  1. Thanks guys. I always rode the silk to the ground and watched my plane crash before re-entering the fray. I was worrying for nothing. My original interpretation of "bail" was correct then. Thanks.
  2. I tried out Multiplayer for the first time the other day and later on wondered about the scoring. At what point does one get the credit for the kill? Is it shared? Does the shooting player get credit if the shot at Pilot bails out/ejects? I believe I came across a rule "no bailing out" or something somewhere. A rule I may have broken (my apologies for being new) a couple of times. Personally, I don't look at stats and could care less but regarding respect for those that do, what exactly constitutes a kill and when and how does it get awarded? I originally thought of it as not leaving the game. "bailing" like that is very common in other multiplayer so as not to register a loss. I did kind of enjoy getting shot down by the same 109 over and over and over and over and over...sort of. Hey, I almost hit a couple bad guys. I have to fly past them to see if they are good or bad too. I'm so green. To me, if I bail, you've got a kill. Is that not how kills are counted? I won't bail again until I get a clear answer. Every time I get hit, I'll just ride 'er down. What are all the factors that can constitute a kill for scoring purposes as they exists in the Sim today please?
  3. The blow by blow of who is joining, leaving, crashing, ejecting and all the other useless garbage should be in a totally separate section or area of the screen with an off button. Chat should be for chat.
  4. I am on my second TM Wartog stick. I left it as long as I could stand it and then took it apart and of course pinched the wire. Regardless, those plastic pins were extremely tight. The quality of the second stick in the switches department is right nasty and so I'll switch the top with my old one eventually. It's so nice with the extension, I'd probably buy a third. If someone made a gimble with the wire and sensor installed that actually worked, it would be awesome. Yes quality control is slipping which is confirmed in may case anyway although sticking issues are not noticeable on this new one as of yet. It's actually a beautiful thing. I just wish I could figure out how to get a target fcf script to work in dcs.
  5. "player" refers to the skill level. Only after you place your plane on the map do you get the option to set as "player" in skill level. Only then will it be flyable by yourself. The mission editor keeps me busy for hours but I have a lot to learn yet. The manual has a fairly good write up on it although there seems to be more than is in there. The information is scattered here and there in these forums. YouTube as well is your friend with some good how to videos.
  6. thanks. whew. was going bonkers
  7. Any ideas? It showed combined arms and wwII assets in my dlc modulkes, i did combined arms but the assets pack returns this every way: Is it because I have the beta and not the other 1.5. DO I need 3 installs?
  8. I'll give it a go soon. It'll give you guys something to shoot at anyway. As soon as I get the training wheels off my wing tips that is. There is no hope for me in combat but I do Love the air.
  9. I originally had bolted an extension to the wall stand offs but in the end I found that the crosswinds loved a more solid mount as well as a very solid mount for the seat of the pedal operator. An old door with pedals and an amazingly solid, comfortable, fully adjustable, $25 at an auto wreckers, seat. It is definitely my favourite seat in the house. Crosswinds. Flawless for a year and counting.
  10. Crosswinds are heavenly, The only problem with Crosswinds is they are way nicer than any pedals you'd find in most planes. ;) The spring rate although adjustable is pretty strong and so a solid seat setup and a mount for the pedals is best for absolute accuracy heaven. I know it's wrong but I don't even look at rudder trim before taking off usually anymore. Milan is a great guy and as an added bonus he also sells a 7.5 cm extension for the TM hotas wartog joystick. While you're there. ;) I calibrated my Crosswinds when I got them a year ago. I use them 2-4 hrs or more a day. They have remained flawless. No regrets.
  11. Welcome to DCS and welcome to retirement. You are about to enjoy, as do I.
  12. It IS a puzzle sometimes. I figure it must be cumulative as is should be. Indeed it is wise to cool things down after a fight but one must always remember, simply cooling it back off does not repair any damage caused. In real life anyway. Consider if the abuse broke a piston ring. It's no big deal for a while but it begins to pound the snot out of the piston and eventually a chunk breaks off that and gets jammed between the piston and the head. *screeeech* seized only in the fact that it stopped and will no longer turn. There are two kids of seized, Parts welding themselves together from lack of lubrication or too much heat or from broken parts bouncing around. You should see what dirt in a Supercharger or Turbo can do. I have no problem using all the fuel up anyway but I probably baby it a bit. I mostly follow the P-51 Flight Manual's recommendations. Consider the load on the engine as well. There is not near the load going downhill or even level flight and so one should be able to throttle up quicker with less penalty. Low RPM, Low speed, High Throttle under LOAD is instant *screech*. It is the LOAD that makes the piston want to go sideways through the cylinder wall instead of down on the power stroke. The factors are many. I too shake my head at times.
  13. It looks ok looking at the ground or water or open sky. The definition is hidden in the light of the Horizon in Level flight for me. Personally, I like it. It's not long before bullets enter mine anyway.
