Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
Top Jockey replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Regarding that configuration, I have no idea if it's working as IRL or not. But (presently in DCS) in a completely clean F-14A with low internal fuel it's easy to achieve 2.3 + Mach at 35.000 ft altitude. -
Not too impressed with the A model and new sounds....
Top Jockey replied to Maxter737's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Just by mere curiosity: " Great work, the Tomcat looks amazing, it looks great "... but then you are " not too impressed " ? (Naturally there are stuff to be solved down the line, but presently it doesn't look that bad to me.) There's a feedback thread already: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/licensed-third-party-projects/heatblur-simulations/dcs-f-14a-b/7143821-patch-nov-18th-f-14a-release-feedback-thread -
Just so there's no doubt about this: Which variant, -A or -B ?

Actually, noticed it also yesterday and tuned down my gamma slider to 1.7. -
The Legit Discussion for the D Model Tomcat
Top Jockey replied to HairyPOOnuggets's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I understand you. Let me just say: it was totally well worth the money. As my attentions are focused on dcs nowadays I do not have fsx installed at the moment, but if had, the KNKX NAS Miramar / TOPGUN School scenario would certainly be installed also. For those who appreciate the F-14 and TOPGUN icons stuff, it was outstanding: - featured circa 1985 or 86; - several squadron insignias inside and outside the repair hangars; - fightertown; tomcat alley; etc, logos at the respective buildings; - control tower realistic with the time it featured; - briefing class chairs and desk at the famous Hangar N.2; - there's even Maverick in is motorcycle near one of the runways ! -
DCS: F-14 Development Update - Enter the -A!
Top Jockey replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Here: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/licensed-third-party-projects/heatblur-simulations/dcs-f-14a-b/bugs-and-problems-bf/7143566-thump-bang-failures-tf-30s-catching-fire-at-1-2m?p=7143892#post7143892 (Although I've commented at that section, I don't know if its a bug or normal functioning). However was able to attain Mach 2.34 already, provided that one doesn't engage the afterburners at very slow speeds when on high altitude. -
After you enter any mission and tweak with the controls for a few minutes, a new F-14A controls folder is created (config\input\F-14A). Besides, you don't have to insert again all of them one by one. You can load the F-14B controls all at once (joystick and throttle) in their respective F-14A columns and then save them as F-14A ones...

Thump-Bang Failures? TF-30s catching fire at ~1.2M
Top Jockey replied to Quid's topic in Bugs and Problems
Same here. edit Possibly one of the reasons to light the engines on fire: Trying to engage the afterburners at: - at high altitudes (+ 30.000ft) when at very slow speeds (~200 kts). At very slow speeds and high altitudes, the TIT gauge shows the temperatures effectively going up to the danger marks, and when engaging the burners the engines will bang, shut-off and light on fire. -
The objective was not to revive a 'dinossaur' thread... but I see no point in opening tons of similar threads left and right either, so: How can I edit my signature ? (Can't find the option.)

Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
Top Jockey replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hello, Well, regarding the F-14A Tomcat - thank you @IronMike, the team and everyone who contributed to its development ! But how can I say this: I've ruined its engines already... https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/licensed-third-party-projects/heatblur-simulations/dcs-f-14a-b/7126047-dcs-f-14-development-update-enter-the-a?p=7143737#post7143737 Jokes aside, it looks outstanding. The distinctive TF-30 exhaust nozzles do look marvelous, and so far details like the cockpit STALL lights and audio warning do add to the immersion feeling. Thank you for your effort ! -
DCS: F-14 Development Update - Enter the -A!

I don't know if it was on or off... and didn't ever used it in the Tomcat. (Neither do I know how to activate or de-activate it.) -
DCS: F-14 Development Update - Enter the -A!
Top Jockey replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I ruined the engines... what the 'heck'... Was just trying to test maximum speed of 2.34 mach, the STALL lights went on, and the engines went on fire ! Maybe the US Navy will kick me out, but I've got no money to pay for their repairment. -
The saying goes something like: " First impressions are the strongest " ... and the F-14A was the first. And so, it was the one which engraved the Tomcat concept in peoples minds. When people hear the words " F-14 " or " Tomcat ", the majority of them will probably visualize the TF-30's exhaust nozzles instead of the F110's ones... It was pioneer in several technological concepts / capabilities, and when it appeared there was nothing like it anywhere else in the world. The -A was also the version which was produced in the biggest numbers, gaining more visibility, and again it was the first... so it became 'the reference'. Because of its truely uniqueness - it became a cult icon in military aviation. For many people, the -B might be the 'improved'; but the -A will always be the 'classic'... and nothing beats The Real McCoy.

That went... catastrophic. (Two years ago my Asus B85M-G mobo decided to shut up all of the sudden, never to come up again and I couldn't see anything burnt or damaged.) I know waiting gets boring as hell, but you'll get the stuff. Patience and good luck with the upcoming hardware.

DD_Fenrir already answered, relating to the developers choice reasons. But there's also another (subjective) angle: each one's own personal preference. That said and relating the bold, more informative and modern HUDs already exist several of them in other fighters like the Eagle, Falcon, Hornet, etc. So for me, a D model modern HUD would make it feel just like kind of the "same thing" again, and probably I wouldn't feel so much inclined to buy it. (And so I'm thankful to Heatblur, that they've featured the A and B versions.) As the "archaic", old-school HUD symbology in the A and B models, are in my opinion a big part of the Tomcat's own charisma. ... otherwise like I said, (for me) modern symbols and such would feel prety much the same like anyother teen series, when looking at the HUD.

The Legit Discussion for the D Model Tomcat
Top Jockey replied to HairyPOOnuggets's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I see, thank you for the insight. I'm curious about the AIM-9 versions in the -A, and the respective HUD's symbology employment (or lack of it)... because part of it only appeared circa 1985. -

Hello, Seems I've missed something: Two different versions of USN F-14A ? I thought we were going to get just one -A version of the USN. From what operating years respectively ? -
Everytime I read this kind of stuff I get disappointed. I mean; with the kind of money Thrustmaster asks for their products, their durability should be better. That said, all the sticks and throttles I've had are from them, as the "next above cathegory" is even more expensive. Good luck solving the issue with the throttle.

Target Compiler Slow when coming out of Windows sleep modus
Top Jockey replied to Lange_666's topic in Thrustmaster
That's one of the motives I'm not yet much inclined to change to Win10. Obviously I keep concerned about eventual security issues with my Win7... but I don't stand that microsoft decides totally at their on will, to change stuff on my PC without my consent. -
Looks promising. For much I praise the B version and its engines, to me the TF-30's exhaust nozzles of the F-14A always were "The real McCoy". The F110 engine's nozzles do seem a little bit 'modern' for my taste, in the F-14's general airframe design.

The Legit Discussion for the D Model Tomcat
Top Jockey replied to HairyPOOnuggets's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Well... I wouldn't be so harsh on it. Afterall it was the best representation I've known of the Tomcat (graphics and feature wise), obviously before Heatblur's masterpiece finally appeared. (At the time I even bought NAS Miramar - TOPGUN scenario for it.) Although it was never intended to be part of a combat simulator genre and also having several avionics features missing, its graphics were very good already, and they tried to give the playability some immersion feeling... keeping in mind the genre of sim it was part of. For me, the biggest thrills were intercepting the Flankers, and overflying lower Manhattan skyscrapers in bad wether... on my F-14. -

I'm not understanding: You mean the F-14X (and not P3D), but they will provide some version at the least, or you're saying that there's no F-14X anymore ? (Not that I'm interested on it nowadays, and I don't have it installed for ages... but if I bought it, must be available permanently.)
