Just to be clear mate. Does the toolkit/openXR no longer require a DCS repair through skatezilla?
-
How much to Ship to China (heli collective). Could I have the estimate in British pounds though cause I'm actually British and will use a british debit card. Is paypal the only way to pay?
-
It does look nice. I especially like how it attaches to the chair, and it looks like it has a sturdy constitution though the buttons look a little cheap. How's the customer service/warranty? Is there a long waiting list? But 200 english pounds with delivery would be a good price. Though that's probably an old estimate by now. I will look into it... Uh oh paypal...

'Hack' just mean's its a mod or to put it another way you modify some files yourself to make the game behave/run differently. But I'm just explaining why I don't like to use it (or any other mods with the constantly updating/changing DCS) as over the years I've found it not worth the hassle. But I'm not saying everyone should follow me in that. I'm also on an index and have to say even having tried the alternative I am happy with perfomance. But the guide on this forum recommends a clean install/repair:
-
In MSFS it works perfectly but that is officially supported. With DCS it's just a hack and so like all mods (with DCS) without official support it can end up being just another load of trouble (especially as it requires a clean installation of DCS). I just feel like theres too many variables to contend with already without adding more and to be honest on a VIVE kit steam VR has advantages of its own.

Thanks guys! Will probably get one at some point!

I'm mulling over getting a collective for the choppers. I love flying helicopters in VR/DCS, not only because the experience is just plain fecking awesome (some of those night missions over water in VR in bad weather are on a whole other level of immersion in VR) but because helis are not as affected, performance wise, as prop planes, or jets, which require much more turning and jerky movements. The Appache is also just fecking incredible in VR so that may be influencing my sudden impulse! I never like to invert my throttle and I'm kinda thinking it would perhaps be worth the investment to actually get a helicopter setup, as after all, I love flying them more than planes in many ways (and I do have the sense that its only having specifically plane controls that makes me doubt this somehow) so why not? So how are the collectives in VR and out? Does if make a big difference immesion wise, or do you think I'll regret buying one? I'd probably go with something like this (see below) if I do pull the trigger, but I have to say my warthog throttle is showing it's age and I question if the money would not be better put to use elsewhere... https://cn.wwsimstore.com/view/goods-details.html?id=329

https://old.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/zr3sc0/i_think_i_have_found_whats_causing_fps_drop/ Anyone tried this ^ with 2.8. Apparently theres a fix for the performance issues that somone has stumbled upon. Seems to be some debate if it actually works though...
-
Yep that's what I've decided. I was driving myself mad with the tweaking! I went back to steam VR locked the FPS and to be honest I couldn't make out much of a difference and am getting nice performance now. Also don't need to worry about all those repairs and messing around whenever theres an update. DCS is just too much trouble for mods and I have limited time already!
-
Yeah I think he means HTC!
-
That's what I worry about. Once we get the extra performance boost will it be taken as a go to pile on more bells and whistles that will eventually get us back to where we are now cancelling out all of the performance gains?

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
Wolf8312 replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
Anyone help me out? I installed open XR and the toolkit app, and everything was working fine. Then I updated to the latest beta. Now whenever I place the Api file into the DCS main directory DCS won't work (unless I replace the original file) and I get an error message saying that the original api/vr file is missing. I then wen't back to the release version but am having the same problem now, and I can't get open XR to work with DCS anymore. Any ideas? Might be best to wait for official support/improvements, as I don't want to become a VR/DCS tinker obssessive again! error message- 'The application was unable to start correctly (oxc000007b0) Click ok to close the application'. EDIT never mind guys solved the problem. Just needed a 64 bit file! -
Yes with the beta I couldn't get the toolkit to load and with a new api file the game itself wouldn't start. Going back to release for now to see if I can get it working again. This is the trouble using these kind of unofficial hacks with software like DCS that is constantly being updated. So many things can go wrong and its hard to even know how to proceed when updating.

Those pedals do look great and obviously I wouldn't say no! In an ideal world everything I have would have FFB, the hotas, the chair, stick, pedals, even the floor! But I have to draw the line somewhere myself, so I'd go with the buttkicker/chair as a FFB priority before looking to the stick, pedals etc. But yeah you're right, if one can afford both that would obviously be way better and I wasn't knocking those pedals ('m interested)! The only question I'd have (esepcially with a ffb stick) though is how long I'd get out of it. FFB (BK too) has a bit of reputation...
-
Honestly, I think the best kind of FFB one can get is a buttkicker kind of device combined with Simshaker software. Once in the AC it does a pretty great job of simulating the feeling of flight, weapons, touchdowns, etc. Once you've tried it, it is very difficult to do without as the AC's feel lifeless! They do look like nice pedals, even without the FFB, but I tend to believe its best to have the FFB on the pilots chair rather than the stick, or pedals, throttle, etc.

What happened to VR Performance in the Persian Gulf?
Wolf8312 replied to dburne's topic in Virtual Reality
Ah well haven't been using them anyway so... -
Very few well established commentators on YT are all that trustworthy. I'm not sure I'd trust myself to remain objective either if someone was (maybe) sending me a headset like that for free! I don't even believe they do it on purpose most of the time, and I'm sure theres a good chance he fully believed the MS was great! But I'm sure as with the VIVE it will be worth it in the end if they can get it sorted quickly! I went for about two years with the original vive and it's inferior reprojection, being very jealous of occulus at the time (as well as suffering horrible momentary loading screens in DCS whenever things exploded)! Though I hadn't dropped two grand on *that* headset!

Is it best to avoid this update for now? -
What's the most comfortble/lightweight headset?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Well I also find the index uncomfortable so what we have in common with the index may well apply also to the G2. G2 is pretty reasonable price wise. Kinda loyal to vive though cause of the basestations (still rocking the OG BS with no problems) and the excellent tracking they provide. -

Yikes... -
You know with a good CPU and the 3060Ti combined with open XR I reckon you would get perfectly good performance. Plus there are supposed to be big improvements to DCS/CPU performance on the way. Another thing is don't go mad choosing a headset with super high res. The problem with super high res is that once you've seen it, it's hard not to have it! So don't let yourself see it!

Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Lol yeah that looks just the ticket! Will defo keep an eye on those! I wonder if less actually ends up being more price wise though! -
Back into flightsims/VR again as I've upgraded my rig to 3080Ti and an i5 13600k. I've also loaded up open composite (foveted rendering etc) and am finding VR flight simming smoother than ever before! It's great to be back (though my buttkicker is being repaired so I still feel incomplete for now)! My last rig (see specs) got updated into oblivion by both MSFS and DCS so I lost all desire to play flightsims (could never fly flat) as the performance was just impossible (stutter)! I'm currently using the index which is fine for myself resolution wise (not too taxing on performance, and still looks good enough for me) but I have to say I find the index like having a heavy brick on my face (and its not even summer)! What I would like for my next headset is one with a similar res but of lighter weight and greater comfort. Any suggestions in that department? Anything on the horizon that will make these heavy boxes we wear on our faces obsolete?

Nah its working fine now. Gotta say the game itself is greately improved WW2 side. Appreciate a lot of the new missions to play, and the sounds and damgage model make it so much more harrowing and atmospheric to fly now. I always believed that once it ironed out the wrinkles it would be the best WW2 flight sim on the market because at the end of the day no other game can compete with the fidelty of the DCS aircrafts. Its not even close to be honest. Haven't checked the campaigns yet though...

Sorry didn't check responses as I was bummed out for a while! Seems that the recent update has fixed the problem. Could still be a little better maybe but vastly better than it was which is a relief.
