This may be true, although I'm not sure it is, for pvp. But I've scored hits from 60-70nm with AIM-120s on AI fighter planes. I did actually pop a player from 50nm. He was flying high and probably not expecting a missile from that range. That's far beyond the range of the F16 and even the hornet's radar range. And of course being able to detect them from 120nm gives you an undeniable tactical advantage.

Strike Commander is the reason I'm into flight sims today and why the Viper is my favourite aircraft. So I appreciate you listing it as one of your sims I recognized your picture.
-
Of course it will. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a stowed position which would provide mechanical support to stabilize and protect the gyro mechanisms from stress. But I don't know. You are probably correct. It makes total sense to protect the lens from debris as you say.
-
Probably to protect the gyros and such from the landing impact forces. Like in the Dos Gringos song I'm a pilot: "And I'll Over-G the targeting pod with a smile on my face!"

Do you know that the current refueling rate is realistic? What if the guys at Sochi have some badass fuel pumps that can do double the rate of the old equipment they are fielding at Senaki?
-

But you can, like MaxSenna said in the second answer. You can set up an afterburner detent on your warthog throttle. Then you'll feel it when you push into AB.

Refueling takes so long in this plane. Could we have at least have faster refueling on the ground? 2x speed maybe?

I was being chased by an F16 today so I went flat out at sea level trying to escape. After a short while I got a "Fuel low" warning from betty. Strangely when I looked at the totalizer I had 17k lbs left. So I ignored the warning thinking that betty was screwing with me. But after a short while my left engine flamed out. Maybe she wasn't joking. But no. I still had 10k lbs left. However my left feed tank was empty. I did some testing and found that fuel consumption above 120k PPH(give or take) will eventually drain the feed tanks faster than the system can supply them. Is this how it is supposed to be? I guess there's nothing to do about it I've just not seen it on any other module before.

when I fly f.ex. the f16 the throttle range(mil power) is from zero to the AB detent. Anything above that is Afterburner. any precision flying is done in military. So I have the same range, for precision flying, in the f16 and the a-10(where I've put 100% throttle at the AB detent. It works fine for me in F16 and it works fine in the A-10. The push through zone is far less smooth than the rest of the travel, not a problem for AB since I usually just slam it to the wall when doing anything that requires AB, but if I was to do AAR in the a10 and the resting spot was around the AB-pushthrough spot that would make it very difficult. Same with formation flying of course. I'm willing to lose 28% of the range because it doesn't bother me at all and I'm too lazy to keep turning around the plastic thing.
-
You'll have the same (mil power)range as any other module with afterburner. More than enough for me at least. I do pretty well with AAR. I do the same for helicopters. I know it can be removed. I've filed mine down so it's a push-through instead of a lift-over.

F-15E Radar Modes HOTAS Diagram & Azimuth vs Elevation Plots
Tenkom replied to CourageousPotato's topic in F-15E
There is one, sometimes, very useful mode you haven't mentioned. If you are in TWS and have two targets locked but you see that they will soon separate too far. If you long TDC depress on the non-starred target it will enter a sort of dual STT mode where it will skip back and forth between the two targets and keep lock even if they go far apart. You lose all other tracks though. -
Just tune the throttle axis in DCS so that 100% throttle in the A10 is right at the AB point on the throttle. This way you have smooth throttle all the way with no fake AB push-through zone which makes no sense in the A10.

Nice one. Thanks! -

This is not a bug or a question. It's a wish. -
cannot repoduce and missing track file Cumbersome Ground Radar Behavior
Tenkom replied to RPY Variable's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
As a workaround you can just double(triple?) press the expand button after you have changed the range to get back to DBS2. The cursor doesn't move even if you can't see it because it is outside 10NM. -
Extrange flight behaviour , is this normal?
Tenkom replied to firefox121's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you are used the hornet or viper, like me, it may be habit to jerk the stick in such situation. If you do you will bend the wings before the alarms have a chance to kick in. Of course we simply have to learn not to do this in this plane. There are a few others gotcha's in this plane like diving in full AB can easily cause overspeed and rip a wing or two of the airplane. I like this kind of thing personally and it feels more realistic. Something bad should happen when doing stupid things in a jet. -
When I fly the F15 I miss the avionics, open cockpit, acceleration, maneuverability of the viper. When I fly the viper I miss the power(especially when carrying a decent load), top speed and the fuel to hang around at top speed for a while, RADAR. I can't choose tbh.

No one has expressed any surprise that it is worse. Some seem surprised at HOW much worse it is. Which I can understand since the F15C is one of the best dogfighters in the game and the mudhen is one of the worst(among it's peers). But I am not saying that this is unrealistic or that it should be changed. I've heard pilots say it is not good at dogfighting and I have faith that Razbam know what they are about.
-
who are you talking about?
-
I have almost zero experience with fighting human opponents. But I've done a lot of dogfights against AI and the Viper is the best except maybe the F15C. Hornet is good also but it's easy to end up slow inside the enemy turn circle while in the viper I just do lag pursuit and it just reels them in.
