What is the cost difference to a 2080 where you guys are?? The 2080 is about the same performance as a 1080Ti and a tad more future proof, shame about the 8GB VRAM. Albeit "maybe" with some early teething issues. For me I'd wait let the dust and price settle. The price might even drop on 2080Ti 's. I went from a 980Ti to a 1080Ti, and roughly a 980Ti is about equal to a 1070(Ti) depending,.. I think it's best to get a decent GPU upgrade that will likely last longer. YMMV,. :D

An SSD will certainly improve loading times including anything that may need to be loaded post startup of a mission (or MP) however any increase in FPS during game play is unlikely unless you have other areas of system performance that may benefit from an SSD, maybe pagefile read/writ if system memory is low or just reading stuff from SSD/HDD for transfer to GPU if it's VRAM capacity is low. However that may not be a significant improvement in FPS, although DCS may feel a little smother overall. FPS is more to do with the CPU and GPU number crunching capacity of your machine and having enough RAM and VRAM as well as tuning settings. In use DCS/OS drive usage. Okay having said that, the overall performance boost adding an SSD as a system drive gives, is IMO significant and worth it. Without knowing anymore details of your system build it is difficult to gauge what improvement you might expect to get for DCS in VR. :)

@Muybonito523 DX11 error I have seen other logs including mine also point to DX11 errors recently so maybe something has changed. @ST0RM Still pointing to DX11 by the looks. Looking at the other threads I guess there may be a problem, some are suggesting it could be the nVidia driver but not so sure, I also started to have crashes intermittently starting with the update 2 updates ago, haven't crashed yet on 2.5.3.23954. Also in VR here as well and I see in the notifications there seems to have been an update recently. OP is using trackview so maybe unrelated. Oddly 2 of the crashes resulted in a WIN 10 BSOD complaining about a watchdog timer error. @OP maybe DX11 as well?? seems DCS started to exit after thsi,.. As I said I have recently started to experience the odd crash which is unusual generally DCS in SP has been rock stable,...MP mostly stable. :(

I rarely see this on SP but do get it occasionally on MP can be anywhere on map (MP Caucasus map) it doesn't seem to stop me doing anything in game when it happens, actually it looks cool and dark in a surreal way. :D

Upgrading from Intel 3930K to 9900K. Worth it?
FragBum replied to obious's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'll see what I can find but my experience going from 32GB and sod all virtual memory usage to 64GB and still sod all virtual memory usage. Having said that DCS now has a fairly good memory management regime and I have to try hard to get DCS to use much more then 10 or so GB of ram. @OP I would look at graphics card the 680 might be a tad limiting 16GB should be usable for basic missions without much else running maybe see how you go before adding more ram. YMMV  <edit> Not much to see here and not much different from 32GB RAM. -
Okay I made a similar observation but for me it was the Tuesday patch of the previous version, it gets a little more complicated as I updated to that version then rolled back because of VR issues, long story short updated to previous version again and even now the current version DCS 2.5.3.23788OB and a quick check of system stats and it all seems about the same CPU GPU and memory usage but RIft VR seems better and my system settings have not changed. Yet I do not see any mention of changes so whilst DCS seems to be running better it just feels and looks better. As for spotting aircraft I have no problems with a few Kilometres but that is about it for me in VR.

As an observation those results are indicative to what I get in my tests although I fly mostly Gaz low and fast within Las Vegas on NTTR* map and Caucasus map in built up areas in VR so DCS has many objects, buildings etc to manipulate and render. I think it's fair to say DCS's memory management has really improved over early 2.5.x releases and even looking at it now it's foot print seems to sit below 10GB which with windows etc is kinda pushing 16GB systems. I have run with and with out pagefile and for me there really isn't much difference so I just let Windows do it's thing. I also think maybe DCS could be more adaptive to systems with more RAM and VRAM for example if I jump onto a MP server I get to use pretty much 10.something GB of VRAM wheres DCS only uses about 6GB in single player. Win10Pro, 64GB DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB i75930@4.7Ghz. * Another observation, I find the NTTR map to be by far the best performance over the other maps.

