, which made you understand what your role in the bigger picture was about. - Communication and teamwork was crucial to completing the objective. The team that was best organized won. It wasn't about the individual, it fostered a satisfaction that you did it as a team. Failing or dying had an immediate impact for yourself (not being able to play anymore for ~15 minutes) and for your team (Losing a good team mate really hurt, although you didn't knew the guy) That kind of tension is completely lacking in DCS It's pretty hard to explain what that game did, but it still has a community last time I checked, so you can try it and see what I mean. That feeling is completely lacking in DCS, and it is a shame really since this game could be so much better by implementing a more America's Army-like mechanic.

Those GE nozzles opening and closing are just sheer pornography Has anyone info on the price difference between the GE and P&W's?

According to the Vietnamese archives, the kill ratio between F-4 and MiG-21 is about 1:1. Like it was said before: It was thanks to superior training that the F-4 stood a chance against the MiG-21. Not that this all matters a lot, since the 21bis wasn't delivered to Vietnam until 1987, and in any case, the early MiG-23's are more of an analogue to the F-4 than the 21 ever was :)

1950-1980, voted for the 1979 option though. The golden years of Soviet aviation *sigh* Seriously, we need more PVO stuff.
-
A definitive list of stuff we have in the module, but isn't there on the real-life aircraft should solve most problems no? That way purists can simply not use the stuff that isn't realistic, and the gameplay-focused people can still use it. :)

That occurs when the standard Windows Notepad is used. To modify the file, you need to use Notepad++. It is a small program which can be easily uninstalled after use :) You can also set the standard cockpit language to English (or was it Russian?) and then tick the "custom cockpit" box in the Special-> MiG-21bis box. Note that this will influence all DCS aircraft.

Do you even have the aircraft Frederf? -
Gear and landing with the braking parachute.
Vincent90 replied to simapajik's topic in Flight Dynamics
You'll see him descending pretty fast before going 0 m/s and pulling the brake chute to enter the final stage of landing. Not my way of landing, but nothing wrong with it. My DCS rig is broken for a couple of months now so can't test the current MiG-21 build, but IIRC the MiG-21 landing gear sensitivity is not so bad as long as you keep your vertical altitude at a 2 m/s descend, what this pilot manages to do. By the way, 300 km/h is WAAAAAAAY to slow to land the plane, try to land at 360 km/h and the landing will be a lot smoother. Have fun! ;) -
There are plenty of sources for the Yefim Gordon book online Here is the official Soviet manual for the MiG-21bis: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzWWZyfLRUM-cFRLaHRWYjNaV0k A write-up I found online: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzWWZyfLRUM-LTRuRkMtbmN6NUE US Air Force write-up of captured/defected MiG-21's (note: non are Bis) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzWWZyfLRUM-SktoV0txWm92SkU Enjoy ;)

Do you want a tank module for DCS Normandy
Vincent90 replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
DCS is a study level environment and a proper full systems simulated tank would be completely correct. The same questions you ask are the same that people asked when the P-51 came out. If one sheep leaps over the ditch, the rest will follow. ;) I have a feeling ED has seen that they can do better than Steel Beasts and is already working on it. Why else produce a realistic copy of Fort Irwin, instead of opening up the map towards Edwards and Fallon? And wouldn't it be interesting for the russian DoD to have an Armata sim on a SB/DCS-level without giving info to the americans? -
Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
Vincent90 replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Or not.... They tried that with adult videos for a while before they figured out that most problems are coming from stolen credit cards/accounts. And even if it worked, there is nothing Starway can do about it to penalize the robber. Starway, why don't you put the texture pack up at Indiegogo? You'll find more backers that way than a "donate and pray you haven't burned your money" system. -
I'll just leave this here :)

I only seem to get it in the MiG-21, especially at the merge/at low altitudes. Since the FPS losses began I've flown with MiG-15 and the FC3 aircraft as well, and they are flying just dandy. When looking at the tracks to see if something specific happens, I do keep a steady FPS though  Same with the radio problems, although I've found when the problem occurs: When you ask permission to taxi, you have to choose "F3: Abort take off" first. After that, the ATC untangles itself. I also experience some issues with the RPM and AoA needles going haywire during taxi-ing in fog, but i'm not going to report these until I can consistently reproduce the issue. It seems that for every fix, 10 other things gets broken atm. Let's just hope 2.5 will bring some necessary stability into the platform. @LN: Do you guys need a track for the external sounds that are on the fritz? I see that the issue is in the red on the bugtracker (bug 305)

It's probably meant to simulate future chinese fighters (hence the PL-12), and with lack on info on those they use the MiG-29 SMT as an example.

MiG-15/F-86 Campaign Announcement
Vincent90 replied to Apache600's topic in The Museum Relic Campaign
Apache600, any chance we'll see the dropbox files included in the *module*/Doc folder? -
So they haven't bothered making a campaign for this either. I think i'll keep my money safely out of BST's hands :)

I'm glad you're taking the time to make a serious and well argumented presentation for IndieGoGo. If I want to support a business plan, I want to know exactly where the money goes and if it is realistic. Most plans on crowdfund sites are empty shells that are doomed to fail (amazing that people backed the DCS WWII project). I'd rather see a $500,000 target project that is realistic, than a $50,000 target project that promises the world. Good luck guys!

I can't find it in 1.5.3. It should be under German Air Defence right?
