  1. I lived very close to Oceana NAS in the 90's and fondly remember f-16's sounding very similar to F-14's. They have a lower pitched "howl" at idle than the 18's... which makes sense, given the larger diameter compressor face on the 110's they really had some great airshows...
  2. You guys crack me up... The F-18C can land just fine on a carrier with a LITENING pod on its center line. The centerline fuel tank is much larger (27" diameter) than the LITENING pod (16" diameter), and they don't bang tanks on the decks...
  3. I'm gonna need some sauce on that? (link to video please?) :)
  4. Thank you very much for this response!!!
  5. I'd put $1000 on a bet that a modern F-14 would be far cheaper to maintain than an F-22. That artist concept is gorgeous. I love the single piece, F-16 / F-22 style canopy.
  6. I'd love this too.
  7. This!
  8. At 0:54, they touch tips :D Great video!!
  9. pretty good advice, aside from the trim. You should trim to fly on speed angle of attack... basically you should be able to release the stick and the flight path marker should be in the middle of the E bracket regardless of your speed. Then you use your throttle to adjust your glide slope.
  10. Bullseye is set by the mission creator and has nothing to do with the f-18 flight plan. It's just part of the mission file. AWACS will reference this bullseye regardless of what waypoints are programmed into any aircraft. Waypoints can be pre-loaded into aircraft by the mission editor (to save us the hassle and to simulate data being pre-loaded into aircrafT). The mission creator either sets a waypoint in the f-18 to coincide with bulls, or you have to manually create it when you get in your aircraft. You'd just look at the map. Find the coordinates for bulls, and add a waypoint. I hope that clarifies
  11. So sexy!
  12. Ze Germans had ALARMS in WW2! I couldn't resist...
  13. Basically. But it's already kind of "obsolete", since you can put the EW / RWR data onto the HUD.
  14. TDC slewing of the Maverick seeker will be addressed in the next patch... look for it to improve on the 19th of December. You might want to check the Mini Updates sticky thread.
  15. I found the fighter jock... ;)
  16. Not true at all. The range and loiter time with the addition of a cetner-line bag definitely increases, but the performance hit is greater than that of individual wing bags, given that they hold the same amount of fuel. Ferry ranges all increase with 3 bags compared to 2 under wings only... otherwise, they'd never carry 3 bags.
  17. Personally, against SA-15's, i prefer to fly at about 10,000 feet, then put them on the 3 or 9 o'clock when they fire and dive. This dumps the missile into the deck every time. Don't even need any "spoofs" for this... rinse and repeat until they're out of missiles or catch them reloading. Works against Tor's... never tried against a boat.
  18. LOL, you must be new here (joking). They push broken Hornet stuff to release from the OB on every patch. Might as well just switch to OB. You get all the same stuff, just earlier.
  19. I heard Chris Roberts is doing a go-fund-me for the DCS Superbug module... :P (a little Star-Citizen-is-never-coming-out humor for you)
  20. ... to get to the center of a Tarawa? I put 4 into it... wasn't enough... aggro'd the wife before more testing could be done. :pilotfly: Anyone sink a Tarawa with Mav's yet?
  21. You're viewing the display from a 2nd player on a multiplayer server, so the sync of the wings and things like flex won't be as "good" as if you were the one flying the aircraft.
  22. Obviously, it's optional... I think that goes without saying... but he/she was asking about updates, so I provided what I believe is the least complicated option to get those updates. You could try @openalpha and see what happens :)
  23. if you can navigate via the cmd prompt to your DCS folder, you can type the following to update to open beta: dcs_updater.exe update @openbeta
  24. If you have to push the nose down on final, you're not flying on speed angle of attack... that kind of hurts your credibility to assess the flight model :) Trim it to fly on speed and your landings will be so much easier. A quick tip is to not engage flaps and landing gear until you're at around ~180 kts... it'll be much easier to trim to fly on-speed angle of attack the closer you are to approach speed when you deploy flaps and gear.