Im not sure I understand the question is there a problem with a post or something else? -

FragBum replied to lazduc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
GPU should be okay I went from 980ti to 1080ti no problems but I think the CPU will cause a problem. Might be best to go through the DRM process to eliminate any chance of problems and yes that process needs to be streamlined a lot. how -
Are you sure that is metal?? Besides just see if you can replace the part. So how many hours did you get from that? :D

If pilot/co-pilot which ever occupies first should control, it flies so well from LHS,..:D

MS FFB2 hall sensor mod, which sensors and setup?
FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you can use at least 2/3 or so of travel and keep a good mechanical advantage they are fairly light in the first detent position of the regulator probably enough for cyclic if the design is correct. -

FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks good to know, mine just stays put when you remove force from it. Here's what I'm looking at, bottom picture is the prototype cyclic and hence why I'm looking for bigger/better dampers. Adjustable would be great, I use these "type" for the cyclic and will also for torque pedals. I currently use this type illustrative only, for my collective, they are adjustable as well. -

Heck yeah, besides you need a GPU that works, right. -

FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Curious what are those dampers from and are they readily available? I'm looking for alternatives for my next cyclic build currently looking at the 10 scale RC dampers (without the spring) which will be a little larger than the ones I am currently using. Also interested in how you find using the dampers only as opposed to FFB. I have been using dampers with no center detent for some time now and I could't go back to a joystick for helicopters. Nice to see this sort of build stuff going on. -

FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So this is obviously worse than your previous 1080Ti cards performance, this would seem to indicate the graphics adapter maybe? -
The same thing happens in all the helis currently so it seems to be a bug.

Okay have you tried lowing your OC settings incase it's a buss speed/memory speed issue? Also try defaulting the graphics setting in nVidia control panel. As you seem to be getting the artefacts even on your windows screen it might be a clock problem. -
likely the same reason as the slightly odd building names and the logos on cars and trucks, reduces law suites I guess. :D

FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Go back to my previous post and have a look at the video it seriously is what I see in VR yes albeit with some aliasing artefacts and of course some ASW artefacts but nothing like your getting even on a 2K screen. As has been suggested if you can find someone that can swap out the GPU and test that might prove one way or another. What was your previous GPU can you drop that in and compare, even a 980Ti should be okay for the menu screen and if yuou drop your setings should be okay the compare in VR on DCS. -
Gazelle great for diving off builgings, flying down with the traffic etc.:D Mi-8 also pretty good value so to the Huey, the boulevard takes about 4 to 5 minutes as a casual flight. If you haven't already flown a heli it might take a tad.longer initially. ;)

1080TI S Odyssey/ Shimmering/jagged mess
FragBum replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Actually the youtube clip wasn't too bad although it is difficult to compare. My screen display looks pretty good I still get some shimmering but mostly it's the edges of the graphics that has like a moving pattern that varies depending on the angle of the objects. Interesting with Rift I see the effect in Rift but not on the screen hence it doesn't get recorded. But with MSAA @4 and PD @1.2 it not so bad increasing PD not only impacts on GPU usage but actually increases the artefacts Moire patterns like moire and the jagged edges patterning on objects. I think it might be DCS if it's not so bad with other titles, DCS has some work to get VR as good as even the Rift Home which looks pretty good. Sometime pushing settings which can make your results worse! Unfortunately it's difficult to directly compare oranges to apples but in Rift it looks almost like it does in the video, trees mostly can have some edge effects (which become worse if I increase PD*). More is not always better! example of image quality What you don't see in the video is the artefacts from ASW on things like buildings as it's not recorded, again those artefacts get worse if I push settings it kinda a compromise I guess until we get 20Ghz CPU's and nVidia 5080Ti's. Have you forced DCS to regenerate it's render files this can have an impact and might be worth a try. Rename or delete the metashaders and FXO folders in C:\users\your account\saved games\dcsworld_version\... Check this out Also as Headwarp points out after certain patches VR it seems rendering can change, in fact and I know there is no mention of it but the latest OB seems to have improved VR quality. -

Have you tried to re-seat the graphics card as well as power cables? Seriously though if it doesn't work on a monitor it's got to have some issues. RMA the card and start again this one sounds DOA. Sorry. -
Belly landing in field grass showing through wings
FragBum replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I know right,.. :megalol: Even in the NTTR map you can't land on the airliners at the airport you just sink right through them, don't even consider jet wash at the moment, waiting for the F-14 here. :D I'm guessing it's not a priority for ED currently, fortunately as there is so much important stuff currently like the Mi-24 (waiting patiently here ;) ) so it may take a while to resolve. In the mean time as others have said, don't crash and it's all good right.
