  1. Thanks!. That worked well. Nothing else did. I pulled a few more hairs out over that one. sheesh.
  2. Spitfire Hotas Wartog Template I made these quick and easy templates to get me going with a Hotas Wartog and a Spitfire. I DO have pedals and if not this would be lacking. I DO have Trackir as well and so of course people will make their own personal choices. It works pretty well for a starting point and they fit in the kneeboard quite nicely. There are no scripts, addins, apps or modifiers required. I am simply sharing a starting point since I could find nothing on the Spitfire in that respect. I'll keep my lua files out of it. It's quite comprehensive for the Spit. Hotas Wartog Key chart and kneeboard install.txt
  3. Ha ha. I just ordered my 7.5 cm extension from him as well. Minutes ago.
  4. Thank you so much. That has taken light years off my learning curve.
  5. My first attempt was YIKES. It has been a week now and It's forever Love. The old retired Truck and Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic in me just Loves the vintage iron. I look at the guages and panels and moving parts and I have repaired similar on other machines and it just feels like home. The fact that understanding the engine, supercharger, cooling systems, governors and all that stuff coupled with the fact that you MUST actually manage those systems constantly is amazing. I can't imagine a morning when I don't put on my Spitfire. There is some life saving advice in this thread. Thanks folks.
  6. That was amazing and an eye opener. Thanks for the post.
  7. I cut a cone out of a piece of black leather and held it to the base with zip ties. It's a beautiful solution.
  8. I got mine a week or two ago. Heavenly. Thank you Milan!
  9. I would definitely recommend installing target. There are so many ways to set the wartog bindings that it gets scary. For a good basic starting point I would and am running Gizzy's script. There is a lot of reading and a bit of a learning curve to get to the point of understanding what is going on. Simply run the script by browsing to wherever you put it using the target GUI. Leave it running and enter the sim and set your controls. I run a far more complicated target script for another sim/game. Target is good stuff. USB 3.0 is backward compatible. Mine are on usb 3 via usb 2 extension cables. Always run the script when playing.
  10. Thanks for those. Much appreciated.
  11. Other than electronic or wiring problems, often it is the user that "bricks" the Warthog. "brick" can mean, "I changed something and now it doesn't work". Something as simple as changing the usb port it is plugged into can cause problems especially with Windows 10. Uninstalling and reinstalling not only the TM drivers but the Target software can solve a lot of those kinds of problems. I would say, remove those and re-install as if it was new before attempting to update the firmware or using the bootloader method unless of course you can confirm you have an out of date firmware. Follow TM's instructions on these procedures to the letter if required. TM states very clearly not to attempt a firmware upgrade while attached to a hub. I am not saying that is anyone's problem but simply some things to consider. It took me a while to get mine working again when I switched from a hub to onboard usb ports using Windows 10. I tried updating the firmware using a hub. All hubs are not created equal either. A hub with proper win10 drivers and an actual website with a support section is a far better route than using a non-supported hub. Uninstalling both Target and the TM drivers and restarting from scratch fixed everything for myself in that regard. Hubs work fine for some right up until something changes. Pick your usb ports and stick with them. Win10 is particular. There are the odd non win10 usb devices that don't follow the win10 rules. They can definitely cause problems stealing and re-ordering ports. They don't know or follow the rules. Food for thought. I would buy another Wartog in a heartbeat.
  12. Post 8 of the thread in this link is chock full of HDMI 2.0b info. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/168-hdmi-q-one-connector-world/2454994-hdmi-2-0b.html?styleid=129
  13. Thanks for that great set of instructions. PDF: Highlight everything, copy, open word or some such thing. Paste. save as: PDF. Done. I could post a PDF copy if it's ok with Sryan. I am unsure of the rules here.
  14. I check capture desktop and alt f9 to record. ShadowPlay loads at system startup and a quick Alt f9 toggles it to record until I hit it again to stop it. It has worked flawlessly for a very long time for near anything whether full screen or windowed..
  15. I read yesterday that they are declassifying a lot of '51 documents. Soon enough we'll know if realism fits. I would vote no.
  16. I like it the way it is mostly. It's barely enough time for a washroom break, laundry switchover and another armload or two of firewood before the second wave gets close to my base. I never respawn. If I wreck my plane, my virtual CO makes me clean the latrine.
  17. Win 10 pro 64 for a year and a half now (preview first on 4 different machines). It was good to go in near everything I needed to do about a year ago except for proper sound drivers for my soundblaster ZX card which took a bit longer. I am getting swamped with last minute upgrade requests now. Win 10 convinced me to stop dual booting with Linux on my main machine. Windows phone and 2 win 10 machines in use here and 2 Linux Mint machines still. I'll be dropping down to one Linux machine as soon as possible. I found win 7 the most frustrating thing I ever saw. Win 8 was a huge improvement once the desktop was setup like xp/vista IMO. Win 10 rocks once one gets it tweaked and privacy settings are altered to something acceptable.
