i found this funny as hell though like who could have guessed always good to see our dear journos working their blessed butts off searching for those scary sound bites
-
its olgerd, you might remember he was quite active answering questions in the fa-18 threads last year
-
detection varies with aspect, you are trying to look for cold targets at 80nm...
-
what are you even flying this airplane for if you cut out every distinctive aspect just because its an inconvenience?
-
depends on your relationship right? i talk with my pilot through the entire engagement so we both can suss out each others confidence levels and it becomes trivial to figure out who to defer to as the fight develops. just announce your actions for clarity.

how is 109k not a "fair" matchup but suddenly 109f is "okay" in your books? just because it happened in history? you seem to forget that history is rife with unfair matchups. that doesn't mean an unfair matchup cant be won if you think you are nothing but a target for a 109k then you will be nothing but a target for a 109f but if you know how to leverage your strengths you can fight against the 109k just the same winning starts in your mind

it does take things away from others because you start speaking a different language like i have a friend who just relies on autothrottle and acls to trap and when im discussing throttle management flying case 1 he's talking crap borne out of his lazy, bad habits. so no i dont support the avoidance of learning. when you avoid the learning process you do a disservice to both yourself and the entire sim community do it right or don't do it at all

open communications menu -> ground crew -> rearm and refuel you can set up a dedicated bind to bring it up as well

jesus christ how many duplicate threads do you have to make literally throwing a manchild tantrum because its not fixed now now now
-
"its earlier so it must be easier" lmao imagine being this conditioned by videogame logic

nah just learn how to pull the stick in a controlled manner its your own limb, it's your own responsibility besides if you're relying on blacking out you're probably not conducting very good bfm choreography

Experienced BF-109 pilots - help needed - right roll level flight
probad replied to Mud's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
i was describing an engagement to my friend earlier today not 5 minutes after it happened, according to my recollections then, i said with confidence my shots missed behind the target by roughly 20-30ft then i checked my shadowplay footage and saw my shots missed 50ft or so ahead memories can lie very easily -
Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????

all this thread boils down to are the lamentations of those who learned bad habits -
if you have phoenixes, you better not get into a knifefight if you get into a knifefight, you better not have any phoenixes even palletized drag index is worse than externals no idea what kind of capability you think the phoenix offers in close, but if you are greedy and think "oh maybe i will shoot someone 60 miles away after this dogfight" you are setting yourself up to fail greed will get you killed every time

F18 acm and gun fight proper energy management
probad replied to nwagtmustang's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
praying you're not taking 3 bags into a knifefight you should upload a track if you really want an accurate diagnosis -
listening to jester it's an ai, it's not going to be good at predicting where your targets going to be for you when you hear the words

how does one number (killcount) make more a measure of a man than another number (grades)? dick bong got lucky and got to abuse stupid (by his own admission) jousts against flimsy japanese aircraft. would he have been a great ace had he wound up in the eto??? he ended up getting himself killed because he just couldnt follow procedure -- death gave him a second chance and he blew it. did his killcount mean anything when his p-80 fell out of the sky?

hats off to a man who stands firm upon his principles

eh? i'm not seeing any blue lines, at 1:42 they're showing some blue afterburners. if they used dcs they must have done a hell of a lot of work to make it look like that so im banking on 'no'

welcome to fly by wire, where you're only voting for rudder command and the computer decides when and how much to give you. you're not going to have much of any rudder authority in flight regimes where other inputs are better (ex. bank and pull vs rudder during level flight) try dropping your airspeed into the dumpster and then commanding rudder at higher alpha. you'll find the rudder suddenly comes alive.

What you do that alerts another plane to your presence...
probad replied to fitness88's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
i figure you might have been confusing l/tws track (vs stt) with actually being silent and dark. when you use surveillance modes like tws(not yet implemented) and ltws you are nevertheless emitting and will show up on rwr, it's just that receiving rwrs won't know whether you locked (and in the case of tws, launched), because the radar stays using search emissions the whole time. -
the f-5's greatest strength is its very small spot size, so you will find yourself having better luck against people than the ai in the wvr arena. work on setting up engagements such that you can avoid the bvr fight and you'll be in a good spot. the dogfight is the leastmost of methods for killing people, don't overemphasize it. put your effort into thinking about how to avoid it.

it's just basic ifr. even civilians can get certified in it. there's a hood in the l-39 to ensure the trainee uses only the instruments. the all-weather interceptor is a pedigree running back to the night fighters of ww2, you bet your ass they flew on nothing but the instruments the whole time. interception in general was a heads-down affair, aircraft like the f-106 have atrocious views out the windscreen. instrument flying was requisite because flying by the numbers is how you nail the most efficient intercept geometry. the f-14's console is laid out pretty logically for heads down flying with such dominating vdi and hsi displays. details like the scrolling poop squares on the vdi which help against disorientation scream for it.