  14. I have crossed the channel and returned easily. The AI may not have our keen sense of proper engine management. ;)
  15. Spitfire has a sun shield.
  16. Thanks for the quick fix Voodooman. It got me through for sure. The new model is fine too. Those smudges were not fun. Your fix was much appreciated here.
  17. There are good posts on this elsewhere but I will add my experience as a former engine builder/racer. The explosion in the cylinder wants to push the piston down. The load on the crankshaft (prop, weight of the plane, resistance), tries to resist the piston going down. This puts severe pressure on the thrust side of the Piston and the cylinder wall. The lower RPMs used with high thrust/throttle/boost is called lugging. Pistons an cylinder walls get gouged, scrubbed, metal embedded and finally fail. Non of that has all that much to do with temperature. If the Sim is modeled realistically, it takes these factors into account and causes severe wear and failure. One may very well not see any clear indication on any guage. Low RPM and high boost will cost you too. Those old beasts were probably using a 50 or 60 weight oil (very thick). That is why you have the option of diluting it. High oil pressure can be just as scary an indicator as low oil pressure. The P-51 Manual is a must read. I open and close rads and coolers regularly. I once attended tractor pulls regularly and back in the day a lot of them used Merlins since they were a dime a dozen for a while. Sitting in the stands when the increasing load of the sled (simulated prop hanging) gets to be so much that the tractor is barely moving and the RPMs are coming down and the machine is straining super hard right in front of you, you just cringe hoping the flying parts don't hit you. At that point, you don't need any math, physics, theory, or rumours. You KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that adding Boost without RPM is insanity. No need for guages there. That shudder near stall when you're givin' 'er? That's piston metal balling up on your cylinder wall (or potentially and eventually). It WILL stop and break a connecting rod very suddenly a while later on. That's just your engine saying "You shouldn't have added Boost to RPM. AT least in proper theory, that is the way it should work. Lugging (low rpm high boost) also creates heat and part killing detonation. How hard would you have to hit an engine block with a hammer to hear it in the cockpit? If you hear detonation? Bad.
  18. I am ok with someone exaggerating danger. I would have said 140,000 feet. ;)
  19. I think the difference is in the equipment really. Those older pilots got their first taste of the air in those times. I started DCS a year or two ago in a P51. I got good enough that I just hopped in and off I went thinking nothing of it. Then, I found jets. I flogged an F-15 for a long time and got it all down. It was so easy to fly, it was ridiculous. Then a year off flying in zero gravity and no atmosphere and DCS came out with a Spitfire. So here I am after a couple weeks setting up my controls on the P51 and the Spitfire and my take offs and landings are just on the wrong side of the verge still. The equipment spoils you. Jets have no twitchiness and stuff and so hopping from jets to tail dragging piston pounders is more of a shock than the other way around. People are people. Being born in the 50s when a 15" black and white tv was a special treat, these old flics are the best. That bouncy landing at 16:20 or so sure looks like mine ..on a good day. I Love the piston pounders. When you dedicate one PC for DCS only, I fear, there is no turning back. I tend to almost run from these videos into my sim pit. ;) I bow in the presence of everyone who has ever had control of plane. It has to be life changing.
  20. I recently installed a 7.5 cm extension to my TM Wartog Hotas. I seems to reduce the effort to roughly half and doubles the ease of aiming. It made a huge difference for me. I am talking baby finger effort and a nice gentle return to centre. http://mfg.simundza.com/blog/new-product-mfg-warthog-extensions/ I have seen them on e-bay in various lengths as well but can't seem to find them today. I got mine (and my pedals) from the link above. 7.5 cm is perfect for me anyway. I think any more would be overkill in some cases and could be hard on the internals. This guy below has extensions in all sizes and different return spring weights. He used to sell on e-bay and had 100% satisfaction when he did. https://warthog-extensions-by-sahaj.com/ I Love my TM hotas wartog. Tweaked to taste.
  21. +1 for the gunners. There's not much sense in me asking questions. It's the 14th.
  22. As we can see the new *stick* is NOT actually in use. The kid is using the stock hotas wartog handle. (hype shrink factor much?). My second hotas wartog arrived today. Gimble issues are real if you actually use the thing. If they can't build a gimble, they should make all parts readily available. I like my hotas wartog. Especially with a 7.5 cm extension. Perfect. And, I'd buy a third and likely will. Cheap piece of crap gimble garbage that I love so well. The target software is starting to prove itself nicely as well. Hey, I wore out 3 logitech 3d pros too. ha ha. The very beginning shows the stick the kid is using. We're dumb but..
  23. It's right there but not in use.
  24. You can assign some of that in the Axis section of the controls setup. It appears my zoom is assigned to the mouse for now. I may have to rectify that. I don't have the same controller and mine is automatically attached to my trackir. I highly recommend one but you could use the axis section to assign absolute camera views to something else. Camera zoom view in the axis commands section is the one you want. Pic attached:
