Also remember that you're at 270 *indicated* you're actually flying faster than that by groundspeed or TAS. I liken high altitude combat to someone drunk trying to find something in a dark room. You have to do gentle movements; dogfighting almost seems to happen in slow motion... As bad as the p51 seems the opposition planes are most likely suffering more. It may be easy for them to attack a b17 but they'll have real trouble fighting you. Of course the AI is a computer and allegedly cheats so..

As it is now when the supercharger kicks in it makes the engine sound a lot louder. Which is ok but it can make the audio sound a bit off, especially if you go down then up a few times. The non s/c engine sounds are almost too quiet? I never flew a P51 for real so Idk. Does anyone know a good place that explains p51 engine behavior in good detail? Chucks guide doesn't seem to cover this exactly. You very much can't get maximum manifold pressure in every situation up high Also is automatic supercharger generally the way to go?

Search for Long Sortie Missions
sublime replied to DCS.Fighter.Masi's topic in User Created Missions General
Masi - F14 missions. The night hunter hvaa aerial target for Persian gulf is a long long mission Many of the Op Reforger campaign missions are long and require air to air refuelling as a matter of course. I can check later if you'd like. Interestingly I have a good grasp of which missions fill your requirements because I avoid those I just can't get refuelling in the F14 -
Hi P80; Miguel.. So I'm to understand that DCE doesn't work in 2.7? I was going to try to fiddle around and see if I could get it to work (the installer didn't work out for me) but of course if only the f18 is working for 2.7 I need to wait. Glad you guys are well

Thanks all. I just like starting conversations about planes -
Does anyone fly IL2 as well? Question on thoughts of p47 handling
sublime replied to sublime's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I wasn't trying to be snarky man it just seemed like a 'well now they're definitely gonna because they got called on it' moment . I apprece it but nothing would surprise me here anymore. I was banned for awhile/ couple years when a forum member named P***ad basically flamed me, insulted me, and I responded. He ran right to the mods and I got banned (for a shockingly long time - to be fair I didn't bother coming back for awhile as I was annoyed) Yes I've thought of waiting for the trials. I did like a couple other planes last trial in January. I'm already pumped for the mi24 as well. I also am just genuinely curious as I've played sims since Aces Over Europe and Flanker 1.0. I'm always interested in how planes fly versus what real life anecdotes say blah blah. I think you understand as you're here too. I really take interest in you noting the other p47 doesn't do well at altitude. I have a morbid curiousity about how DCS is modelling engine heat and stuff; though I know a new system is slated. I say morbid because on the other game when I found out that it was all timers on engines it really took a lot of joy of the game out for me. Regardless I have tried I can't really enjoy myself in it anymore; the career mode was a big draw to me but it's so soulless. I had a lot of fun; but DCS is so much better (if you can afford a comp and track or/hotas) I really like the new DM too right now. When I hit enemy planes and a jet of fire comes from it's engine/etc it looks and feels more right than before. I also really hosed a 190 in my p51 and its landing gear fell down (I have read a report where this happened too) and it rolled on its back and the pilot bailed out. It was quite photgenic How hard is it to fly compare to the mustang? Is it really busy or are you able to sort of 'forget' settings for combat etc? Fwiw sorry for being a d*ck vaguely in my post; today's been messed up irl but I shouldn't let it affect my posting. -
I know all about them historically etc. Better is definitely what was meant when you addressed it being the older warbird and the difference in graphics textures. Is it that bad? I don't think the p51 looks so bad..

Hello.. I don't own either. I do really like FW190s and have been eyeing the modules. I greatly prefer A-3/A-5 Anton's. I really do like Dora's better than 190 A8s. However when flying Dora's I always feel a lil 'cheap' knowing they were hardly ever prevalent or even close. Still my preference would make it seem open and shut. However Im well aware the D is a much older module so I'm asking the community.. Which module is better? I know both have pros but is it really someone's preference in plane? Are both cockpits or flight models equal enough that the newer release of the A8 doesn't matter? Or..? Thanks

Does anyone fly IL2 as well? Question on thoughts of p47 handling
sublime replied to sublime's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
So is it everyone's consensus then that the planes are similarly modelled? Is it that the other games plane faces more high powered opposition? (Though we have 109K and 190D anyways..) I don't really know what forum rule this really breaks; nor do I know why someone would point this out (like they want it closed? Why else say anything?) Then put a really interesting post about it anyways (it's like saying this is wrong; now here I'll try it) I don't think this breaks a rule or is trollish or anything of the sort. Im really interested because the P47 *does feel useless In the other game* and is one of the most disliked planes around. Yet here it doesn't seem near as hated and seems people get a lot more results. Im interested in why. Obviously I pointed out the altitude problem and other problems that playing games won't model that historically were there. Still there seems to be a lot more acceptance of the capabilities (and perhaps the plane is just more capable as modelled) in DCS. Of course Id love to hear anyone's thoughts too on which model is more accurate. I have to say as a P51 pilot (I don't have any other warbirds) the new damage model etc was the final nail in the coffin for me flying the other game. It has more flyable warbirds for me but can't really compete otherwise. There's things I think DCS still has to catch up on; but the differences in DCS' favor I've noticed make it almost impossible for me to play Il2 without looking at it with a jaundiced eye. -
I don't know but I wish this would be addressed. Also Id like to know if in the several months since I posted this if fire damage etc has been looked at. I did notice that the things I thought were extinguishers ( I knew this when I posted so it wasn't the culprit though; but newer guys may not know this ) - the black and yellow prominent things on the dash are actually fuel cut offs for fire apparently. The extinguishers as has been said are a different key. There's a couple other things I really want to know about. Like when are we going to get digital engine gauges that the B actually had.. will they ever make a 'JESTER - IFF command'. He reliably does call outs but when I played some of the more hectic dynamic campaigns with the F14 in chaotic situations or if you're TWS locking things quick you may miss or not get a 'friendly' call out. This can lead to friendly fire incidents.. obviously.

Does anyone fly IL2 as well? Question on thoughts of p47 handling
sublime replied to sublime's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I too find myself flying Il2 less and less and less. Dcs' warbirds have truly come a long way. Years ago when I first got the p51 there was like one or two German aircraft and that's it. The p51 totally felt out of place. Since the maps and assets etc... It's hard to fly IL2. I used to prefer it a lot more for ww2 but I think I prefer dcs now for ww2 as well especially as I'm mostly doing SP right now. And yes the p47 is a turd in Il2. I haven't flown the dcs p47 and I was curious how the model stacks to Il2; if there were similar issues. On the Il2 forums all the problems are basically blamed on the fact that video games don't show the huge numbers and strategic effects of war; that the fighting is at lower alts always etc. While this is definitely true I've wondered how much is also the flaws in the Il2 engine. Thanks for the answer.. I'd like to hear anymore thoughts or other people's answers. Oh also when I did fly the p47 in Il2 I'd link the throttle to turbo etc. Can you do that in DCS? Also o/t but you know the intercooler doors on the side 'waist' of the plane? What do you or others usually fly with those at? Half open? I'm clueless to their use and would leave em halfway as that'd seem to leave the skin flush with the doors as it were.. -
Operation Desert Thunder Campaign for the JF-17 Thunder
sublime replied to JonathanRL's topic in JF-17 Thunder
I helped him test some of the missions. The campaigns excellent - you guys won't be disappointed -
Hi guys. I don't own the 47. If you own Il2 you'll know the p47 is a total dog in that sim. I was wondering how well it handled in dcs - is the limitations in Il2 because planes in Sims are flown a historically at low alts etc or is it modelled poorly? Are you able to dogfight competitively below 25-30k feet? Etc

Wow so either the autopilot works without hitting nosewheel steering or I've never used the autopilot (LOL) I guess I thought I was and the airplane just was trimmed out

Has anyone successfully used lantirn in A/A?
sublime replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I think the person asked because LANTIRN *does* have an A-A mode. I never got it to work air to air even with a human pilot but I only briefly fussed with it. As you mentioned I never heard of it really being used that way; nevermind we had the pod for a reason and I needed to be looking for my actual ground targets.. -
That's what I'm a little concerned about. I just hope at least rocket and bomb splash damage and some things are looked at so hind aircrew aren't forced to go atgm or go home to be effective or competitive in many scenarios. Regardless I'm excited about the module. I hope I get to play it but I may not be around to do so for awhile some real life stuff depending

Dude brings a good point. The AAA is robotically accurate often and idk. I think a lot of people are gonna die a lot early on same as when they started flying a10s and people probably also thought an aerial battleship was a thing

Late to this discussion. I don't have knowledge first hand on the hinds but I don't doubt in field rearm. I say this because in at least two online interviews with Ah1 cobra pilots in Vietnam they mentioned during very hectic fighting (I think the two examples were hamburger hill and lam son). The crews had landed munitions at a prearranged spot nearer the fighting and would land and rearm themselves. This wasn't sop but it was done apparently

That'd be a rlly nice bone for us and would help us get a leg up on piloting her