  18. I have been building or updating or repairing my own machines and machines for others since the very early 90s. The performance increases of newly released hardware are generally minimal really. The hype always outways the actual results by a factor of ten. I am talking about the advertising and not the actual numbers. There is an aweful lot of money spent on bragging rights by people who just must have the latest and greatest thing. More often than not proper tweaking of the whole system can eclipse the performance increases for typical users purchases if they don't look at the whole picture. I realize you folks know what you're doing and you have taught me tons to my surprise. When I build my own machines or upgrade internals, I generally go for second best which is often half the price of the latest greatest. This equates to a savings of 50% as compared to advertised performance increases of 20%. Patience is a virtue as prices usually go down by 50% a year from the release. That is where the price point usually makes more sense to me (and software begins to catch up). My EVGA GTX 980 4 gig doesn't even hickup and fps even in DCS is fantastic. Mind you, I sifted through some tweaking DCS performance thread here yesterday with great advice from some of you and especially a senior ed. My fps in back to back tests actually doubled. We are talking flashing over 200 with an average of 120-150 in the cockpit and 70-90 in follow view. edit> it would dip down to 20 at times before I used your suggestions < Do not sync every frame was the best advice yet. I buy speed when I actually need it for something and not before but then again, I am not rich. The 1080 series will evolve into something very good when software requires it but when that happens what will the latest and greatest card actually be? I doubt it will be this one. The price point is inviting though. No matter what card I use, it will not likely improve my skill level which is not optimal at all. ;)
  19. I would prefer to just have the lens (tethered to hdmi or something). I am leery about the processing and video power of the current hololens. I cannot find any specs on the cpu memory or graphics capability. I think the desktop still has more power but it IS the way of the future. I'll be watching for hololens 2,3,4,5 and keep hoping for just a lens. Someone mentioned a projector on a curved screen. That seems like a sound idea.
  20. Some monitors like my Benq have 3 presets one can use activated by simple 1,2 and 3 buttons. That's all I can think of but it would do what you want exactly. Nvidia supports some games for setting presets through but dcs is not listed as of yet as a game that is supported by that function. Nvidia Geforce experience does that and for supported games allows you to adjust settings for each supported game. It can also give optimal settings for your card which at times can be a bit too high for settings depending on the machine.
  21. Yesterday I while looking at motorcycle helmut mounted HUD like BMW's new entry (bad idea opn a bike btw), I thought to myself, if they can do that cost effectively why not something that displays just the HUD for DCS. I would prefer 3 monitors or a large curved one for DCS over the rift or similar products. Think just the HUD in a Lens like is on the Holo lens with a track IR. Keep in mind I know relatively nothing about the real $400,000 units for some fighters. I am simply opening this up for discussion and for developers of the software and hardware to consider and welcome the input of this great group to educate me on the merits of the idea. I am thinking of something like this simply tethered to an HDMI cable or other cables in use as video cables today. http://www.gizmag.com/skylens-hud-elbit/31945/ Could dcs easily be patched to separate or twin just the hud to another monitor (like that system)? Perhaps a trackir with a lens system like that sounds like a dream come true for flight sims? Considering the Holo lens includes a cpu/memory/operating system and batteries, all of which would not be required for this use, I can see it easily being a well below $1000 investment. Resolution would not have to be earth shattering for just the HUD so the cost shouldn't be crazy. Does the idea have merit? From that manufacturer shown above: https://www.elbitsystems.com/elbitmain/area-in2.asp?parent=2&num=24&num2=24 Please discuss. Developers and hardware manufacturers (I know you're watching) take note.
  22. I agree wholeheartedly. I was admin on 3 different BF4 servers. A lot of players don't realize that the people running the servers pay for the server space and often teamspeak servers as well as clan webpage space. I used to compare it to a pool table. The owner has the right to do whatever they want. Anyone against the server policies can simply hit the x. Or we could hit it for them. I give a big thumbsup for more tools to admin and set up the "pool table" the way the owners want. If one doesn't like it, start your own and do it your way. Personally, I would definitely find the tools very useful. Bravo. I prefer a level playing field software-wise. Your hardware setup is up to you. The trend however is to build things into the hardware as well such as a Razor 7 mouse that can immeditaely target to center mass in some games. That kind of thing is ruining things and empties servers. Cheating or not, our rules generally frowned against ANYTHING that emptied the server and was subject to an immediate non reversible ban. It's your pool table. Run it however you want.
  23. I can't get a respose from the ATC at Nellis or Mcarran today after the latest update. Excerpt out of log attached as zip. <<00036.729 WARNING FLIGHT: McCarran International Airport has no ATC communicator! 00036.729 WARNING LOG: 2 duplicate message(s) skipped. 00036.729 WARNING FLIGHT: Nellis AFB has no ATC communicator! 00052.229 WARNING LOG: 2 duplicate message(s) skipped. 00052.229 ERROR SOUND: can't load wave: "sounds\speech\sound\eng\common\player\callsign\first" 00113.179 ERROR SOUND: can't load wave: "sounds\speech\sound\eng\common\atc\callsign\first" < I have tried easy comms and not. Creech seems ok. I have tried canned mission free flight with F15 at Nellis. some of my missions from Nellis with F15. All worked not bad before or at least much better. I tried the repair. yes I run as admin. No AV scanner on or off. No change. It's all F15 Nevada in this version for me. 1.53 works fine. this new 2.xx does not work well for comms with the F15 alpha. Understood it's an alpha but we seem to have lost some ground here. Thanks for your consideration. Any ideas? Sound card is creative soundblaster zx. video is evga gtx 980. no atc logs.zip
  24. F15 NTTR easy practice I took one of the fine Nellis templates from here and added some things to allow F15 pilot and practice aim 120 and TWS. Lots of targets with few fighting back other than trying to bomb Nellis. It's not perfect but it's a hoot. Eliminate all incoming. I had to re-arm and refuel twice my last time out. There are two waves of enemy. Thanks for the templates. Nevada Full Danger close.miz
