Best sustained turn speed is roughly 360 kts at sea level with 4x AIM-7 and 2x AIM-9 and full fuel... the more you weigh, the more this goes up. Your mileage may vary. There's a chart floating around, but I can't be bothered to search if you dont (I literally asked the same question). :)

Best practice guide on getting jester to lock BVR targets?
Banzaiib replied to Mr_sukebe's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
none of those help with getting jester to do his job of pointing the AWG-9, IFF'ing, and launching 54's. -
Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????
Banzaiib replied to gmelinite's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's actually very easy to see your airspeed in a turn fight... if you glance down, the clock position of the needle tells you the airspeed. If its vertical, you're either dead or at a good turn speed :) -
Thank you for the graph! That's exactly what I was looking for. It looks like around 300 kts (indicated) is the sweet spot when loaded with AIM-7's and 9's at 10,000 ft. At sea level, that's about 360kts indicated. I now have better targeted air speeds for dogfight training.

I know it varies by weight, but lets assume 2 sidewinders only, 1000 ft. elevation, and 8000 lbs of fuel. What would be the best sustained turn speed?

I very much enjoyed trying to absorb your history with the F-14... from the radar physics to the cover on the VSL switch... thank you very much for making this. I know it took a lot of time, but a lot less time than it took to learn it all IRL.

pull up your FCS page... it's pretty easy to see where your trim is set for all axes.

[WIP] Jester is just not doing his job in air to ait engagements
Banzaiib replied to BlueAngel's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, in the F-15 and F-18, you get elevation limits on the tdc to let you know precisely your scan height / volume, in the F-14 you just get the height limits at the maximum displayed range you have selected, but you do get the degree offset, which is nice... <insert meme> It's going to take time to get used to this... and maybe even some 123 quik mafs... You really need to get below your target to stop him from notching you when he's maneuvering, as the AWG-9 does not do well against ground clutter, and it has a HUGE doppler filter, so if he turns cold, he's gonna vanish from TWS and RWS. The F-15 doplar filter is like +/- 40 kts... the f-14 doppler filter is +/- 100 kts... (yes it is modeled in the F-15 in DCS). This (and JDAMs) is why I'd love to get the F-14D... i love the 14B hud, actually :), but i digress... -
I have a 970 also, and have been eyeballing a 2060... thanks for the heads up!! Seems like the best bang for the buck right now, and only about 10% lower FPS than a 2070 and very close to a 1080.

Tough transition from flying the DCS Hornet for 1,000+ hours :) Regarding expo curves on your pitch and roll axes mentioned previously... I highly recommend not putting much curve in. The reason is, you'll be more likely to break the plane in a high g maneuver. You really need the granular sensitivity around the middle of the stick throw, and you lose that in favor of better sensitivity around the center if you use a curve. Those curves also make getting accurate gun shots more difficult while pulling for the same reason... just my 2 cents, which is what it's worth.

And just like that my F14 career is over....
Banzaiib replied to Andysim212's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Bomb mode, trim it out, and try to stay focused on the tanker, not the basket. You'll get it. -
Stick way too forward obstructing the display
Banzaiib replied to TomCatMucDe's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Remove stick option is coming in a future update. -
How are the D/L freqs. assigned to the E-3C's and the boats in the mission? Are they specified in the mission editor?

The sidewinder is defaulting to a search mode. Turn that off... Review jabbers' aim-9 tutorial for info on that. Makes slewing the aim-9 super fast and VSL-HI locks very useful.

You're missing out. It's extremely rewarding to work as a team.

Lower the texture resolution to medium. It still looks great, but uses like 1/2 the memory.

Outstanding! Wow! Extremely well done, concise, and helpful. Thank you Jabbers!

Love his stuff. Great sense of humor!

Canopy Open? Check Hook Down? Check Fuel dump ON? Check Wings Folded? Check Ready for take off... blames ED...

You can blow $80 on a date, EASY, and spend less time together than you will just farting around with the F-14... i say buy the 2nd license (if you have the cash, of course)! And you can just loan it to friends later so they can get a taste of DCS if she doesn't like it... 100% worth it.

It's been a lot more difficult of late to hit tanks with anything in CCIP mode. Maybe it's more accurate simulation of the physics, maybe i suck at it, but when the '18 EA first started, it was really easy to dome-shot a t-72 with a mk-82... now, not so much. I'd suggest a MK-83, but even then, you're gonna have to direct hit it to 100% assure a kill in one shot. Not that you'd fire a HEAT round at another tank, but just to put it in perspective, a M1A1 HEAT round has about 25 lb of explosives in it... while the MK-82 has over 190 lb. and the MK-83 has 445 lb. of "go-boom". Unguided bombs are fricken huge in the scope of crap fired at tanks. That said, tanks tend to be well defended against lateral, high-explosive attacks, which why you have to hit them on top. To what extent this is all modeled in DCS, I have no idea.

Yes. That is a bug. Wags said it's fixed internally and will be in the next update. This is mentioned specifically in his mini-update regarding "Ghost Contacts" on the SA page.

I can't get NCTR to work...
-
So we either will see AWACS D/L or other F-14's... but not both at the same time... got it. Thank you for the clarification.
-
Pardon my ignorance, but that means the AWACS in DCS will contribute to the Link 4A? In other words, I'll be able to see tracks created by both other F-14's and E-2's in a multiplayer server?
